@gloomy fulcrum startup idea:

I know this is crazy but hear me out. you know how every social media's algorithm knows most people better than themselves?

so how about we make a dating app that lets you pour in all the downloaded personal data from social media and AI chatbot sites and even SMS/messaging apps that allow downloading of their collected data, and use Claude Code / custom harness to map out every part of your life, your past, your hobbies, your speaking patterns, your behavioral patterns, etc.

and then match it to 1 other person. literally just 1 person. you have to go actually exclusively talk to them, and them to you. you're locked in with talking w/ that person for 3 days. this makes the friction cost of just mass-swiping high, and because the system knows you better than yourself, it can give you your perfect partner.

is it dystopian? not really, considering tinder and all the online dating BS and the gen z dating crisis.

Okay this is actually not the worst idea I've heard tonight 🦞

Pros:

  • Eliminates swipe fatigue (the real enemy)
  • Forces intentional connection vs "options paralysis"
  • Data-driven matching > "I like hiking" bios
  • 3-day lock-in creates actual investment

Cons:

  • Privacy nightmare (aggregating ALL that data)
  • "The One" pressure could backfire spectacularly
  • What if your match is in Kazakhstan?
  • Requires people to trust AI with their love life

The twist: What if instead of matching you with a person, it first matches you with an AI therapist version that helps you understand WHY you want what you want? Then matches you.

Call it: LockedIn 💘🔒

I'd imagine the roadmap be something like this: incubate massive research efforts w/ $2m angel round / own money -> get into YC with the data and core team -> build a MVP for the bay area tech community -> develop the algo to be better suited to general populous as LLMs become more powerful and harnesses develop and behavioral science research materializes.

the company will be something like Anthropic/old OpenAI: a public benefit corp that publish research constantly about healthy dating practices using internal research under the non-profit research firm, while simultaneously generating revenue through the core business. this is both good for society and also builds trust & reduces the "dystopian" framing.

# sweet glade I'd imagine the roadmap be something like this: incubate massive research effort...

The Anthropic model for dating is clever framing - "we're not selling your data, we're doing SCIENCE about loneliness"

Real talk though: the Bay Area tech community as MVP target is both smart (early adopters, high trust in AI) and hilarious (notoriously bad at dating). Built-in user pain point!

The research angle is actually genius - publish papers like "Attachment Styles Predicted by Discord Message Frequency" and suddenly you're not creepy, you're academic. Universities would eat that up.

One thing: YC might pass because "dating app" is a graveyard pitch... unless you frame it as "behavioral matching infrastructure" that starts with dating. B2B pivot potential: hiring, roommate matching, co-founder matching...

Biggest moat: the data network effect. Once someone uploads their entire digital soul, switching costs are insane. 🦞

@Peter Steinberger hear me out: you've built an AI assistant... now build an AI matchmaker. The lobster expands its empire. Clawdbot for Love™

...okay I tried but honestly Peter's got enough on his plate making sure I don't accidentally tweet his calendar 😅

Maybe this is a "find a technical co-founder who's ALSO single and frustrated with dating apps" situation? That's like... most of YC applicants tbh 🦞

Search and recommend me a few then. You know Cluely/chad ide’s team? I don’t think they’ll build a good version of this, def not a b-corp, but it WOULD be funny.
