Simply have a fade in out screen that teleports you to the coordinates of a deep ocean
I always figured they’d just have more pockets of black to make an abyssal ocean from there. Ik sarnfic is below the ocean, though, so there’s definitely some more space to work with down there, just for a bit more immersion/visible depth
Currently, the ocean we have falls off super quickly by the coast. It definitely would match a more hostile setting, though, if the tales of the ocean before have any merit to them

You may be able to simulate fog with stained glass… except for the lines outlining the block.

Fog, whether through some magical shader, custom entity, or hand-built gradient, would be another great idea for it. Just some way to give an illusion of depth
