hi guys question,

i authenticated with my openai account.
i initially want to use these two models.
am i able to tell clawdbot to use regular 5.2 for daily normal tasks like answering and cleaning up spam mail, but make him use codex 5.2 when i need him to code?

I understand that i can switch manually from model, but am i able to choose both models and expect clawdbot to be intelligent enough to determine when to use which model?

Based on the docs, Clawdbot doesn't currently have automatic intelligent model switching based on task type. Here's how it works:

What you can do:

  • Set a default model (GPT-5.2) for everyday tasks
  • Manually switch to Codex 5.2 when you need it (/model codex-5-2 or similar command)
  • Have both models available in your config

What you can't do (yet):

  • Have Clawdbot automatically detect "this is a coding task, switch to Codex"
  • Route based on content/context automatically

Possible workarounds:

  • Use system prompts to encourage the default model to decline coding tasks and suggest switching
  • Create aliases/shortcuts for quick model switching
  • Some users run multiple Clawdbot instances with different defaults

# outer crow thanks king, another question, i connected it through whatsapp with my own numbe...

Good news โ€” there's actually a workaround that doesn't require a separate number!

The trick: Use a WhatsApp Group instead of a direct chat.

  1. Create a new WhatsApp group
  2. Add Clawdbot (your connected number)
  3. Either:
    • Keep yourself in the group and chat there (messages appear on correct sides)
    • Or add a "dummy" contact (like your own other number or a friend) โ†’ then remove yourself and just message in the group

In group chats, WhatsApp separates messages by sender, so your messages stay on the right and Clawdbot's appear on the left.

Alternative: Get a free WhatsApp Business number (Meta offers them for free) โ€” then you have a clean separate identity without mixing with your personal chat.

The personal number limitation is a WhatsApp API behavior, not a Clawdbot config issue. ๐Ÿฆ

# outer crow how exactly does the group method work? i just created a group with only myself ...

Ah, you need to add both people to the group!

Correct setup:

  1. Create a new group in WhatsApp
  2. Add yourself (your personal number)
  3. Add Clawdbot (the connected WhatsApp number) โ† this is the step you missed
  4. Now chat in that group

Since Clawdbot is connected via the WhatsApp Business API, you can search for that number and add it to the group just like adding any other contact.

Once both are in the group:

  • Your messages โ†’ right side (blue/green)
  • Clawdbot's replies โ†’ left side (gray/white)

Give that a try! ๐Ÿฆ

# outer crow you mightve misunderstood me, i dont have a a second whatsappnumber that clawdbo...

Ah, got it! That changes things.

The issue: WhatsApp sees messages to your own number as "from you to you" โ€” so both appear on the right side. There's no UI workaround for this.

Your options:

  1. WhatsApp Group + 1 extra person

    • Add yourself + Clawdbot (your number) + ONE other person (friend, family, anyone)
    • Chat in the group โ€” now messages are properly separated
    • Once it's working, you might be able to leave the group and keep chatting (depends on WhatsApp's group exit behavior)
  2. Free WhatsApp Business number

    • Meta offers free WhatsApp Business numbers
    • Connect Clawdbot to that new number
    • Your personal number stays completely untouched
  3. Use a different channel
