#My (mixed) thoughts on the mount system

Mounts are meant to be useful companions to help you traverse the world, and are to grow stronger the more effort you put into them. This is the fundamental basics of what mounts are, however the way they have been implemented has been less than well received overall.

First and foremost. The way mounts have been implemented is heavily timegated. Now while it makes sense that it would take a while to feed and breed your mounts, it takes an absurdly long time to feed your mounts after the first few times. It appears to be based on limit, which means after you have fed your mount enought to breed, every feed for that mount and its offspring will be 6 hours. And while the amount of each stat given by materials has been raised, it is not nearly enough to compensate for 6 hours of downtime.

Now it has been explicitly stated by the wynn team that it is that long because they intend for you to interact with the mount system once a day. In my opinion, that is an extremely poor excuse to give people more reasons to log on daily, when most who play long term will already for lootrun and raid daily bonuses. Imagine being told you can only do a raid orlootrun once every 6 hours, or collect 10 items from the outer void per day. Even if it isnt meant to be main content, let those who really enjoy it play it more than once a day, for longer periods of time to make up for days they have less time to play.

In a way that's similar to annihilation, being unable to feed a horse or breed a horse as soon as it is ready feels like a huge deal. It feels like missing annihilation and having to wait 3 days for the next one. I have already heard multiple complaints from people that their mounts will be ready to breed when they are occupied with other things, so if you make the feeding shorter, you allow breeding to take place in downtime, and there is less stress on the player to have to be on top of feeding as they wont loose 6 hours due to having a life. This is mainly an issue for rank-less players who only have 2 slots to feed their mounts.

Feeding taking 6 hours also breaks up the training either by running out of energy or reaching your limit long before the feeding raises it. Now I am someone who enjoys being efficient so I level my mounts stats while they are being fed, but in the time it takes to feed one material I have raised all 5 of my mounts to the new limit from the last food in under an hour. Then I am just stuck waiting for the next stat's limit to be raised, rinse, repeat. My suggestion would be to cap feeding time at an hour, for early potentials, say till 1000, then maybe increase it to no more than 2 hours from beyond that. That way a decent mount can be achieved fairly easily by the average player, and those who want to grind further can have a bit more time gating to really show the difference in effort.

My main issues with the timegated system is tied to feeding, not as much breeding. While feeding can never really have a negative impact on a mount, breeding leads to an irreversible potentially detrimental change if you dont correctly breed two mounts with very similar potential. The breeding time being far longer than feeding would make sense for breeding in my opinion, showcasing to the player how much more important breeding is in the process, so while 6 hours is long, it is not a priority to be changed.

An issue I do have with the breeding system currently is how the offspring inherits the parents visual traits. I would love if it wasnt a random chance, especially after I spent a long time trying to get the exact rare colour I want. I would add a system where if you place a parent horse on the left when breeding the offspring will gain the primary colour of that parent, and the secondary colour of the parent in the right slot. This isnt ultimately as important as the timegated issues stated above but still of note for those who spent stx on a base level mystic wyvern only to breed it to have it turn ito a azure wyvern.

The training system is in a bit of a weird spot right now for me, I really enjoy going around and collecting the nodes, however I have been running into an issue where eventually only a few stats will be available no matter where I go, especially annoying if it is a stat I dont need. The only way I've found that works to cycle them is collecting them despite not needing them, which isn't a huge issue while on high energy, but when I'm lower on energy it is really frustrating. I end up having to switch to a random mount to work through the abundance of some stats and get back to a full pool. If they could just always offer a wide variety of node types that would be good, and maybe if you dont take a node it would switch within the next 5 minutes so when I come back its not just the same boost node I'm still not needing. Alternatively if it would be possible to not be offered a stat you have already gotten to the limit, that would be ideal, but that might be technically difficult to implement.

I had some issues regarding how altitude works with wyverns, but it seems those issues have already started being resolved like the gliding being improved or worked on like flying over the void so I wont mention them here. Thank you for listening to your community wynn team!

In terms of how mounts look and their animations, 10/10 they are incredible, artists you have done a wonderful job, they look and feel very satisfying to ride, including the sound design of the flapping of wings and galloping hooves. I have no criticism for the visual aspects of the mounts, and hope we will get some interesting mount skins in the future!

In conclusion, mounts are a really cool concept, however the execution of them was a bit hit and miss in some aspects, and I hope that this feedback helps in future improvements for the health content regarding mounts. All this feedback comes from someone who really wants to use the mount system a lot and really looked forward to them being released.

Yeah the excuse they gave for the time gates content felt like something EA would write.

balmy grove
#

cause they're shared across all classes

#

they also added a dimension to reality of animals

#

but like, it's too much for an mmorpg, and it's also out of scope

#

again i think this is gonna change for the better

Like why would you use a mount that you can only use for the 10% of the game

u can skip it by buying it off others for le

u can skip that part, and the rest of people who wanna interact with it can play their own dragon city emulator

Dudd you can't upgrade the fact that you can only use it in the literal end if the game

maybe i misinterpreted it

again it kinda goes against playing the quest and the playthrough and everything, for no apparent reason

from 105-120 there's a lot to do

and u can still skip all that

  • mounts were meant for end game content mostly

warring on parts of the map, flying long distances for perks

#

ing grinding on very weird builds

but again i see ur point, there's no reason to level cap it either
