Since mounts are unlikely to fully replace many builds in transportation (Warp, Idol cspam, DaTS), it may throw off an incentive to spend time with them at all.
If they became little vanity pets that could wander around in housing then it may be a good reason to invest in to them if you're bored or something. The system could be expanded upon by making behaviours unlocked with higher potentials.
