I've been thinking about this for a while, why does wynncraft use right and left clicks to input spells? It was charming at first, really feeling like doing magic, but seeing as many lategame builds try to spam spells as fast as possible it makes me reluctant to ever do spell builds (i don't want to use macros or break my hands).
An option I thought about was using inventory slots, and I want to pitch that idea a bit, even thought i'm sure it was considered at some point.
Currently we have 6 hotbar slots available, and it is rare to see more than 4 of them used by players. Thanks to the leaked info that Fruma will remove the soul points, content book, and the compass (could just place them in the main inventory), that would leave us with 5+ slots that could be used for spells.
Selecting the weapon would work the same way, but then pressing a designated button for a spell-reserved slot would switch you back to the weapon (could maybe be done through 'eating' the input, so powder specials and spells don't despawn), followed up by the spell cast.
This would make spells smoother, cycle out the need for mods/macros, give more room to add activatable abilities (no longer limited by 4 slots), and improve new player experience.
I think it would also be easier to expand on this system in the future than on the current one, which might open wynncraft to much more advanced and flexible ability trees and as such greater build diversity.

also just the geometry of using WASD mouse, and 789 (spell casting keys I would assume) would not work unless u got 3 hands
using numbers to spam spells would feel so bad.. i'd much rather some more standard keys like Q R T FG etc
what if after selecting a slot it:
remembers what weapon you are using, since you stay on that slot
activates the ability once
right-clicking (or left for archer) attempts to re-cast the same spell
they are bindable, same as macros

i feel like an easier solution would be in built macros that work like artemis but maybe a bit smoother so they dont break if u try to spam too much
Also I'd like to add that this is harder for your fingers. Your hand is already on your mouse/trackpad to input right and left clicks, but using numpad requires you to use your WASD hand which is

good idea, however i think the game is far too fletched out for that
monumenta uses a different system where rclick, drop, offhand swap, shift+leftclick, look at enemy and rclick, look down and rclick all trigger different spells

I mean, this might not be possible in current Wynncraft but it sure is possible
Couple years back I played on a server called Potterworld, which was essentially a Harry Potter-themed server
Clicking the wand you have with you immediately replaces the other 8 slots with spell icons as items, which you can than tap your number keys to select the spells
The game then immediately forces the selection back to your wand slot after with the chosen spell now picked
Point is it's a very possible mechanic should Wynncraft choose to code it in

That being said, I'm not fond of this suggestion
I've played the server in question for ages, and I can personally confirm that it is an absolute pain to press number keys constantly during battle
Especially the number keys furthest from the WASD keys
That seems vastly annoying, such a system would require wand tap with mouse, spell select on num and then cast, no less action per spell
While needing a less ergonomic movement, no less
Not to mention, numpads are FAR from universal on people's keyboards. Now its very common for keyboard to not have numpad and only numrow, and thats not even mentioning the myriad of peeps who play on laptop keyboards, while a mouse is plenty universal in a game such as this
Yeppers, it only works in other MMOs because they either have mouse based movements, or big GCD between spell/ability casts
The former is not applicable to Minecraft in general, and the ltter runs counter to the general design space of spellwork in Wynncraft
Fundamentally it us not a bad idea at all, is just that the suggestion for implementation thus far all seems suboptimal or infeasible
Honestly you’d be surprised by how mobile you can be in an MMO with number based keys

The left-right click spell system is probably the result of back then having less options for spells
i think its more fun that way anyway

Ive always felt wynn combat being awkward since spells doesnt have cooldowns
But in other servers with the hotbar system it feels really good for me
