i had a lot more i wanted to do for profs but they got shot down unfortunately

we wanted to do crafting writs and a boost to crafting xp as well as some other stuff
like the only way I see gathering being salvageable is a fundamental rework
crafting is fine but the numbers are a thing

i think the problem with profs is like
I've had a couple of mock up ideas that I never really got around to with anywhere but just like. ok, at the very least you should be able to move around and ride a horse while gathering, that should be bare minimum
its just too much
the fact you have to just stand perfectly still and then a mob knocks you half a block which stops the progress is just awful
you cant fit in that much replayability into all that without making it like an entirely different minigame in of itself
it still wouldnt be fun but like it could maybe be more tolerable
yea one thing i wanted to was like weekly mega nodes
for each profession every ten levels
doesnt fix
the fundamental issue
of gathering being like
not engaging
like, I'd want profs to be like, a core (though still optional) part of the game, but I don't think they're supposed to be anything more than an mmo time waster to keep people logged on and to sell bombs
I would love NOTHING more than to play craftsman over and over (ok it would get old EVENTUALLY) but even doing it once is a miserable experience because the experience is mostly just standing still waiting for nodes to gather
yea i mean as someone who was around on ct when profs were still being added i genuinely think profs were just thought up by jp to inflate playtime for people that want to 100%

ignoring the part where you have to then grind for a fkton of trash ingreds to level up, and then some good ingreds you actually wanna use for crafting are like, a headache to get
especially since while there sure are a lot of ingreds, there usually arent many different options
like if I want mana regen before endgame, what am I gonna use? bottled fairy or bottled fairy?

like i think the ideal of crafting in being able to make any item you want is realized but only at the very very end of the game

I don't think I've EVER seen the rare mob. it spawns in roots of corruption right
maybe the issue with profs isnt that it takes so long to get to max level
the issue is that profs are meaningless unless you have max level

wynn progression is too fast to justify spending like an hour to get ingredients for a level 70 crafted chestplate
basically guaranteed
the brown mob has extremely awkward spawn locations

wynn's gameplay loop was not built for something as long as professions

like. you are supposed to log on, decide what you want to do for 20mins, decide if you want to go on, etc etc
on the walls of roots of corruption theres these small indents/cracks/caves where they spawn
one of the big rules in terms of adding new stuff to the gameplay loop is
can't take longer than 20mins
you need to have the chance to log off every ~20mins
including quests?
and still feel accomplished
longer quests are sort of an exception but generally yes
me doing ahc in 20 minutes
item guide says these are the spots for soul corrupter
I also spent like an hour killing nether wights with lvl 100 lb/lq stuff and didnt get a drop

but w profs you just don't feel any accomplishment unless you either craft something super powerful and good or level up a prof
well maybe I'll manage to ever find the mob in the future. maybe. it's still a massive downgrade compared to bottled fairy but like. better than nothing
and levelling up a prof takes SO FUCKING LONG
like even at level 40-50ish

closer to 5. but it still feels like forever
i did all my woodcutting w/o gxp and no prof bombs until like level 70ish
it felt endless when i did it
at the beginning of 1.18
and w crafting it's like
for me the tipping point is lvl 50+
true you get more xp now
getting crafteds to be adequately strong enough and worth grinding through professions while not completely destroying the game is like

yeah and that's the thing, other than at endgame your reward for leveling your gatherings and craftings for another 10 levels is. nothing
in an ideal world it would be like
anyone can craft anything but you need to get the ingredients
and levelling up profs just enhances the stats or something

I threw around an idea of removing gathering levels altogether when 1.18 was new
thats kinda how it works now tho
tie tools to combat level and just, get rid of gathering levels entirely
no you still have to level up crafting profs to even be able to craft with good ingredients
you can craft at lvl 1 crafting lvl
and ALL the good ingredients are locked past level 80 - 100
unless its bottled fairy
then its locked past your sanity

idk why 0* and 1* ingreds are so limited in what they can be used
why can I not make armor or cook or whatever with rotten flesh

highly doubt 0* or 1* items break any balance by being more widely usable
i always have to quadruple check to make sure that i got it right
0* ingreds especially, I feel could just legit be globally always usable in every crafting
every single one
and I don't see how the game'd be worse for it
the only thing that needs to be done is add a -durability or duration depending on which one the item doesnt have yet
i genuinely think a component based crafting system would be infinitely better than what we've currently got but unfortunately it'd break every existing crafted

the checkmark turns out red 99% of the time I try to craft something cause theres always some stupid restriction that I forgot would prevent me from crafting the item
its so annoying
every class of weapon would have a certain amount of components, like a bow would have bowstring and a back and a limb, you could mix and match, and since there's much fewer possible slots for ings/materials, each one has much more effect on the final product
could even open up an avenue to major ids on crafteds
but ofc that's basically fanfiction atp
