I can't walk you through every single little thing he thought but with how much he was going around testing things in the creation of the AT and how much other people tested I can guarantee you this is intentional and tested
all I can ask for is something that reinforces the playstyle and crowd control for boltslinger as a whole 🥹

storm flight is where the DPS spell becomes mobility spell and you kinda lose out on crowd control or AoE damage
I think all 3 archetypes should at least have some level of crowd control

isn't bolt supposed to be like fire a million arrows for high damage close range
but one of the archetype defining abilities ((angels)) deletes your useful defense utility for ranged angels with 2 damage
the other ((((arrow hurricane)) has kb so you can't strafe at all using it until you get elusive

I never care that much about DPS
I just want more engaging ways to interact with the game
all abilities can improve your close-quarter combat capabilities but none of them effectively deals with crowds
this is the biggest flaw of the archetype given that you are meant to approach enemies a lot to effectively dispatch them which means taking risks
shrapnel bomb is in bolt tree no? thats cc and u can also get bouncing bomb and arrow rain but no one cares abt arrow rain
sharpnel is cc LOL
bouncing bomb is incredibly effective and can practically double your bomb dps
but that's the most you can get

i mean imo those things are good enough, bolt also gets frenzy and stormy feet and angels help build frenzy and higher ws means ur able to deal with crowds a lot easier
shrapnel is pretty good honestly, it has like infinite pierce or smth
I think those only help avoid death not directly helpful for dispatching enemies
isn't it like in the archetype description that bolt focuses on single target dps

asking for cc on it is just going against the archetype's original intent
more ws means u get to get up closer to whatever crowd ur dealing with without dying so u can arrow storm it and kill probably at least 1 mob which thins up the crowd which is dispatching it

don't you think it's weird that both crep ray and grapple rely on your relation to the terrain but both can be used at the same time
using grappling hook can block you out of crep ray usage if you don't have heights to climb to with grappling hook or simply cannot jump high
crep ray sucks for another reason there's no need to bring it up for lootruns

the way i think of it is just whirlwind in an upprcut cycle without suring (aerodynamics)

-geyser stomp should probably scale with falling distance (flying is more useful now)

if crep ray were to deal AoE damage it would be true but it's a wonder how the visuals would be handled
maybe crep ray would constantly cast a lot of rays and we should pretent it's a giant beam
instead of having crep ray cast many separate beams
or just make those rays cause a shockwave let them hit all targets within a small sphere of space
landing more hits by hovering closer would effectively increase AoE damage

tbf it’s kind of necessary for gangels to exist since otherwise you’d have a spell that knocks enemies back on the archetype designed to be in mobs’ faces to deal maximum damage
if it has a bigass hitbox like tna so you can still be out of arrow shield range yeah you’d probably prefer that but still

Arrow shield would be somewhat tolerable on bolt because activating normal arrow shield causes arrow storm to spawn the arrows further out...until you cast arrow shield again without breaking or otherwise losing it first
No idea why it does that if you recast it but I reported it as a bug some time ago
I don't remember if the offset feels like it gives more range or less before hitting your shield compared to avoiding enemies hitting you without it

Has anyone tried to perform storm flight after the CPS limit change?
It'd be really funny if it actually becomes unviable
the cps needed for cycling storm and another spell within the duration of storm is 7.5 so it should still be possible
(6 inputs / 0.8 seconds)
Funnily enough a lot of Archer builds are around 6.5-7.5 cps so we shouldn’t see that much of a difference in Archer dps lmao

But I do recall experiencing an abnormal amount of misinputs with flying bolt for the brief period I was online yesterday so I think this had an effect

being fast with high single target damage is kind of what archer has always been, for boltslinger especially so

got an idea for something which could allow an ability point investment to give bolt more aoe: if Grape Bomb was accessible to bolt, you would also be incentivized to pick up Tangled Traps, which has no trapper requirement besides Basaltic Trap despite being so far down the tree, resulting in more bomb explosions, more shrapnel, and a dps ability that covers a large area being available to bolt
I think you're significantly overestimating how strong tangled traps is

bomb explosions and shrapnel would be the bigger part
but tangled would be an extra 200% spell multiplier per second to enemies that happen to be inside it so its not nothing
shrapnel is definitely doing the heavy lifting in that idea
I just think overall it would be a neat combo of abilities to help bolt with aoe
and I feel the ability point investment would be pretty fair
there is very little control over their positioning unless you don't pick grape bomb and bouncing bomb?

it wasn't bad at all. it was annoying that all the enemies had arrow storm and flew above you, but even with a trapper AT I had no trouble dispatching them, including the boss

but I wasn't having any issue taking down any of the enemies, boss included
and I specifically hunted down purple beacons to amp up curses

I had zero boons
and I hadn't taken inner peace either, so curses were full-effective

I don't do lootruns often so I don't really have a scale but I had a harder time with warrior on some SE challenges in testing than I did with trapper on the comet

and RNG made it so that the challenge didn't come up except towards the end of the run as well, so stats had scaled notably
took me a little while to find it
as I said, and as you could have read, it was annoying that the majority mobs, aside from the Weirds I made, boiled down to "floating arrow storm dude"
but I didn't have difficulty killing em

the issue isn't necessarily about survivability of the player
it's more about how it can get ridiculously time-consuming in some cases because of the fact that traps are not interacting with the boss at all
I don't know how you would think it's fine that the main gimmick of the archetype is not actively useable in a situation that can be repeated
well, idk then. dunno what builds yall're using but they're probably a hell of a lot better han mine given I'm using Nether's Reach as my chestplate
but I had no trouble as trapper dealing with that challenge
I am not sure but I can have runs where I can't even get rainbow beacon after 25+ challenges are done
I had 0 issues with Astralus when I played sharpshooter
I think that is enough to highlight how traps not detonating at all because the enemy can just float above it and be immune to crowd control ability would bring down the player experience
why give the CCI to begin with? they never needed CCI
I think hellbreakingloose has a point here, as easy as the challenge might be for u, idt it should be pretty much an exact counter to ur whole archetype
plus aren't there other challenges in SI that have primarily floating mobs, like the one with all the birds

and it's ridiculous how it can be argued that just because there's an instance where he managed to finish a challenge can be a good argument against my point when the testing ground is heavily invovled with RNG
everything that does KB has upwards KB, and if the mobs are flying(that is to say, have 0 gravity) any upwards knockback will make them fly upwards infinitely and go out of reach.
so they must have knockback immunity to work
maybe give the illusion that they fly but have them not actually fly
and make an invisible platform for both the players and enemies to stand on
an instance where I easily finished a challenge when I specifically hunted down ways to make the challenge harder and avoided self-buffs

there are different types of curses

that means it could have probably been harder
I got primarily mob resistance and attack speed curses
I think one movement speed one
and it also depends on the number of challenges you have
it also helps that you have a probably tankier build so it matters less that you cannot dispatch of enemies quicker
now you're contradicting yourself. I had no difficulty killing the enemies.
I think this challenge is one of those that become more and more notable as the lootrun goes on, especially with equilibrium
as trapper, with most of my kit on the ground where they didn't take damage from it.
it still doesn't take away the fact that you have not mentioned the number of challenges you had and there is still room for more difficulty handed over to the player by the game
It feels like at some point the mobs overlap their arrowstorms so the platform is just constant being pelted and u pretty much can’t move at all
I am sure it is infinitely worse if you don't have the fortune to get equilibirum and must grind for a lot of blues to not be ill-prepared
it is worth noting that it's infinitely easier to buff the enemies than to buff yourself

“End of the run” isn’t the most clear statement, does that mean end of the starting 12 challenges or end of 100 challenges or just near however many challenges u have (mb if it was mentioned somewhere and I didn’t see)

yes and it made me realize that my hyrbid build doesn't even need twain's arc because of the way loot runs are
I ended up only throwing in random normal attacks betweem spells to sustain damage output and charge up quake attacks
That's not a hybrid build that's just normal spellspam gameplay 
over 130k damag from quake eith full focus doesn't sound like spell to me
melee archer just isn't that viable anyways

Many have argued that TNA is not that good in design for how it favors ETW gameplay a lot but not playing ETW makes everything feel slower or punishing even. (Having fast runs lead to far greater profits and there is very little to stop players from playing ETW and not engaging with many mechanics of the boss fight)
I think my previous issues with twain's arc usage might actually be more of a mobility problem cuz grappling hook was used (and I don't use leap unlike you but I doubt it'd be very useful)
No matter how flawed it is TNA is the other endgame activity that people will gravitate towards, and is much more accessible than Lootruns because virtually every class can function well in TNA

Warrior just does everything Archer wants to do but better
like meteor, once you shoot a projectile you should just be able to shoot another one without the first one disappearing for no reason

there isn't a point in game where it is actually more efficient to spam bombs at range and not expect enemies to dodge the bombs

the worst part about all this is that being able to deal ranged damage means very little in endgame
boltslinger effective range and cone for hitting all arrow storm arrows could be buffed
shaman also has superior ranged attacks by default
but considering salted is keen on keeping recoil he’d never do it
Boltslinger has more range than Phantom Ray could ever hope to have if you use Nighthawk, which is just depressing

They may be cooking in the shadows but no one knows because the CT cannot leak future update information or give the slightest hint that they are working towards a good direction.

The worst problem I have ever seen out of archer might just be the fact that getting grappling hook can effectively hinder your combat maneuver.
But, there is very little control in the effects of rocket jump. (There are times when you do not need to be thrown around by your own attacks.)
Walk backwards is only really useable in TNA, almost everywhere else it harms Bolt
Even in TNA if someone else has aggro it can hurt you
None of that matters when you get into situations where you fight stat check bosses in ridiculously small arenas

something I recall from that thread that I remember sticking with me was along the lines of "sharpshooter is more about precision than range" which contradicts the description of the archetype itself, but feels like a necessity for the damage spell sharp is allowed to do
Personally I think it would be cool if there was an ability or two to support a more heavy spell playstyle for sharp to let it be either effectively (precision and very high damage or precision and range)
twain's arc is the best ability that reinforces a heavy attack playstyle alongside crep ray
I actually think they are the best abilities in the entire kit other than the focus gimmick
the other sharpshooter nodes are very shallow and are effectively just damage buffs
they're the only abilities that actually lean into the advertized range and power shots so they're the most fitting
spell sharp is weird for the archetype
I really love how my recent SE lootrun attempt with how I actively took advantage of crepescular ray
crep ray offers great tactical advantage
but there are designs in the game that are very hostile to usage of such ability (thanks to anti camp and enemies being able to drag the player around so much)

crazy how this much ehp doesn't save me from shotgun attacks
Don’t use Crep ray, legit puts you in more danger even if it’s okay aoe

but keep escape the way it is for the most part
