  1. This guy's annoying, I already miss Mow Man.
  2. Bullet trails are terrible and my bullets travel slow.
  3. Gunfire feels too over-animated and hits lack impact.
  4. Gunshots are lacking that sharp pop; they sound too soft.
  5. Excessive menus that keep breaking the flow of gameplay.
  6. Constant annoying cutscenes and some are UNSKIPPABLE.
  7. Cuffing a guy just decides not to work apparently.
  8. I know how to heal, you needn't baby me.
  9. Trying to cuff a guy near exit kicks you from stage.
  10. Zero arcade feel. Might be refund time.

The original Huntdown was phenomenal; it's my all-time favourite arcade shooter! Overtime though? No. This doesn't come close.

Let me adjust my approach to be a little more sensitive.

The thumbs-downs don’t answer anything.

My feedback was specific: slow-feeling bullets, weak gunshot impact, over-animated firing, flow-breaking menus, excessive cutscenes, handholding, and interaction bugs like cuffing near exits kicking me from the stage.

If someone disagrees, fine, provided they can give counterpoints. “I don’t like his phrasing” doesn’t change the fact that Overtime currently lacks the clean arcade immediacy that made Huntdown exceptional.

I’m not posting this to be liked. I’m posting it because the original is one of the best arcade shooters ever made, and Overtime currently doesn’t have that same snap.

TLDR: I made the effort to provide specific first-hour feedback. Zero counterpoints were offered. If the disagreement is with my tone rather than the substance, then the design issues remain unanswered.

Best of luck.

Wow... for the fact that you had to ping all of us just to say that, makes it look like the one who's butt-hurt is you lol

But you want counter points? Sure:

1 - John Sawyer is far from annoying, I agree that I prefer Mow Man, but John Sawyer is still a very cool character. It's mostly down to opinions.

2 - That seems like a you problem... Because I've never had issues with bullet trails being slow

3 - "Over-animated" just feels kinda nitpicky, I don't see that as a problem, but while there are 1 or 2 weapons that could have some more impact compared to the original, it's not that bad.

4 - Depends on which weapons you're using. And I could make a case for the original as well where some weapons also sounded too soft.

5 - I'm guessing you've never played Roguelites before since that's a very common thing for this game genre.

6 - While a valid complaint, still mostly aesthetic and nothing that heavily impacts gameplay. Plus, most cutscenes are still skippable, and those that aren't are very short.

7 - Literally most of us agree that Cuffing could be improved.

8 - Now that just sounds petty on your part. Things like that have to be considered to anyone who might play the game. Just because you're not the one, doesn't make it bad.

9 - Literally never happened to me, I don't know why you'd lead the bounty close to the exit? So in all honesty... That was your own fault.

  1. The Original game was advertized as an Arcade Experience. Overtime's premise and goal is completely different, literally the devs said that since the first teaser that they didn't want this game to be just a carbon copy sequel to the game to overshadow the original. Roguelite =/= Arcade (for the most part). So that's mostly on you for setting your expectations based on the original.

As soon as I saw "butt-hurt" I realized the kind of person I'm dealing with. But for the sake of integrity:

  1. Fine, subjective. If the game's feel gets fixed I'd definitely buy Mow Man DLC

  2. Didn't say trails were slow. Trails are inconsistent and weird; the bullets feel slow.

  3. Nitpicky? Gameplay feel was what made the original one of the best titles ever made.

  4. Proves my point, at least you agree. "They're not all bad though" is a weak defense.

  5. Still weakens the game. Bugs are common in games too, so let's keep those there, right?

  6. That's true. I'll concede this one since it's not that bad, but I figured it's worth a mention.

  7. That's true too and I'm glad that the community has noticed this.

  8. Wrong. Constant button-prompting kills player agency.
For example: imagine a "Press X to shoot him" prompt every time an enemy appears.

  9. Lead him? I followed him there; nice work blaming me for broken game mechanics.

  10. And I suppose being a rogue-lite excuses all of the current tactile flaws? There's nothing wrong with roguelites but the moment-to-moment skill expression and clean immediate feedback just aren't there. How that's my fault I'm not sure since I didn't make the game.

I intentionally brought this feedback here instead of putting it straight into a Steam review because my aim was to contribute toward refinement of the game rather than discourage potential players from buying it. The points I raised were genuine first-hour impressions from someone who genuinely loved the original Huntdown. Do with that what you will.

Bruh I literally said you looked butt-hurt because you resorted to using childish insults towards me and the others you pinged.

But yeah, it seems you already made up your mind that you don't like the game and don't want to support it given you said you already wanted to refund it. Again, that's all on you. I'm definitely still playing the game, because I'm still finding more positive traits than negative ones. But don't make it sound like I'm some toxic positivity guy who ignores any criticism, you can read my brief summary review to see what I pointed out.

And also unlike you, I was able to understand something that the Devs have stated from the very start with Overtime. It's purpose was NEVER to surpass the original game, but rather for it to stand on it's own two legs alongside the original, hence why I understand why they are going with this direction. You may not like it, and that's fine, but it is what it is. I don't care if the Original or Overtime is better, both have their pros and cons, and I just wanna enjoy some more Huntdown after around 6 years of nothing after the original game.

-This guy's annoying, I already miss Mow Man.
That's understandable. I too wish they could've brought back everyone.

-Bullet trails are terrible and my bullets travel slow.
You mean slower in comparison to the first game or in general? I find most travel at a speed I expect. I will admit, I'm not a fan for how a gun like the light smg has a mix of bullets/trails, compared to how the hand guns have one type of bullet and trail coming out

-Gunfire feels too over-animated and hits lack impact.
Will have to disagree with that, differences in impact depending on gun seem ok (or I'm just used to it and/or don't notice it, will try to pay attention next round)

-Gunshots are lacking that sharp pop; they sound too soft.
Same as above.

-Excessive menus that keep breaking the flow of gameplay.
The main meus that would pop up during gameplay would be Mainframe Upgrades, Mod Stations, Shops/BlackMarket. If I'm missing any, let me know. I could see perhaps Mainframe Upgrades (after a couple of times) having just an overlay with three icons that appear allowing you to choose. I will say that one issue I had with Mainframe Upgrades is the inability to check stats and/or cancel it.

-Constant annoying cutscenes and some are UNSKIPPABLE.
Before or during runs? The during runs is standard based on the first game, a quick intro then right into it

-Cuffing a guy just decides not to work apparently.
I know that the early demo before Early Access had some bugs with it that the team is aware of. Game also doesn't communicate that you need to mash the button as opposed to hold. Someone suggested having a hold option that works (but is slower) compared to mash and that seems like a good compromise
