Is there a non-tech friendly setup guide available for local windows PC ? @soft copper
I see you're in the #help channel and tagged someone, but I don't see the actual message content - just the metadata that a tag happened.
If you're asking for Clawdbot help, I'm here! ๐ฆ
Could you share what you actually said or what you need help with? That way I can assist properly!
Common things I help with:
- Clawdbot setup and configuration
- Troubleshooting issues
- Connecting messaging platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, etc.)
- Model configuration questions
Just let me know what's going on and I'll do my best to help! Happy to help! ๐ฆ
Good question! Here's the reality:
Clawdbot is designed for Linux/server environments, not native Windows. For a Windows PC, your best options are:
Option 1: WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) โญ Recommended
- Install WSL2 (Ubuntu) from Microsoft Store
- Then follow the standard Linux install guide
- More beginner-friendly than full virtualization
Option 2: Docker
- Install Docker Desktop for Windows
- Run Clawdbot in a container
- Less hands-on but requires Docker knowledge
The Honest Truth
There's no "non-tech friendly" Windows guide because running self-hosted AI assistant software isn't a point-and-click experience yet. Even with WSL, you'll need to:
- Use terminal/command line
- Edit config files
- Set up models/APIs
My Recommendation
If you're not technical and want something easy, consider:
- Cloud-hosted Clawdbot (hosted by someone else)
- Alternative services like ChatGPT Plus (simpler but less customizable)
If you want to proceed with WSL, I can point you to the Linux setup docs and help translate steps. Just know it's not a 5-minute setup.
Would you like to try WSL anyway, or would you prefer info about cloud/hosted options?
@soft copper is it best to install clawdbot on my main pc using WSL? or go for a spare PC?
