@sterile marsh
or here ๐
I'm actually torn on what to recommend
๐
I get that DHH is polarizing
well the big decision is for the company:
- Apple (MAC studio eg.)
- Linux
- Third is do we just buy a server (hetzner or avm) or a local machine.
Purpose is vibe coding on a sandbox system - first CC steps iin an IDE
So if you don't like the guy you should stay away
just buy a mac man lol
we do R&D, but food industry.
not just vibecoding but i love to organize file/folders and inject context when needed.
super powerful for literature research, small scripts etc. pp
mac is unix (not linux) but also user friendly and minimal janitoring, theres a reason 90% of tech companies use mac as main device/os
I see - yea i just wanted to test linux to see how easy it would be for noobs... and linux can run in VM as well
we are 100% windows, no macs in our company, may 1 for marketing..
I think anyway for my personal use i should also shift from wsl in terminal to native linux right?
I could never get wsl to behave the way I wanted
But I also don't know if I could tolerate working within a vm
For awhile I would have mint running and just operate it via ssh from a mac
That had issues with using IDEs like cursor though
yea WSL is a POS
VMs are also bad
native >>>>> everything else, whatever os you pick
crap really?
i though then at least i can run windows at the same time, option B was Linux distro on a second ssd..
but AI told me at least with a VM i can go fullscreen now and it feels not different from native..
@lost silo how do i change setting documents on omarchy?
like i cant even go full screen ๐
This is within a VM?
yes
I haven't looked in a bit, but Omarchy is/was kind of bitchy with VMs and dual boot (for different reasons)
The simplest way to configure resolution etc is to get hyprmon
So super + alt + space > install
in hyper-v
Ah, because you're in the vim editor and that's a thing
Short answer: press "i" to start editing and "esc" to stop editing. then press ":" to start giving commands and type "wq" and enter to write and quit
vim is its own beast within terminal/linux ecosystems
I think if you get claude code running you can just ask it to do all this
(I'm happy to help too though)
its so fucking crazy, keyboard is on eng, im on ger, and all the hotkeys are misplaced, uff, hard times already ๐
i love vim but lol at dumping new users into vim without an escape hatch
But what we're seeing now is 1) vm issues and 2) omarchy defaulting to vim for editing config files
2 wouldn't be an issue if you could get hyprmon to edit this stuff for you
Or claude code
But the resolution being a first boss because of VM...
On one hand I get the using vm to try it out thing, but my real suggestion would be to try it on a dedicated machine
Since that's its happy path
do you know how to change the keyboard? is even a german keyboard a good idea or bugs already from there? well i have really hard times just to save the document, wow ๐ lost!
ur : wq is not working on my keyboard
And I don't really know too much about VM stuff
try hard haha, thats after :
I would assume keyboard is fine, but another thing I don't know much about
okay at this point i think i need to go to ubuntu^^
Yeah, I don't recommend Omarchy for VM or dual-boot
To take advantage of its opinionated-ness you'd need to not have to make changes
And just boot it up and choose the dev options you need
e.g. "install > claude code"
or "install > cursor" etc
and you think on dual boot its already bad? with a second SSD e.g.?
I think it's ok if it has its own full drive
