I just finished the Burning Bonds quest, and I'm kinda confused by the ending: so the Abramod that we accompanied throughout the quest was a changeling all along?

If that's the case, why attack us instead of just walking into Aldwell with the medallion? I mean, sure, it senses the player as a threat, but I assumed its purpose was to infiltrate human settlements, and that would've gone better if it just stayed incognito

As a follow up to this, come to think of it, while the changeling knows where the materials are and how they made, they still needed our help for certain things like differentiating between healthy and dead branches, healthy and dead plants, going through a windy tunnel, etc.

nothing says they have poor eyesight lol
i think they should make the story that it's abramod the whole time until the very end, when a changeling (who has been spying on us the whole time) replaces him to get the finished product

Actually, before making this thread, I did theorize that Abramod might've been ambushed and replaced by a changeling near the end, possibly between the wind tunnel challenge and the medallion carving one

in my feedback post i almost made that the case (its kinda the best time for it to happen) but then it still doesnt make sense why this changeling would know how to carve the medallion

Checked out the feedback post (it's here https://discord.com/channels/143852930036924417/1494537451069378570 for anyone else who wants to read) and I like your idea of the changeling stalking Abramod to steal the medallion
Heck, there doesn't need to be an extra step: the changeling can ambush Abramod just as he's thanking you for your help, only for it to realize you witnessed it gank the guy, which triggers the boss fight
