They basically expect to not pay you for the time you spend trying to get clocked in/ready. If they want me to start production at 8, then they need to pay for setup time prior to production, so I have time to get the systems on

i am familiar with the problem you describe from my own employer. while i enjoy ridiculous amounts of liberty, our callcenter work slaves are ... not being paid for shift setup/spindown times. while to me that unpaid 30min a day is irrelevant, at their salaries it matters. and i dont have any leverage to change it. 🙁
