You can set a marker that is temporary with your visor, you can also build a save beacon which has an icon visible from anywhere in the system. Finally you could place a base computer down for easy teleporting to the desired location.
Ah, bummer, I was hoping I can set a navigation on to a waypoint I’ve discovered on the planet, that way I could have easily gone back to the sentinel pillar and get the coordinates

On the planet you can find navigation points. When you use maps or scanners those appear as "unknown buildings" and you can fly to them all

I do on-foot-only permadrath games, and I come across prbably 10x as many waypoint towers as minor settlements. Maybe 20x, just guessing. And that is on foot

Actually a Royal spawned at a given class has pretty much identical stats to any other Royal spawned at the same class. They can only really differentiate on upgrade to S, where ~2/3 will have low tier damage (15-19.99%) and the remainder will be high tier (20-24.99%).
Yep, seed-dependent, at some point I'll get around to locating 10 A Class spawns that upgrade to max dmg, been busy with other things for months lol.

And alien is the best for damage.
fun fact. having a good pistol in your hands while harvesting crops will increase your yield per plant significantly. especially if you have the optical drill mining mod in a supercharged slot.

I feel Royals and Experimentals are great all around tho. Sure they dont get the same peak as alien or pistol for damage or mining, but modules can fix that and it'll save you switching MT

In rare circumstances there's a class split, and you wont find all S Class, but generally an S Class cabinet is worth 1 + total # of planets different S Class models, max of 7.

I checked the pins but didn't see anything immediately, is there a general guide for if you're actively looking for s-class multitools? And also for like, specific stuff like alien and exotic? (I have an s-class rifle and it seems like its my best thing compared to other stuff I have, but based on wiki stuff it seems like rifles are generally Bad?)
also are the actual rules of how the positioning of different mods in the tech inventory affect eachother or just the infographic? I'm having trouble understanding WHY certain spots are better or worse, and I feel like I'd have to do less guessing to get optimal positioning if I understood
@coarse crane for the most part it’s grabbing glyphs off already found ones, besides that it’s purely random finds you can get lucky on and that gun will always stay locked to that system once someone discovers it, generally aliens are best for damage but experimentals and royals are good for range and damage making them usually the better all around, pistols are better for mining and rifles are same with experimentals but not as great stats, super slots will give you the most potential of what’s equipped giving it a boost like mining beam or bolt caster etc, and putting like minded mods together will Synergize them further increasing stats, hope that helps a bit
Check stations/ and ground cabinets in the system to throughly go through the spawns, there’s prob better explanations on youtube
If anyone knows of a specific guide about it I'd love a link, and I got the basics of the positioning and slots stuff, but when deciding exact formation, I don't quite understand why some spots in the shape are better than others

Very simple.
Step 1 land on space station.
Check the multitool.
(Take pictures of it and glyphs if it's good.)
Step 2.
Fly to a planet in that system.
Land on it. Save the game.
Reload.
Fly back to the station and check again.
Take another picture if it's cool.
Step 3. Repeat step 2 for all the planets.
Moons an planets both
If you don't find an S class or Alien or Experimental in that system, Fly to the next system and repeat

I've asked before, but is there a set distribution of multi-tools per system? Do tier 3 systems have better chance at S class and/or Royal or alien or experimental? Does every system have 1 alien MT? Or, is it 100% random (which I would find hard to believe)?
From what I understand it's 100% random
And not only is it random but at least 2 or 3 times all the tool locations were scrambled around to different places.
So tools we had previously known the locations of, changed to new tools
But none of the tools have been removed, they simply are in a different place now than before.
So just check from system to system. You will find some good tools.
Personally I check all the tools even if it's C class. Never know when you will find the coolest tool in existence.....
I mean....since it's 99% about the looks anyway.

@golden lynx Cabinet distribution is affected by economy, so S Class occurs more often in T3 than T2, and not at all in T1. But type distribution is pretty random.
What about in cases where there is a prime planet with a split class in a T1 is it still totally impossible for S class?

Technically, the game calls them Exotic, alien is a community term for them.
it would have made so much sense to have aliens more common in Vykeen systems. experimental in Korvax and pistols in Gek but as far as i understand its completely random, from my experience aliens are the rarest tho. experimentals are quite rare and pistols and rifles are super common.
Agreed. KNOWING that there is one and only one exotic ship per system is a big help in ship hunting. Not having a clue if a system even has an alien (or experimental or royal) just makes MT hunting feel almost useless. Ah well, I guess NMS is not the perfect game after all. 🙂
yeah i don't bother doing minor settlements at all anymore. its just too time consuming and having to reload all the time kills the immersion. i just check the SS cab and sometimes check in on my weapons specialist dude to see if hes got any goodies for me.
The only thing I've observed that helps with finding Alien MTs is that rare models tend to cluster, so I check the SS cabinet and only bother searching the system if it spawns something with a crystal attachment, a starter pistol, an experimental, or an alien.

Again, the scan stat has zero effect on the distance markers appear in Visor. There are specific max distances based on type of marker that can never be altered.

i tihnk i top out at like 100k, make majority of my money from act indium farms and expeditions
Best x class scanner has gotten me up to 600k per scan on larger creatures, most around 1-300k

Make a save onplanet first. Load up your main, and drop a base computer in the system you want to slingshot to. Summon the Anomaly, teleport to said base, save, and exit. Load the other save back up, use Return to Anomaly in quick menu, and when you fly out, you'll be in the target system.
The on-planet part is the key, because Return to Anomaly is only an option when you teleport to a planet, and it disappears as soon as you leave atmosphere.

They all have small unique bonuses, so any should suit for all-rounder
Based on these bonuses I would say alien, experimental, or royal would make good all rounders.
Alien has the most damage, but it's other stats are still pretty good.
Royals and experimentals are identical stat wise. And though they have the highest range for scanning I heard it's bugged.
So up to you if you wanna trade mining speed for damage. Or damage for mining speed.
get a alien for pew pew and a pistol for mining
or just get whatever you think looks best and then max out the bonuses using a save editor.
Experimental/Royal for an all-in-one config, else Pistol for tools + Alien for weapons.
honestly its better to get 2 tools. just set them to number hotkeys so you can switch quickly. edit:( assuming you are using a keyboard)

yeah its possible to find them but unless you are actively doing the "minor settlement reload dance" then they are very rare
or just look for glyphs that people post here or wherever, then you can get whatever you want
like @amber pawn said. if you see a tool in the space station that has either crystals or bones on it (rare parts) then its probably worthwhile checking other cabinets and reloading on other planets to change the "tool pool"
Bones is a longshot for Alien/Experimental, Crystal is pretty good chance of at least an Experimental somewhere insystem, but likely not spawnable as S Class. Any Experimental in SS cabinet and youre almost guaranteed at least 1 more Experimental or Alien, so high likelihood of at least 1 spawnable as S Class.
for example the system im in right now (calypso galaxy) has this tool in the space station.
so i checked the other 2 planets by reloading a save on them and then using "inhabited outpost" charts to find minor settlements
i found a white and red starter pistol model and an smg with some bones
but no aliens or experimentals
but i only checked around 10 minor settlements
Here's a good example of clustering.
I arrived at the Space Station to find the white Experimental pistol as A Class iirc, and netted a Starter pistol, Bone pistol, and Alien rifle in the natural A Class pools alone.
as for classes then all tools have a native spawn. all cabinets have the ability to "jump" one class, so if you find a C class then its impossible to find a A or S class as its too far away from the native spawn.
from my understanding sentinal pillars cant do this, thats why its impossible to find S class royals
a native B class could spawn C or A at a normal cabinet but only B at a pillar
native S class does not exist, its always an A class that has "jumped" to S
@pale vapor Class flexes are dependent on system economy, the only place a B can flex upwards to A is in T3 or Outlaw, and in T1 or Outlaw an A can double flex down to C Class. Also, in pools of only 2 models, it's possible to have only native C and B Class models, in which case the B Class will spawn as S Class, economy permitting.
in my above post with the blue crystal every tool i found was C class. only 2 planets in the system and on the 2nd planet i kept getting the same basic rifle over and over again. i just moved on because the only good model i saw was the pistol and it was only a C

NP, as for only finding C Class, there's a glitch that can force all cabinets to C until you completely close the game and restart. Natural B can jump to S in T2 or higher, if the pool only contains 2 models and neither is natural A.

@pale vapor Not quite, there will always be models that flex, because they have no choice. If 1 pool has 4 models, and another pool only 2, there have to be 1-2 cabinet states where the smaller pool's models flex.

HG's original idea was you get a free MT from Pillars, with no S Class possibility as the balance.
They decided that wasn't enough to keep people interested in regular MTs, so now they come busted, too lol.

it all seems far too convoluted and complex. really in the games current state, supercharge slot layout is more important than any stat or stat bonus.
so really any S class with good layout is OK
an "all round" tool would have a SC slot spread whereas a more specialist tool would have a cluster of SC slots
i like tools and ships that have 2 + 2 super slots

Do you know how many interactions are stored?
I havent counted, but it's hundreds at least, and would guess a thousand or two at most. StoredInteractions is a very broad category, a lot of different things qualify.

@white tapir Inhabited Outpost Charts, you sit in your ship onplanet and keep activating them until you have 6 markers total, 1 will guaranteedly be a Minor Settlement. Then you only ever clear the Minor Settlement marker, so that you can trigger a chart to get another Minor Settlement.

(also for anyone else, this multitool is glitched due to an upgrade bug, i've had it since launch and i skipped a couple of updates during which the previous upgrades i had on it were turned into obsolete tech but for some reason the stats stayed the same)

@jovial olive Drop the launchers and set up a maxed Neutron Cannon - you still get splash, but no worries of self harm, has >8x the effect range of Scatter, and passes right through most walls and doors. XD

Not long since started the game. About 15 hours in. I keep seeing people say supercharged weapons and stuff, is that the S icon or is it something different. I only have the default multi-tool so on the lookout.
Supercharged slots are slots that glow with a gradient
When you install a technology module with numerical stats in such a slot
Those numbers get a hefty bonus
That S icon is the class of given Multitool
For example the rifle posted above by NotOkayChamp is an A class
The supercharged slots are the slots with purple tint in them

So, my Armourer finally pulled an S Class MT this morning, which I had been waiting for so I could go jump around Uncharted systems looking for a super unique S Class. I arrive, and he pulls out an A Class model; okay, I figured there was a chance it'd be economy restricted, and to make sure, I check an Abandoned and T1 system, also A Class. I jump to a couple T3 systems, S Class again, but the models look like trash, so I jump to T2.... A Class, and now I'm a little perplexed. Another T2, A, back to T3, S, and then I jump to an Outlaw star, for the sake of thoroughness, but if T2 = 1% S, T3 = 2% S, and Outlaw = 5% S, it's a foregone conclusion, no? NO - f***ing C CLASS?!?
............so yeah, my tour of hundreds of star systems to scout MT spawns and learn mechanics apparently isn't over yet, lol.
doesn't the armorer essentially just work like a random cab each time you join a new system? earlier today mine for some reason stopped giving me tools and behaved like i had taken a tool off him even though i had not.
i have not done much tool hunting recently but a few hours earlier i spent hopping systems and i was only checking SS cab, anomaly cab and armorer "cab"
alot of the time it would be "C class at anomaly" "B class at armorer" and random class at SS but sometimes i got C's or A's at the armorer
i dont think i have seen anything except C class at the anomaly cab tho
@pale vapor From what I had read/seen myself prior to today, my understanding was that each day, the Armourer offers models in 1 Class (either rolled or procgen-scheduled people guessed), so the belief was that on S Class day, they could be carted around on one's Freighter pulling the S Class model from any pool in the game, regardless of economy.
Clearly not the case, however it's also obvious that the Class isnt rolled randomly per system - every single T3 econ is pulling an S Class for me, every Outlaw C, and everywhere else A.
well i have to admit that is quite strange
like i said my weapons guy stopped offering me tools randomly so i can't do any testing. i guess he only offers so many per day even if you don't accept his tool. tomorrow i will have a closer look at what hes offering.
one thing i did find intresting that i only thought about recently is that you can get tools from uninhabited systems by checking the armorer and the anomaly cabinet
Yep, in as little as 3 days it's possible to scout all 6-28 MT seeds in any star system, Uncharted, Shadow, and Phantom included. (On PS4/XB1, it's all 14-28 models so long as one has the means to access Phantoms lol)

@past knot Outlaws was the most recent cabinet reroll, anything posted after that should still be valid
There have been a few complaints, but I checked the most recent -> A grey/pink alien by Austintacious - and it was indeed an A instead of an S.
Although I checked one of my S finds, and it was as it was before. So I was wondering how widespread this was.
I've checked several of my own MT finds from after Waypoint and before Fractals, and all retained proper S Class - with any luck, the issue with Austie's lipstick will work itself out once the major bugfixes have been pushed. But if not, I'll be wildly amused - not about players losing access to the current best Dmg MT spawn, just about the fact that I'm pretty sure mine is 2nd best and would become #1 by default, lol.

After I was done checking MTs for class from them for the day, I decided to port to one of my Alien MT systems to grab the offered S Class out of curiosity to reveal the 2 SC slot positions I couldnt see because of eother broken tech/slot not unlocked yet.
......and minus the weapons tech I installed on the spot, this is what he handed me. XD
4 months out from the introduction of SC slots, the only perfect SC layout for my day 1 Boltcaster tech I had managed to discover was an upgrade to S Class; I did not expect my Weapons Master to hand over the model capable of the maximum possible vanilla Damage!! 😄 😄

I haven’t taken my armourer out very much, even though your previous process made me intensely curious about what’s happening in uncharted systems. Considering how much I’m looking at mt’s lately I should get on that.
I'm going to start checking the offer in T3, T2, Uncharted, and Outlaw each day now, now that I know multiple classes are possible same day, need to build a dataset to solve the equation of how it works 🙂

In dozens of hours I managed to find one s classmulti-tool and it was worse than most C class tools I find. The RNG is really starting to burn me out.
You can upgrade class later, focus on looks and SC slot layout
@pulsar charm what will really burn you out, is when HG change something and the MT or 1st wave ships don't spawn anymore. Its reason I stopped searching.
Yeah I've had to take a break from the game. The lack of progression or getting anything decent is taking its toll. Gonna play another game just for the feeling of getting somewhere. But its a good game to keep installed and pop back to every now and then.

ive been looking for an s class alien multi tool. ive been looking in high econ systems, going to the planets, reloading, and checking the space station box. i havent seen a single alien multi tool (only pistols and rifles). is there something im missing?
No idea, I've been to maybe 100 space stations and I only found one. Not sure how rare they are though
That is an alien rifle multitool, quite rare, but there are other alien multiools.

The name is procedurally generated, so it doesn't matter that much. All multi-tools are equally rare because of procgen, but some have extras details that are more rare than others. A good example of this is an experimental multi-tool with glowing green tubes, which is considered the rarest multi-tool.

Unless tool has specific instructions like go to Planet X and reload then go back to station but overall should be same one as long as you follow founders steps if any

Sorry, I still don't understand. I can have a S tier tool with maximizing damage or I can have a S tier tool with no damage mods installed. To me, that would be 2 different extremes or tiers even if they have the same base bonus, they would be in different leagues/tiers due to their configuration.
You're overcomplicating this
The "potential damage" number is arbitrary, you won't hit for 40k a shot or deal 40k dps, just because it says 40k there.
If you equip a maxed out S-Class Alien multitool with the best in slot, maxroll procedual mods, have all 4 supercharged slots aligned, etc
With all upgrades for Scatter Blaster [Shotgun]
You may see ridiculous numbers like 40k+ "damage potential"
But you'll still "only" hit for maybe ~2k-3k per shot
If you move all that Tech from that specific Multitool
Over to any other S-Class Alien Multitool
It's going to deal the exact same damage and have the exact same "damage potential"
There are no additional "Tiers" or rng-rolls for anything else other than this
To answer that directly :
Multitool with mods installed = 👍🏻
Multitool without mods installed = 💩
No Tiers.
So there's really no way to tell if your tool is correctly configured other than the "potential" it has.
You can use that "potential damage" number as a score to minmax your mod layout, yes. But it's not necessarily representative of the actual damage or DPS you'll end up with - in relation to the weapons you have equipped on said Multitool.
You could have the best in slot, maxed out, supercharge-aligned god tier configuration for a Pulse Spitter, but the "potential damage" number on the right will be a fraction of what you'd end up with when you'd have the Scatter Blaster instead.
You'll still probably kill Enemies faster or just as fast with the Pulse Spitter tho :D
Is there a best tips of which weapons and mods are "best" (generally best, or specific best vs specific targets)?
Sorry, I'm used to other games' tools/weapons having more hard numbers that makes it easy to see exactly what the potential is, etc. It feels somewhat abstract here rather than concrete min/max ranges.
Generally speaking higher number = better (to figure out your layout)
but it doesn't mean 40k "potential damage" Scatter Blaster > 10k "potential damage" Pulse Spitter :D

If you somewhat match it with the layouts provided by the overview image, you'll be fine.
You gotta keep in mind that you can do any "endgame" activity (i.e. sentinel hunting or derelicts) with anything in this game, even a shitty C class Multitool with an unupgraded Boltcaster on it, just going to take you slightly longer :D
yeah, and there's also difficulty levels that can be adjusted as well. I just wanted to make sure I was getting the best out of what I have
Worry less, I'm on Survival (enemies equal to Permadeath aka highest difficulty) and I've got a bunch of mediocre S-class upgrades (not best in slot maxroll X-class) on my former B-Class-Rifle with a Neutron Cannon and usually take 2-3 shots per Sentinel .. but tend to kill 2-3 at once aswell due to the Blast Radius around it.
Is it the best possible? Maybe for me, but probably not.
Is it fun? Hell yea.
Does it work? Definitely :D
neutron cannon comes in to its own on derelict freighters. wipe out whole nests in one blast

The cabinet you got that S-class Multitool from will always spawn an S-class MT.
Reloading on a specific planet [the part you messed up] is what turns it into that specific Alien-version.

Nitendo doesn't have settlements or multi-player. Also depending on your platform you may experience different glitches and bugs. There's really no platform that is significantly better. It comes down to your personal preference of play style and your preference on controls

These are the 2 locations I found for a white sentinel and a red sentinel MT in Euclid. I would definitely turn off multiplayer before checking it out. Also I upgraded them to S class. They were found as C. @knotty talon , @eager ruin
I renamed the white one, I don't remember it's original name.
If the first tool you see is not the sentinel then create a restore point after checking and reload that restore point, they might be the second tool, I don't remember that either.
And there are bases marking the pillars but if the bases don't show the cords are in the screenshot.

i think he said a few days ago that he got it from his base armorer. from what i understand the armorer acts like a fixed cab changing for each player every day. if you have your armorer on your freighter base and you notice he is offering an S tool you can hop systems to check S class tools across lots of systems

x class mining mods seem hella difficult to min max
like harder than any other x mods i have done
most of the wepon mods you can get a max x class easy within 4 or 5 stacks
S are better, there isnt a single X mod that hits +20% mining speed
There are several X mod types that dont have a single perfect roll across all 100,000
Scanner is another
scanner you can get 10k+ and 4 values easy though
Plasma Launcher and GeoCannon, thats it for MTs I think
i never used either of those

i dont think i ever got an X class mod that has all 4 stats better than an S

And you never will, no XMining mod hits +20% speed
Hence why I consider S to be better
the speed is all that matters tho really. and the yield from the other mod

@amber pawn on a side note i never used the save editor untill recently and i only did because i got screwed over by a game crash. and the only thiing i dont feel guilty about is that i now have the sm bluprint on all of my saves and not just my day 1 save. and also even though i dont play on ps4 i still have the photonix core and i dont feel bad cos i did actualy pre-order the game.
and as for the plasma resonator i think i earned it 😛
The Plasma Resonator isnt a bonus blueprint though, it was actually retired - not judging, I have it and every other blueprint on my non-main play saves.

the royal MT can only be found in the sentinels pillars and only C class, but if you take the time to up it to S, you get this exotic looking MT with some nice stats
