#Fuck it, I'm bored enough to do this

There are 3 types of people we need to consider.
-
New player who wants a build, but is unwilling to try and learn the tool, and just wants a premade build
-
New player who wants a build, is willing to try and learn the tool, but will settle for a premade build
-
New player who wants a build, and wants to learn the tool to make a custom build
3 will perservere no matter what, and 1 will not even try. Looking at this from a goal of wanting the most people using the tool, 2 is the most important group to focus on.
2 represents a group of people who all have different breaking points, so our goal should be to smooth as many pain points as possible in order to maximize the ease of use for this tool.
My proposal, while adding a bit of mental math that needs to be done, would ultimately make the UI more readable, as the input field would match exactly how you would input skill points in game while still displaying necessary information for buildcrafting.
Oh!
one tweak to my design idea
add a "gear stats" section
[input field]
Gear:
Total:
Original:
using this as an example
[105]
Gear: 25
Total: 130
Original: 130
This still has the flaw of not properly representing that in normal play, you can only assign 100 points to any given stat
Perhaps instead of displaying "Original", displaying "Necessary" would help alleviate this issue
This would be the display in the scenario that caused this block to generate. I.e. Olympic (Agility rec: 105) was added to a build with no other gear
[100]
Gear: 25
Total: 125
Minimum Total: 130
This tells the user that 100 points need to be assigned and that 5 more points need to be added from another piece of gear in order for this build to work.
assume a second piece of gear is added to the build, which gives + 10 Agility
the new block would generate as the following:
[100]
Gear: 35
Total: 135
Minimum Total: 130
Could also make either the "Total" or "Minimum Total" turn red/green depending on if the Total is equal to or higher than the Minimum total, in order to quickly show if there is an issue with the build
Anyhoo, I've yapped for long enough, if you read all of this, I respect you and give you permission to 🤓 react me. I probably deserve it.
WAIT
IT'S NOT MORE MATH
In the current design, in order to add points up to a specific number, you have to do the math of the difference between the Input field and the Assign field if you want to know how many points are from gear
And obviously you still have to do the basic math of getting from one number to another
in this example I have 50 points left to assign. If I want to put them all into Int, I still have to add 60 + 50
and also make sure that adding 50 doesn't go over 100 assigned points
in my proposed design, the only mental math is adding skill points to the input field and figuring the difference between Total and Min Total
It's the same amount of math, but the interface is more new-user friendly, as it better aligns with the in game system of adding skill points
wait no it doesn't Wynncraft also doesn't display user added points and gear points separately
Studying UX has ruined my brain
I will never be able to stop seeing these things
I'ma stop now cuz I have a headache
dammit I cant tell u where to send these suggestions cuz no inv links
but
theres a dedicated discord server for this tool
its not an inhouse thing
check the website
cuz its made by hppeng and ferricles not the wynncraft team
wait do you think it's actually worth?
yeah, was just relevant to the conversation and I was bored so I UXed in a thread lmao
some def are
also a tool more similar to what ur suggesting used to exist
wynndata.tk was an older tool
with much better ui
but it stopped being maintained
pre 2.0
so now its basically unusable due to being too outdate
outdated
ah
