I'm fairly sure it worked like this up until the most recent update, and it would be nice if that functionality was readded, since there's no reason pet and guild xp should be mutually exclusive.

my main class has had guild xp 100 on permanently for years and I've never noticed pets not leveling up on it

With guild xp 100 no xp goes through you. It is sent directly to the guild

And since you are gaining 0 xp, the pet is also gaining 0 xp
