second bit of progress made. while i tried making it so the health bar could be made of multiple lines mashed together, that obviously didn't happen
the (almost) final setup for the battlefield. a few things were adjusted afterwards like slightly positioning the box and buttons
the first iteration of blasters and the concept for moving the soul.
i won't explain in THAT much detail but essentially i have a big interaction hitbox and the soul can move within it, but not outside of it
with the introduction of key input detection (WASD, jump, sprint, and sneak), i made the soul able to be moved while the player is locked inside an armor stand
using the same key input detection, i created the options menu with A and D used to move left and right, jump to select, and sprint to return/deselect
how i BELIEVE it will end up working is there will be a timer set for each attack, and the "in_buttons" tag will be applied to the player once it is over, letting them use their buttons.
however, due to the difficulty of the project, the only actually functional option will be the "endless dream" item, which heals randomly between 3-5 health. all other options are basically cosmetic, but look cool as fuck

forgot to mention that timed background system is getting scrapped entirely
(no pun intended)
but basically because we're given turns, it'd be better for me to make it where music is based on the current attack (eg. the first turn is that intense beginning portion, but the first attack is the eerie gaster theme portion right after)
but it would allow me to trigger the background at a more impactful moment
I gotta know more- hell, even see what you mean about this.. cos that sounds like a pretty solid concept so far!
a lot of games do it actually
for example, the old disbelief ones from 2017, call of the void, or even more recently, necroptosis from sp!dusttale (specifically azzy's take)

i know the flavor text needs fixing. it's more about just changing how fast the box interpolates and when the text appears
this whole video is basically a test to find the easiest way to set up attacks and attack events (how long they are, what appears when and where, making sure the soul goes back to the menu, etc.)
i made this surprisingly modular. to make an attack, all i need to do is set how long the attack will be, set what attack it's for, and create the attacks that appear within that time

i feel it would add to the eerieness by just keeping him silent
but i'm considering having some flavor text betwen attacks be replaced with cryptic dialogue
or maybe he speaks during an attack and the dialogue falls and becomes the attack or smth
but for the most part i'll be keeping him silent
will be all the more disturbing when i add my idea the battle
(which will also make coming up with attacks easier)

unfortunately, this will be my LAST update post on this. soon, when i'm done with the attacks, i'll be asking for some help and it'll be ready for public release

shit took way longer than it should've, but playtesting is open now
here's the final attack currently in the beta build of the map
the only reason i'm showing this is because i've already scrapped basically the entire attack since it's too easy and it sucks ass. one of my playtesters has already given suggestions to improve it and add more attack types
that said, the video still shows spoilers for the general idea of the final attack, so proceed with caution
i'm actually considering changing the song to "penumbra phantasm" because covers of that song actually exist and their creators probably don't have their accounts compromised like luna does rn lmao, so i can actually contact them
it also just makes more sense thematically

which is probably why the attack patterns suck ass
but the beta's more about if everything works anyways
and also why it's getting beta tested in the first place so ican get suggestions for new/better attacks
