some switches are so heavy your going to die trying to burst

while some are so light that your going to die in any map involving unwanted clicks

regarding laptop keyboards, they’re usually scissor switches. It’s what I really like for taiko (hence why the normal keyboards I get are usually always scissor switches)

my keypad that I use for standard has speed silver mech switches though. Both very easy to bottom out and I like that

was doing like 270bpm streams with my keyboard, and my laptop’s built in keyboard allowed for the same-

though if you get a shitty laptop, the polling rate might be dog 💀

While you’re only clicking two buttons with your mouse, you’re also using that entire hand to move and adjust the mouse. All sorts of micro adjustments are made in the process that helps build good control of your fingers, which just leads to much better dexterity as a whole I feel, I dunno

And that doesn’t include all the other fine motor movements you do with your dominant hand on a daily basis. Things even like eating with utensils, there’s a huge difference in feeling of control between the two hands in my experience

the other 50% is from bonus score which changes depending on this dumb multiplier that changes depending on what judgements youve been getting

hit bonus is limited to a range of 0 to 100:
320 adds 2 to hit bonus
300 adds 1 to hit bonus
200 takes 8 from hit bonus
100 takes 24 from hit bonus
50 takes 44 from hit bonus
a miss takes away the entire hit bonus

its basically combo except not tied to combo

and its capped and it also can decrease without resetting

sort of. mania has the same highest end of od for every map, the scoring is simply pointless and awful, actually comboing means nothing, and the way 4k/7k/really any key count is handled is terrible

mania exists in this weird limbo where it clearly doesn't want to be anything close to the other gamemodes but peppy never actually want the full way of making it "etterna but more accessible"

i do get the idea that most of its flaws were intentional though

at least the way it's always seemed to me was that mania was sort of the result of elitist classic vsrg players looking down on osu as a whole and peppy trying to cater to them specifically

the out of 1,000,000 max score, the custom scroll rates, the incredibly weird judgments, removal of combo as even a real concept for the gamemode, all that jazz

personally i really think the scoring is what always irks me the most
