Ever since the corvette update I've been unable to enter or even fly over another player's corvette without it disappearing and my character sometimes getting stuck inside the invisible walls. Does anyone else have this problem, or know of a fix? I've never used mods/cheats so I don't think there's anything wrong with my save file
What is the easiest way for a new player to get a corvette? I'm pretty new, and maybe I should be working on something else first, but eventually I'd like to get one.
I think I missed the corvette expedition since I just started a couple of days ago.
I think there is a way to find modules for it in the open world, but not exactly sure how.
salvageable scrap is the best way to gather them

I’m not sure if salvage scrap for corvettes appears before you build your first one by buying basic parts off the corvette computer.
If you're looking for Salvageable scrap yes turn off multiplayer and find a planet or moon that has it, land, and see if resources says abundant in the analysis visor on planet for the best results
Salvageable scrap doesn't often re spawn if it does it might be weeks in my experience

Also, it is infinitely easier after you build your first basic corvette.
Get a basic box with wings built. Fly to scrap planet.
Get out of seat, visor scan, highlight scrap. Fly over, shoot the scrap, the aoe damage from default gun will go deep enough.

No the upgrade allows you to find Electromagnetic and other gas and mineral deposits

Suggest only farming exclusive loot on small moons. The tight geography forces loot points together. Making it very rare not to see multiple loot points in the visor at once.

The Arcadia wings are pretty big and cover an entire Hab side; you could use that at a starting point to build out wings with other parts and using offset glitches. we have pinned videos offset glitches for that in this channel

ive had to use the slope pieces to make wings, I've also seen others use the "rim" pieces to make parts of a wing

Take off the engine cover and place pill lights along the hab right where the window connects to it. So you don't see them. Then replace your engine cover. That should illuminate through the end
Or you can use one of those lab lights. The oscillator. Remove the fuel cover and attach that light in a way where it barely pokes out the fuel cover when you replace it.
Can use like a tall box or something to mount the light on temporarily

What happens to a Corvette if you upgrade it fill its inventory with mods the modify the corvette giving it a ton of mod peices the overflow the technology slots?

This is a n easy way to unlock all slots for free. But you are still bound by the slot max of class level and 60 slot max tech slots of ships.

No. Nothing disappears but no new tech parts added on to the Corvette will go in tech slots .
Have to free up room for that. But once room is freed up they will show up in tech automatically

You get more parts by digging up salvageable scrap on planets, for what parts you need, we can’t really help you without seeing the ship, and even then it’s probably better to just get a few of each part and see if it’s enough
You could also turn on free crafting in the settings, that way you don’t have to find the parts, you can just start building
the truck from star trucker and also maybe a trailer to go with it, or a 379 pete from american truck sim

I have 12 thrusters on my ship, and only 10 light up. Is there a wayt o make the other 2 appear lit up (even if not functional), some way to apply an effect?
Depending on what style of Thruster you use there is hard animation limit of 14 from what i've seen; going over that requires you to use mods which people in #nms-modding can help with

I was wondering if tehre as an object that I can place in the dead thrusters to give the illusion of life?
try looking at pill lights in base decoration or use the wonder projector but that means applying either option on the ground near your base or away from a space station so you can access the normal base build menu .
as a fyi there is also a hard light limit for Space stations so if you have too many lights on a corvette it will literally turn off station lights

I'm really starting to like my second fishing boat corvette I made , it's slightly larger then the smaller first one ( really like that one as well ).
It might be the windows near the bow of the ship and the elevated tower with the cockpit and full 360 degrees viewing.

If you're looking for large rooms in corvette there is a way to do it yourself. By basically making your Corvette an eggshell with a hollow center.
You can translate what's in the video to a long build or any shape you would want to make for your interior

I saw one person do it that was the equivalent of three habs wide and two long.
Or you can do this and create a small City on your Star destroyer
Then there's the really skilled Blender builders who build 1:1 ships with realistic interiors

I mean theoretically many of these craft would not be able to travel through space adequately. And coming close to a planet would be impossible by any basis of real world physics

the only trails I find attractive are blue (yes, the original blue), yellow, and green
That seems like an unnecessary number of trails, you can achieve full adjacency for Polo with just 2 trails, anything beyond that will have limited effect. Here's a screenshot of my tech inventory, maybe it'll help get higher numbers?

Are you sure he actually benefits from adjacency? I didn't see any improvements. Sure, the squares light up but what matters is results

Did you know you can access more colors by painting a decor object (in corvette building mode) and then clicking the button to apply the color to everything? It'll spread those brighter colors onto the corvette parts too.

I could use that extra slot to put in the infraknife three bullet thing
Hopefully that'll be possible eventually. For now I just gave up and went with the photon cannon to save on tech slots. It's good enough to kill most things in less than 3 seconds anyway.
infraknife is my preferred weapon for salvage hunting
and I'm going the phase beam route while it's still possible
The cyclotron ballista is pretty great for salvage, because its blast is so big. But its' not like it makes a big difference. Most of the effort is going to the spots, not aiming and shooting. It can help with some salvage that ends up particularly deep though.

For some reason rocket launcher projectiles just despawn when they hit trees

I've found the infraknife works a little better than the photon cannon
as in some cases where the photon cannon doesn't reach, the infraknife does
(I mean for buried salvage container)
If the salvage container is under planet bedrock nothing will reach it

and even sometimes it's in an underground cavern, and still can't be shot from air
oh yeah i've had that happen; the only way you can get any of those containers stuck in bedrock is if the center is out of bedrock even partially and you have a weapon on your MT like a neutron cvannon

I've done a lot of salvage hunting. It's one of my favorite time wasters
and there are definitely containers the photon cannon won't reach but the infraknife will
I can grab salvage in roughly 1/3 the time using the infraknife over the cyclotron ballista
and the cyclotron ballista tends to hit everything except the salvage container so I tend to clog my inventory with weird, non-salvage stuff more quickly
I'm tempted to drop a shield module so I can add that infraknife three bullet module as that significantly improves salvage aquisition time
I just keep a base positron on my ship exclusively for aerial farming. 2 taps and there's nothing left to collect. Like the only thing it's good for and you don't need bonus tech for it
When I'm not farming I package it and store it on ship. Replace it with trail

Only so many of each type of animation can show up on a corvette. It's an intentional limit of the game. I think there's mods to increase it if you really want to and you're on pc

Keep in mind that the speedometer is massively incorrect (keeps visibly increasing past cap), and true max speed is reached easily with basic upgrades
It'd seem that their true speed doesn't exceed 260u/s, though I gotta retest with A-Class thrusters they'll either be the same speed or have some override to be slower or something

Most things don't have a "higher class" version of them, besides thrusters in which the huge ones are A-Class
the individual modules do not have variable class though

Honestly I don't have that information. I'm reasonably sure that weapons and engines have separate pools, so those shouldn't interfere. The one engine and the "wing" piece that have a little grill with fire on top will take up spaces from rockhopper fans, I can't remember if landing thrusters will as well. As for the aeron parts I have no idea at all. In any case you'll have to remove parts with effects on them to get any more to work

Hey, I wonder if someone could give me some building suggestions.
My Corvette is functional and for all performance reasons pretty neat and well-fitted, the glasses give good visibility, and I really like the ambassador engine, specially the big ones. I also like the Ambassador cockpit, but it feels hard to make it look good on the outside and match with other pieces.
I want to make my build look more streamlined, and also bigger to accommodate more stuff and inside area, shield generators, more engines, maybe a 360º viewing room, while having a short path without stairs in the way from the landing area to the cockpit

Uhhh I have a few ideas for the ambassador cockpit personally i think it looks best at the front like it is or at the top hanging similar to a venator cockpit I guess for the bigger I like the front I recommend bulking up the back and adding more length

Nope it’s just very good for shield the splice is like most 2 length blocks that aren’t cabs or connectors you can fairly easily fuse another reactor into its two long imprint

You landed a little too hard and broke it.
All 4 of my rockhoppers always work on my mini and I don't know what I did to make that happen.

At a guess I'd say thruster count, but I don't know

Doing an alternate variant of my Eclipse Cruiser. Using a twin "bridge" design like on a Venator. I think it looks pretty neat. Might have to use that bridge on more designs.
I find the Ambassador to be the best clean looking, interior-wise. No metal structure obfuscating your view. But outside it looks pretty ugly for most cases

Don't think so, corvettes are tied to player and anyone other than the owner can't edit them (unless I'm wrong, but this shouldn't be the case)
The only thing other players can edit on a corvette is decorations, if the owners permissions allow for it

45° is a bit trickier. You either have to free place a window exactly or set up the circle build framework and build off that.

Not normally. I've never had it happen unless I deleted something that was making contact with decor. That can cause it to delete whatever decor is touching it

yes, it's a two step process... the pinned video: "Offset Habs by half a space" shows how
in short you use a hull attachment to offset a half space, but that actually offsets 2 half steps, so you have to use a rockhopper propeller or fin module to reset its fore or aft position

there is a slight state difference, and the order you place them affects the stats

Your 'storage bins'? They can 'access' it I think, but it shows their own inventory (not yours). There does not seem to be any way to for them to access any of your items (not 100% sure if hiding stuff in refineries or nutirtion things can be shared or not, but when I try to access them on other people's ships, I cannot). Also, can't steal a corvette 😛
No, they can't. You can also disable this for refiners in network settings

Saw your comment in questions. Try this with your stairs. Decorative barricades at an angel meshed into the handrails. Keeps you from falling off the sides and reduces the size of the hole at the top. Keeping you from falling through as much.

My newest corvette. Still working on maximizing my stats, I have to open up the last row of tech. What I like about this build is its overall simplicity. There's only 4 pieces per side, 3 wings and one booster, yet because of their large footprint yet separate snap points the manage to meld together nicely to give an almost made look. Everything else is inline. 6 reactors, 2 shields, 3 photon cannon, 3 boosters, 2 habs, 2 walkways 1 cockpit.

landing pads do work, and youll even get traders landing on it, but the ships dont come with when youre flying they just stay where they stopped and landed

You can build them right away, but basic parts are quite expensive (you can also find random ones on certain planets). They are mostly late early game. Just keep playing and the game will tell you about them

You're looking at about 7 to 8 million for your first Corvette if you purchase all the parts. It's really in your best interest to do heavy farming of salvage scrap. You're not only collect a lot of parts you can use but you'll make millions of units selling the parts you don't need.
I always suggest finding a nice small moon with salvage scrap. The tight geography forces loot points to spawn much closer together. The larger the planet the larger the distance between loot
I had a system with 4 planets that had scrap. That way, if you got bored of one color and type of landscape, you could try the next planet.

So thsi is my latest - just getting teh principles right - I am playing in Permadeath mode so not got as many parts as I woudl liek. The intention is to essentially have a corvette with all of my storage - so has to be big enough to hold 9 stores, refiner, food processor, etc ...
Pretty good work! You have mastered the basic techniques of building, which is all you really need to make good looking corvettes. I love how well the first squadron goes together visually. It makes it appear you are all from the same fleet/planet/whatever...

@terse kestrel It may be confirmation bias on my part but have you noticed corvettes are more maneuverable when you build them with parts intended to be used together? I've gotten surprisingly good numbers without upgrades even with engines that only boost maneuverability in the 2%-4% range. 🤔

Hidden theme bonuses would be crazy
Oh good! It's not just me! I first noticed what may be hidden bonuses when I attempted to build a corvette out of Arcardia parts then I noticed how other parts had the same contours. So, I added those... by the time I was done the corvette had 3k maneuverability.
But in line with HG and their hidden factors they don't directly tell us
She is! That's why I'm thinking of a third build to downsize it. The Very Confused Yellow Submarine uses a lot of pieces with the same contours...

I think the slopes are a clue but I don't know how much same contours boost vs same theme boost. That's assuming what I've noticed is correct. Don't need to spread misinformation. It'll need a lot of testing.
Why don't we all test builds using one corvette each? That way the supercharged tech slots will remain consistent with each tester. With more people, we'll have a better pool of data, and be able to prove or disprove my conjecture that there are hidden bonuses.

This my test corvette, The Spirit of Conjecture. She has 2 Landing Gear, 3 Ambassador Class Habs, a Titan Class Cockpit, a Thunderbird Class Landing Bay, 2 Arcadia Haeavy Boosters, 2 Twin Echo Jets, 3 Phase Beams, 3 Infa-Knives, a Medusa Reactor, 2 Rockhopper Wings, and 2 Hardframe Diffusers. She's been intentionally built to have no apparent theme.
As you can tell, Spirit has a pretty good array of supercharged slots and decent starting stats

You need to strip it down to the most basic modules so you keep the valuable ones, then trade it with a NPC for a starship, and then scrap that

@terse kestrel I found our first confirmation that we're on to something with this hidden bonuses business. I switched out the cockpit and the landing bay to match the Ambassador Class Habs. This should have only increased boost by 1%. Yet, maneuverability increased too.
The Spirit of Conjecture went from 1449.8 to 1501.6, an improvement of 51.8 or 03.6%.
I then switched out the 2 Arcadia Heavy Boosters for Ambassador Heavy Boosters. I kept the Twin Echo Jets. I followed build order and the expected improvement was 6%. The Spirit maneuverability improved to 1522.5 or only 1.4%, much less than the expected 6%.
Is there a way to get Autopilot on the Corvette to cruise at higher speeds than 32u/s (which is my maximum I get right now).
Set auto pilot when at higher speeds maybe; the highest i've been able to set it at is 39u/s

On ruined planets you find memory stones that give you pieces of ancient ruins that you can build. As decoration. 12 in total
Like any other decoration you can place them on your Corvette.
And when it comes down to it decorations load softer and easier than Corvette pieces. So you can have a small Corvette under 50 pieces with a bunch of decorations building it up
My next design. Smaller build with an open interior. I have no idea how well this will work because I'm trying to severly limit my usage of habs as well.

@raven rover not patched. They did take away the method to use your base computer to build on your corvette. But the method of using the second terminal to remove parts you don't want that are essential still remains.
The base computer method was extremely unstable and corrupting saves. One of the few times they've taken a glitch method away but it was justified

Your Corvette has to be parked in the first pad. When you go up to the terminal make sure you select the purchase options twice.
After getting into the purchase screen back out once and select the option to build a corvette. That will allow you to edit the first pad
If your access ramp closed just save and reload a restore point. If you can't access the open button from outside

It costs 75k nanites to bring a Corvette from C-Class to s-class. And this can be dealt with by unlocking pirate stations and using their Tech packets to flip units to nanites easily

The only Corvette design i copied was BigDame420's Crab Sonosheee from the movie Redline and my build is based off his reddit post of three images with my own customization and not a video; I've already redone it 2 more times because i didn't get the centering and front placement right and if i can get a better SC slot roll on my main save i might redo it a 5th time but just on that save
the angled wing would not spark joy to try and build at this moment
but I could do a flat wing version. (minus the upside down reactors...)

Not really since you have the Shield modules besides the main shield / upgrades that also boost.
I could see using all three if you're going minimal guns but kind of overkill if you're not to have three separate shield systems.
It makes you have to balance your own ship for what you want to do

What you get out of a scrap container is completely random. And there's never been any suggestion that system parameters alter drop rates or rarity.
Like if two people are doing multiplayer and they loot the same scrap point they'll both get different loot. Like looting a derelict freighter or other group activities

One of the things I have always done when building a corvette is to imply it's a 2 person ship. 2 crew berths, 2 storage lockers etc. But until this build i have never provided a proper station. What seems to be missing in the build inventory is some type of comm device. Also wish I could put a system in my wonders. The front wonder display would be a system and right side one a planet in that system.

You can bring any size Corvette into the anomaly. But you don't want to do it if going far beyond the 100 piece Corvette part limit. Mainly because Corvette pieces take longer to load and lagging out players around you when you start having too many.
The Corvette in this video was pretty much all Corvette pieces. Several hundred of them. And you see what it did to my game
In contrast you want to try and use as many decorations as possible to increase the size of your corvette. Without having to actually use Corvette pieces. They are softer loading and don't lag your system or those around you.
Picking away at this corvette-sized corvette design. Main problem is I can't see well out the cockpit. Big ass gun blocking 75% of the view. Other than that, she's coming along well.

That's what you're wanting to build I would suggest getting blender and learning that if you have not before. That will allow you to scale up all the decorations you have properly. Creating the massive ship you want

If you look at this ship you can see that it's exterior is flat wall panels. Using those scaled up with blender go a long ways in creating big ships
It always makes me laugh when I try to build a smaller design, realize there's too much I want to add, get frustrated, then just build big again.
I can see how that's beneficial. Not having seems or blocks jutting out in weird ways does help. Though I have zero knowledge on Blender. Never used it before. Is it easy to scale items up? How do you make sure when placing the part on, it attaches in the right area?
Suggest asking there. They'll be able to give you full tutorials on how to use it for Corvettes and bases. I know of it. And know how it generally works. But do not use it myself
Most people I've seen start using it usually get the hang of it within a few days. And start making some really good looking Corvettes after that

Really it's what you're looking for out of your corvette.
Also if you utilize offsetting, rotating and angling your habs 90° you can put a ton of tech in a small area. Maximizing your stats without having everything spread out.

Well you do want to follow adjacency bonuses of course. And things like your boosters mix with your pulse drive. Zenith mix with your warp and so forth. Weapons mix with their Tech.
As far as your supercharged slots that's pretty much personal preference.

Rearrange your boosters and pulse Tech like this. C1-3 are your boosters from strongest to weakest
Same with your Tech upgrades. 1-3 from strongest to weakest
ill have to have a play around later
I use this for most of my tech anymore. If you're not looking for pure min/maxing this is an easy way to build your Tech setups with little work

Not everyone has easy access to the Photonix core but it's nice because it stacks. It's not the most powerful of modules but well worth a slot
Nice. Easy 600 out of that little change. If you use that optimizer tool I linked above it will help with your other tech. And you can incorporate your fourth SC slot if you want. It will give you the proper setup to make that work. Giving you even more maneuverability

@terse kestrel The experiments are giving some interesting results. Not only did the maneuverability bonuses go down when I added ambassador sublight boosters, the numbers changed according how I arranged them on my test corvette. Having the sublight engines in front was superior to having them in back. This is starting to be far more complex than I had imagined. 🤔
Yeah boosters will change stats based on placement. And it's something else no body has quite figured out what factors it bases those changes on

So... what may be hidden bonuses/penalties could be affected by theme, placement, contour, height and width. JEEBUS. That's a lot of factors in addition to the listed bonuses. lol

i noticed that when i built one of mine that had some boosters up front as well. youll notice the same with those aux parts like the vents and fuel rods as well. they seem to add more maneuverability toward the front
It could be because at the front those engines are near the cockpit; We know that the cockpit works with the Medusa Reactors and have adjacency bonuses besides improving maneuverability so my thinking would be that maybe being near the cockpit provides a small unknown bonus to maneuverability.
Even putting non aerodynamic parts affects maneuverability during building; putting the Arcadia wings on a build can drag maneuverability down by 2-4 points
Good points! I think it's going take a lot of messing around, writing down numbers, and server participation to figure out what the exact bonuses are. For now, I'll just be happy to determine some general principles about hidden bonuses/penalties so I can write something up for a possible FAQ

well yeah because you used the photomdoe left click; if you use steam use F12 and also changing your Anti aliasing Setting away from TAA would help a LOT

I dunno how mac's work really, but for me, I use prt scrn to take a screenshot, rather than use the Steam screenshot or in-game screenshot functions

Here's my Crab Sonoshee Corvette in Higher res PNG; I have a AMD GPU so I set my Anti Aliasing set to FSR Native in settings and then turned on Steam High res screenshots for PNG and then used f12 when in NMS photomode to take this
something about steam/NMS prevents me from taking my usual screenshots. It's a PITA

you need to do some glitches for a proper circle but they arent too hard
once you have enough for the bare minimum make a corvette with that and hunt for scrap
How long would you say should be planned to get enough parts to build a corvette, let's say with 10 ambassador hab mods >.>;;;;;;;
If you have a Corvette already and know how to find Salavageable scrap planets / moons then i would think it would take you maybe a hour or two to get a lot of general corvette modules..
If you're hunting for one specific hab it'd take you longer and you might be better off doing a two hour run of getting corvette parts and then trade modules at the space station for more of that hab module that you do want; don't forget you can use q and e on PC to raise and lower the amount you want when trading at the Corvette Terminal
@terse kestrel I replaced the habs, cockpit, and landing pads with the titan themed ones and left the engines the same. The maneuverability should not have changed.
Instead, it dropped 11 points to 1513.5. Who knew what cockpit, habs, and landing bay you used with your engines mattered? I haven't even touched upon matching and mismatching wings, cowlings, etc... yet.
We're talking about the most basic parts a player uses in building a corvette having an impact on maneuverability. This is a deep rabbit hole indeed.
Yet, I have to wonder if this information is of much use/interest to anyone but a few min/maxers. Is it even worth a FAQ or should I drop the question and let builders discover this stuff on their own? I'm torn.

Of all those listed, only habs do not affect stats aside from hold storage. The tooltip even says so
Salvagable scrap planets. Find a good one and start walking
or get units and buy basic parts at a station for a starter corvette

Those be very expensive and very limited tho
that's why i said for a starter corvette which means you can get a basic corvette setup and then use the corvette method to get parts instead of walking on a planet
Those changes are from how you arranged the pieces in the grid, not where you put them on the ship
I use a program called gyazo. Uses keyboard shortcuts, and may be able to fix your screnshot issue

I can't get screenshots for a good while, but it's to do with adjacency bonuses
Notice how the heavy Ambassador boosters are in different positions each time? For reliable data you need to make sure they're in the same position and give the same bonuses every time
that is because of seeds, sometimes an engine will give more maneuverability in another system

Base numbers go up. So all your percentage boosts from tech increase as well
Sounds like you got a bad roll if you didn't see a change.
Sc = supercharged
For each level there's a potential maximum and minimum for base stats. And they overlap. So if you get a really good role on base stats for C class and a bad roll on B class you may actually lose some

It's nothing to really concern yourself with until you upgrade to S class. If you don't notice a significant improvement from A class to S class you want to reload your game and upgrade it again

Only functional pieces are on the first page. The other two pages on the Corvette menu are cosmetics
You will notice slide stat changes based on certain parts you place or where you place them. But as far as the parameters for why those changes take place nobody really knows
But they are such small variances that you really don't have much to be concerned about in that regard
I assume getting another Photon Cannon Array will increase the damage potential? orrrr just cosmetic at that point? 😄
Up to three well increase stats, any more is cosmetic
Three boosters total. Three of any kind of reactor. Three of any kind of weapon. Three of any type of landing gear.
2nd photon array took it from 156.5 to 158.4 lol
