Someone mentioned they wish more companies would back Linux, but I don’t fully agree with that, at least not in the way most people mean it. You don’t need a bunch of big corporations taking over Linux. What really drives it forward is the community, the open source developers, coders, and everyday users who tweak, fix bugs, and improve things from the ground up. That freedom to see and modify the code is what makes Linux special.

What Linux actually needs more of is developers, not just corporate backing. That said, I do think it’s great when companies want to fund or support specific projects, like GNOME, KDE, or other desktop environments, so they can pay their dev teams and keep things running smoothly. That helps push out updates, add new features, and maintain both stable and testing (unstable) branches, which benefits everyone in the long run.

The key difference is funding without control. Once companies start demanding things in return, like user data, telemetry, or tight restrictions, you end up with the same issues people try to escape by moving to Linux in the first place.

Open source is important because it keeps everything transparent and in the hands of the people. And honestly, Linux is improving every day. More people just need to use it, support it, and contribute however they can.

Yep, dual booting is a solid plan 'cause you always need Windows for drivers and some software, which is fine, you get used to it. I wouldn't start with Arch Linux, I'd go with Mint or Debian, leaning towards Debian. If you want a Mac vibe, go with the GNOME environment, and for Windows, you'd want KDE or Cinnamon. I definitely wouldn't recommend Arch for your first time, or even your last, it's just too much hassle. You want something stable, and that's another thing to use, stable versions.
