One more tip for everyday use, when talking about someone you know you might want to use "kennis" instead of "vriend". Idk if that's the case everywhere but in some places saing "mijn vriend" can be interpreted as talking about your boyfriend, "mijn vriendin" girlfriend.

Afaik "vriend(in) van me" doesn't have the same connotations.
