cursive sentinel
elder wind

We prob won't see this game until 2026-2027

vagrant magnet
timber dust
elder wind
#

it seems very ambitious.

elder path
timber dust
#

Just hopeful speculation

glad condor
elder path
#

Destroying bases and killing tames is something I don't want to see

cursive sentinel
#

I mean we could very well have arena fights, has anyone here read Erebos?

vagrant magnet
#

So you have to choose to let your base be vulnerable.

elder wind
#

@elder path I think it would be great if you could put a guild together, and explore together (no mans sky), complete quest objectives (aka world of warcraft), complete puzzles (zelda), and have some type of guild war in 'war zones' (division).

sand wasp
#

so far HG is yet to make a game like other people do, this will likely be the same, I'd temper my MMO cliche expectations

cursive sentinel
#

HG is the niche

glad condor
#

Probably just have a pvp toggle button

#

Like nms

vagrant magnet
glad condor
#

What's wrong with a world war

#

Oh

#

Now I see it

cursive sentinel
#

@elder wind is there anything you can send me to look at?

vagrant magnet
#

Also a decade of Minecraft server experience has taught me people usually follow patterns in these games.

elder wind
#

@cursive sentinel are you a board gamer?

cursive sentinel
sand wasp
#

thats presuming the ability for them to do so will be available

elder wind
#

haha, okay I will send you some images.

sand wasp
#

Why?

glad condor
#

Because flying dragons in a fantasy war

timber dust
vagrant magnet
#

Essentially if PvP is allowed, it'll be for clan vs. clan/ect., but otherwise you only have to worry about the elements/beasts.

sand wasp
#

There are literally dozens of survival games with clans locking down areas

#

HG doesnt follow trends, they set them

glad condor
#

Yeah but none as big as this

cursive sentinel
#

HG is an indie studio lol

vagrant magnet
cursive sentinel
#

It doesnt have to be this way

glad condor
#

Yes it does

#

It will eventually

digital monolith
#

I don't get it, will LNF have same multiplayer scheme as NMS?

vagrant magnet
#

Even if PvP doesn't exist, people will inevitably form huge groups to try and take over the land.

cursive sentinel
#

WE DONT KNOW, EVERYTHING IS SPECULATION

vagrant magnet
#

Something Awful's Goon Squad is infamous for doing this in EVERY SINGLE GAME.

glad condor
vagrant magnet
#

It's just human nature to form into big groups and try to tame the land.

brittle brook
#

if its anything like NMS there will be an option to disable PVP

#

and multiplayer

glad condor
#

Yeah

cursive sentinel
sand wasp
vagrant magnet
brittle brook
#

eh doubt it will be separated like that

cursive sentinel
#

Give me a pvp and multiplayer toggle and good

vagrant magnet
#

PvP toggle I could see. But not multiplayer.

glad condor
#

Wait since this game is the size of earth wont it be alot easier to discover everything?

elder path
#

The way they worded it in the trailer, I would not expect any pvp

brittle brook
#

eh it works in NMS really well so idk why they wouldnt transfer it over

elder path
#

It's a co op game at its core

vagrant magnet
#

Given the size of the world potentially, aka over 197 million square miles of space, I don't think you have to worry about human interaction usually.

sand wasp
#

Go walk around earth real quick, its kinda big

glad condor
#

That's why humanity created boats and other contraptions

brittle brook
#

lol i mean easier than NMS yeah, wouldnt exactly call it easy tho lmoa

vagrant magnet
#

Unless the idea of people existing on the same planet as you in-game is that bad, it should be fine.

cursive sentinel
glad condor
#

I totally expect that you can make carriages

sand wasp
elder path
#

Comparing it to the size of no man's sky, sure, but it will definitely still be so big it will be hard to explore it all. Real life earth has untouched land to this day

#

Dicknbaus island

glad condor
#

I want to be a dwarf

cursive sentinel
elder path
#

I would actually bet that naming things will be unlikely

vagrant magnet
#

I actually dig the idea that most places not story-focused can get named by players who find it.

glad condor
#

Do we think that we will get species customization?

vagrant magnet
#

Or if nothing else, can name settlements/created by groups.

brittle brook
#

im guessing there gonna be randomly named

glad condor
#

The main 3 and some new ones

#

Humans,Elves and dwarves

vagrant magnet
#

Could see it be to where if a new village/ect. is made, the group can decide on a name for it, and that is what people visiting see.

#

Also makes it obvious to know where to go to for supplies, where to avoid the sweaty nolifers, ect.

glad condor
#

I'm gonna sink so much time into this game

elder path
#

One thing I would find very cool is if there are lots of npc settlements ranging from small villages to full scale kingdoms that are sporadically throughout the world for us to find

brittle brook
#

like naming your own bases

vagrant magnet
#

Also could see more of a local portal system/ect. Where if two villages/towns are within X distance, they can set up a linked portal to each other to go between them ez.

glad condor
#

I know for a fact that there's going to be streamers burning down villages

undone shuttle
elder path
#

Yes I think we will be able to found settlements and name them, but don't expect to be able to name continents and stuff

glad condor
#

They're going to try

cursive sentinel
#

Try =/= do

vagrant magnet
elder path
#

I also hope there is teleportation magic

glad condor
#

And dwarves

elder path
#

So we can cross vast amounts of land after we discover something

glad condor
#

Mine, mine, mine away

elder path
#

Like portals in nms but magic instead of tech

vagrant magnet
#

So you still got to travel a lot to get further, but it gets easier to go between two towns.

cursive sentinel
#

All Im hoping for is to be able to set up a little home, do my thing, and play the game peacefully.

glad condor
#

And set up trade routes

cursive sentinel
#

No random attack, no basegriefing

glad condor
#

There's going to be some people reenacting the silk road

#

Probably

elder path
#

I worry about trolls building spam around established player communities

vagrant magnet
elder path
#

Hopefully you can hide bases like nms

cursive sentinel
#

Why?

elder path
#

Imma go do some math

glad condor
#

Because it would ruin the atmosphere

sand wasp
cursive sentinel
#

A road. Ruin the atmosphere?

vagrant magnet
glad condor
#

If it was in the sky yes

cursive sentinel
#

You gotta lay that one out for me

#

Who said in the sky? Lol

glad condor
#

I'm ok with a ground level one that would be pretty cool

elder path
#

Just walking around the globe once is over 8000 hours

cursive sentinel
#

Roads typically are on the ground

elder path
#

Don't even need to do anymore math to know that won't ever happen

cursive sentinel
#

Also I doubt atmosphere is interactable to us

glad condor
#

Someone will do it

cursive sentinel
#

Thats assuming you can walk in a perfect straight line

sand wasp
vagrant magnet
glad condor
#

Could use dragons and whatnot

glad condor
cursive sentinel
sand wasp
#

You are leaving out building and gathering mats

elder wind
#

I can't imagine the game actually being large as earth, but I think what they are saying is it's going to be an EPIC size.

cursive sentinel
#

You cant imagine? They can

elder wind
#

Do you know how large earth is?

sand wasp
#

Yes

cursive sentinel
#

Roughly

glad condor
#

Around 20 million miles right?

cursive sentinel
#

What are you trying to say?

sand wasp
#

Thats why this is ambitious as they have said

#

Never been done

cursive sentinel
#

Someone has to be the first

glad condor
#

What about minecraft

#

Technically that's infinite

vagrant magnet
#

Assuming have all the material you need already and no breaks, and can get about 0.4 miles of road/path placed per minute, it'd take about 207-210 hours nonstop to build a road going a full lap around the planet.

cursive sentinel
glad condor
cursive sentinel
#

Dunno about bedrock

#

Bedrock is... Bad

sand wasp
vagrant magnet
cursive sentinel
vagrant magnet
#

Or in other words, a week-long project.

glad condor
#

That's pretty short

#

I've seen projects that are years long

vagrant magnet
#

But yeah, that's to place a road one tile or such long down that length.

#

Nothing else, no lighting or extra done.

cursive sentinel
#

Something tells me you do not have much hands-on experience, Runamuck

glad condor
#

On what?

cursive sentinel
#

Projects

glad condor
#

I'm actually starting a project with my friends

cursive sentinel
#

Id ask about details, but this is about LNF

glad condor
#

Yeah

cursive sentinel
#

Just... A week of pure worktime is not short

glad condor
#

I could dm you the idea if you'd like

cursive sentinel
#

I guess?

glad condor
#

It's a problem

#

Anyways in the trailer I saw a skeleton hitting a tree

#

And a player as a rabbit so there will be species customization

junior sigil
#

it probably wont be that kind of game like nms but i hope we can commit a small amount of crimes like in nms

glad condor
#

At the end we see what looks like the atlas but broken in half

muted breach
#

Yay

#

New channel

glad condor
#

Most likely that will be what the game is based on and once again we are in a simulation

#

Or it's just a God

#

Which I would prefer

worn pivot
#

so this is new channel

glad condor
#

Yes

muted breach
# glad condor At the end we see what looks like the atlas but broken in half

What I'm currently thinking is this is faaaaaar in the past from no mans sky and that this is the original, natural universe that wasn't made by the atlas or whatever like
Civilization made the atlas??
And that that half atlas looking thing is a prototype with a smaller simulation that of artemis' universe

#

Or something along those lines

glad condor
#

Kinda like lotr with the elves and their God things?

muted breach
#

Idk the lore for that

glad condor
#

The elves and humanity were made by this God and he had a friend who made the dwarves

#

Friend goes evil and Sauron is his right hand man

cursive sentinel

I hope they arent connected. Would take away from both games

timber dust
#

time for my daily ritual of watching the LNF trailer before bed

#

Heckin heck I can't wait to hear the actual soundtrack of the game. Hoping to experience Paul Weirs take on fantasy genre tunes

#

65dos wouldn't really suit for this type of game as a composer but their in-house audio guy definitely would. Judging by their earlier work

vagrant magnet
#

Seems like given how long it'll be possibly before release, you got X months to get a PS5 for the game.

cursive sentinel
#

Given it supposedly was 5 years indev already, it might as well come out any moment

opaque citrus
#

No release date in trailer so its still long time before release. Many things in the trailer still looks rough and raw.

#

Imo release will be 2026. Around 10y nms release anniversary

cinder notch
#

What

#

Holy cow

timber dust
# opaque citrus Imo release will be 2026. Around 10y nms release anniversary

I doubt HG would dare to show footage of the game 3 years before release. That's such a huge timeframe for various changes that could happen during development. It would yet again lead in the final product changing from shown and giving more fuel to those "promise hate" bandwagon people.

Also Sean has stated before that they aren't interested in doing such a lengthy marketing campaign with the new title as they did with NMS

#

a lot can change in gamedev even in one year, not to mention 3

#

My money is on 2026 for release

#

what they showed is definitely somewhat polished

#

but they didn't announce anything of substance, so it's obviously not super far along

hasty kiln
#

also, we hit 3mil!
very nice.

#

most viewed video on their channel

#

i hope this means more people are interested, since more interest means more money for HG which means more updates for NMS and LNF

;-;

hasty kiln
#

i hope we get teasers along the way, both to curb unfounded hopes and encourage interest. also, it would be cool

timber dust
#

But a whole year between announcement and release would definitely be the safest timeframe. Going past that the game would go through such development hurdles that features could change drastically, leading to yet another "This was promised, why not here" fiasco.

hasty kiln
#

hmm, i would say ~2 years

worn pivot
#

end of 24 we hops game come out and so we cna play it

timber dust
#

also HGs disinterest towards huge marketing campaign similar to NMS leadup would really fight against several year anticipation building

#

lotsa hype, lotsa imagination, lotsa articles. Things that feed false "promises"

dense lagoon
#

This is the thing, they've announced nothing and a lotta people are already deciding what features it has

#

could be a movie

sand wasp

As usual

#

Every game does this these days

Cool lookin' movie tho

sand wasp

GTA VI is off the rails with their speculation

im not even excited for gta VI. its gonna become another "milk online" scenario like gta 5

#

fantasy nms :D

hasty kiln
#

fantasy nms :)

timber dust
#

But yeah. The longer they let this game marinate and grow expectations and hype, the harder the launch will be. Some people can't take the trailer at face value and I don't blame them. The announcement leaves a lot of room for imagination. Just like NMS announcement did all those years ago

dense lagoon
#

I think they'll have something concrete decently soon

#

Any big shows Q1 2024?

vagrant magnet
#

I did see wood and stone housing at least with walls, roofs, ect. And I imagine later on we get to work with metal/other materials too.

timber dust
#

Personally not that big fan of Geoff but hey, at least there's a game show

dense lagoon
#

HG have gone to PGC in the past as well, done a couple of talks on NMS' engine

timber dust
#

Isn't that more of an industry thing where gamedevs come together to talk about their work and such? Not really a place for game announcements. Although there could be sneak peeks behind LNF:s dev tools and such

dense lagoon
#

Definitely not big announcements but it's the sort of conference you get articles like "we sat down with x to talk about y"

timber dust
#

if HG has perfected their craft with proc gen and can actually utilizie it in meaningful and crazy ways that could revolutionize gaming industry. I doubt that's the thing but hey... they're one of few proc gen veterans in gamedev industry

#

I am curious if the flying mounts are going to be endgame things, or expensive to use in some way, so much speed on those compared to running around or even riding a horse type animal

vagrant magnet
#

As an Ex World of Warcraft player who saw what flying mounts did to the game, it's best for it to not only be endgame but also hard/expensive to use often given otherwise players will just only use them and ignore everything on the ground otherwise.

toxic quest
eternal frigate
#

Some kind of maintenance cost rather than being hard to get initially I think

vagrant magnet
#

Players will always look for/use the easiest/laziest way to get X or Y done.

eternal frigate
#

Tbh NMS kinda has that as well. Why am I going to run or even drive an exocraft, I will just fly unless it is a very short distance

timber dust
#

that's just a personal opinion but I think it adds a lot gameplay value

vagrant magnet
#

As long as flying once unlocked doesn't allow you to speed through the entire game map in 5 minutes, it's all gud to me.

eternal frigate
#

Perhaps flying long distances uses up a lot of food for the creature carrying you

timber dust
eternal frigate
#

Pretty much

toxic quest
timber dust
#

I love how some mmorpgs incorporate flying as a late unlock

vagrant magnet
#

I am curious if we'll also have skill levels for things like mining, woodcutting, ect. And that ends up being how you get better tools/crafting unlocks.

timber dust
#

If it follows some old school rpg design philosophies, theres likely going to be a looot of skill lines to put points on

#

old elder scrolls and so on

vagrant magnet
#

And to unlock later "ages" of technology, you need certain tools or to build certain things like a crafting table, ect. to get access to new stuff.

timber dust
#

Idk I'm young. There are probably better examples than TES

timber dust
vagrant magnet
#

Things like "if you want to use iron/other metals, you need to build a forge and a blacksmith's table/anvil" and "if you want to do more than the basics with wood, you need a woodcutter's saw/ect.".

#

And depending on how much of each material you need for bigger tools/builds/ect., it becomes more obvious working together/forming a settlement/ect. is a big benefit to do.

modest dawn
vagrant magnet
#

And once started, anyone who touches it can have it form a marker on your map so you always know where it is.

#

The potential for towns/villages is immense, depending on what all can be built besides the usual wood/dirt/stone houses.

modest dawn
#

i was focusing on looking at flora detail and pop-in of elements when i noticed them

vagrant magnet
#

I am def. excited for the potential of countless biomes. The only problem is of the human element. Or more-so "how long before players teraform anything unique into whatever houses/buildings/ect. they build instead" as inevitably people go build happy.

modest dawn
#

because in the scene where the character is flying over the mountain top and there's a floating island/structure they're going toward, you can see boulders start to pop in, then the camera tilts down a bit (i think to try and make it less apparent. not faulting them here, of course you'd put the best shots in a trailer)

vagrant magnet

Because players will want to build where all the cool areas are at, and thus inevitably crowd those places until they cease to be unique.

lime marsh

trees in LNF do use actual 3D models unlike NMS from what I can see

neon whale
#

What do they use?

lime marsh
#

hm?

dense lagoon
#

I think they mean trees appear pre-rendered

neon whale
#

2D planes... hmm!

dense lagoon
#

Which, I think I agree with, a lot of assets looked pre-rendered vs proc gen

neon whale
#

Maybe it's only for trailer.

dense lagoon
#

could be, could also be they took the starfield approach with a mix of proc gen and hand built locations

neon whale
#

And I think the game will see major changes in the first 3 months of release.

#

Hmm! There will be hand-built locations for certain, the floating base thing, the tower POI, the giant in the badlands etc.

timber dust
#

That's just basic gamedev stuff. Further away objects switch to lower poly versions and at the lowest, 2D sprites/impostors of the actual asset

neon whale
#

From what I am looking at in the trailer I see those trees and other flora to be fully 3D

#

Using planes as texture holders has been a method used in almost all CGI stuff.

#

So that's not an alien concept.

modest dawn
#

billboards and impostors

timber dust
#

Nothing wrong in having the very furthest objects render as 2D sprites tho. They offer no gameplay benefit for being 3D assets and only consume performance that could be used for more immediate things in player viscinity

neon whale
#

Yeah!

#

The closers an object is the more 3D it should be, more detailed. That's the stuff with LOD

lime marsh
#

jesus

neon whale

modest dawn
#

as far as i can tell, everything seems to be more cooperation. i don't think i've really seen anything pvp-ish?

cursive sentinel
vagrant magnet
#

Even then, there'll still be competition between groups, in the age-old tradition of "who has the bigger outpost/kingdom/buildings/ect." to feed egos.

neon whale
# vast tendon What do you mean

No matter what you do in your save it never affects the other person because your "save file" is not uploaded to the only server HG has, the Online Discovery Services.

The only time it affects the game is when someone is griefer, and that too can be completely removed from the picture by switching off multiplayer in network settings.

LNF is a single player + online co-op game. It doesn't have a MMO-esq multiplayer, at least as per steam.

vagrant magnet
#

If anything, I could see happening a "main" online world that people can go to, and then more private servers for friends/ect.

neon whale
#

Moreover if HG does invest in a multiplayer setup with proper servers I think the testing grounds will be NMS. We do have some indication of a racing system in the future updates for NMS, that could mean player v player races, online...

#

Here's hoping!

cursive sentinel
#

Lets hope youre right.

vagrant magnet
vast tendon
# neon whale No matter what you do in your save it never affects the other person because you...

I know that, but the biggest thing I dislike about no mans sky is that while it is multiplayer, there is not much substance to it beyond "make-your-own-fun," because in order to create anything sizable you must modify the game or use glitches, and while doing that you can just add hundreds of items to your inventory.

If that were to happen in LNF, I would see no point to the game as there is no reason to venture to the wilderness and explore it when you can just spawn items to your inventory and get everything you need.

Were save editing impossible, you would not have that option. But because save editing is possible in NMS, if one person skips the game with save editing, everyone may as well

vagrant magnet
#

I imagine that devs know players want to make huge things in-game.

vast tendon
#

The whole "untouched wilderness" feeling is just ruined for me when you know that anyone could come along and build huge stuff there using spawned-in items through save editors

timber dust
#

for nms it was kinda necessary during the early days

vagrant magnet
vast tendon
vast tendon
modest dawn
#

all we can do is wait and see lol

vagrant magnet
#

Anyways, as for actually starting, most tools/tech/ect. will likely be locked behind getting more basic tools and things like crafting areas/ect. built first and setting up base.

vast tendon
#

For me, LNF could be perfect, but if save editing is possible like in NMS the game would be unfortunately ruined for me

vagrant magnet
#

So most likely expect to see most new players going full Caveman grug with sticks and primitive tools.

neon whale
# vast tendon I know that, but the biggest thing I dislike about no mans sky is that while it ...

This is in your hands though, correct? You do not have to add anything to use glitches, and the glitches we currently have don't make a huge impact except giving us more control over objects, like scaling, giving them the same origin, orienting them in specific angles. Secondly, the stuff you can add in your inventory is in your hands altogether. If you're adding stuff with a consciousness of "this is wrong, I don't like it" that's on you.

As I said, my billions of credits mean nothing to you, and vice-versa. If I have something it's not impacting your gameplay in the slightest. Heck, I don't even play the game in multiplayer. I genuinely do not see anything wrong with save editing.

timber dust
# vast tendon Which is why I hope they make it possible without mods, because otherwise the LN...

This exactly.

Reason why I stopped "playing" NMS was when I dabbled in the modding scene, did a few mods, used plenty and tried save editing.

All the meaning and purpose of actually progressing were lost. Why do time limited expeditions if one can just mod the rewards in. Why do anything requiring effor when it can be unlocked with mods or save edits.

The only reason I ever come to NMS these days is for social reasons, expedition experience (not the rewards since those are meaningless) and to see and play through new content

vagrant magnet
#

Modding is fine for me, it's only a problem when you have a That Guy spawn in enough materials to get into endgame gear and go mach 35 with endgame mount to start destroying everyone online.

vast tendon
timber dust
rapid verge

vast tendon

If NMS had a "mods" and "vanilla" server it would be an amazing game for me

Let others do what they are doing. I have one friend who always mods the hell out of every game that allow it.

Sure they mean good by wanting to boost our progress and everything but personally I find it annoying.

For example, we bought Satisfactory. I was expecting countless hours of fun and factory building but said friend of mine was curiously progressing way faster than the game would allow.

In the end, we had insane map-sprawling production lines and such in less than a week and I no longer had a reason to play the game.

Paid for an entertainment product, got the progress "skipped" by a modder, had nothing more to do.

I think the planet will be instanced just like NMS has. Shared but instanced too.

vagrant magnet
#

I think Bethesda and Skyrim warped how some people view games, where if they don't have 1K+ mods for a game, they think it's bad.

sand wasp
#

It's all down to player preference

rapid verge
dense lagoon

It appears to be using the NMS engine so yeah, fire team based multiplayer with instanced passive multiplayer

#

would be my guess

kind hinge

Hope it runs better on consoles

sand wasp

Runs fine on my console

😛

neon whale

For example, survival difficulty will change difficulty for normal mode.

Some MMOs have "Instance zones" like dungeons

Outside of the instance zone, everyone plays together

Inside of the instance zone, every group of players play seperately like its a single player game

rapid verge
#

So we will explore the planet and it will be empty of players because everyone’s in there own little world ?

vast tendon
#

Unknown

sand wasp
#

Only if there are multiplayer settings to allow for that

vagrant magnet

Odds are this game will be next gen only, so as to actually make sure it goes smooth.

In other words, anyone still on PS4 has time to upgrade.

neon whale
# rapid verge I’m Confusion 🫠😆

You and I play on the same planet, let's call it Planet Gleam... you are playing in Normal mode, I am playing in Survival mode. For you Planet Gleam has no sentinel, for me it has high sentinel. You are building a base at location XYZ, I am also building a base at location XYZ... we are sharing two instances of the same planet.

timber dust
# rapid verge What does instanced mean again rip my brain knowledge XD

The game will connect a group of people together. Everything within said instance will sync between the players inside it.

In case of NMS, the max instance size is 32 players. Once that is reached, the game will dynamically create a new instance in that location, updating stuff in real time for those within the new instance

Saying that wasn’t NMS orginally single player and multiplayer was added later (correct me if I’m wrong) LNF is being marketed as exploring the world alone or with others so we can’t be sure how this will be it should be a much more fun tho

From the website (link pinned)

"Light No Fire is a game about adventure, building, survival and exploration together. Set on a fantasy planet the size of Earth, it brings the depth of a role playing game to the freedom of a survival sandbox."

The movie Pocahontas perfectly mirrors the two types of players that the game will likely have: Those who want to explore the world and enjoy its sights and wonders....and those who want to claim the land, dig it up to oblivion for its resources and become filthy rich/form full colonies and empires on the broken land.
