#The Pokemon Thread because Fleega asked for it

i am going to go finish the game later today
niiiice
i have made it to the final area now
the last segment of the story was actually pretty cool
I'm gonna have to try it
i just wish they would stop making you catch the box art legendary AFTER the pokemon league
I havent played a Pokemon game since X and Y
imagine using legendaries anyway
also here's a "spoiler alert" for you, using the legendary is heeella inconvenient
at least you dont get eternatus this time
because when you use it to travel, it gets removed from the party
you can however get the other 4 if you hate yourself enough
when you have to open the menu and click two buttons to re-enable it as an usable mon
I can't wonder if that's something they did to discourage you from using it lol
probably not, but eh
they should make it so that you can ride it when its in your party too
I almost never use legendaries anyway
the one exception I've made is for uh
one of the swords of justice in black
the only one which's name I can't remember, lols
is the rock one
i wish the game actually gave you some kind of way to find the stakes
for the legendaries
I wish it wasnt mandatory to finish the "teacher storylines" so to say
instead of just "they are in this quadrant of the map have fun"
its mandatory?
in case you dont know what I'm talking about, by taking the classes at the academy u can interact with the teachers and they have their own little things
yes, you cant finish history teacher without doing it
yeah ive done those
she's just sitting in the hall going
"I do hope you will take on the hunt for the treasures of ruin if you are so inclined"
i think she just marks their tombs on your map
yeah
she doesn't become a future teacher
yeah she hates the future in violet
yeah I guess none of the characters change aside from prof
and like, clavell's outfit
the first I found was near the bird titan and I had no clue what it was
it was just on a pillar surrounded by a convenient circular ravine
i found mine in cascaffara
not too far from a lvl 50 jolteon
I find it strange that like, those special eeveelutions even exist
like it'd make sense to me if you couldnt find them in the wild
speaking of eeveelutions
because every eevee would be normal tera type
but you can, and they're everywhere
but then again I also found a lvl 75 lucario so idfk
||penny was WAAAAAY easier than clavell||
too predictable
there were 3 hard fights in the game for me
with the full eeveelution team
2 of which were hard because I was underleveled, the only times I was in the whole game
the desert titan, and arven's second rival battle
I did the titans pretty out of order because no displayed levels lul
honestly thank god for the 10 max revives the nurse gives you for finishing her storyline
i would have lost the pokemon league without those probably
bird>crab>donphan>worm>dragon
pretty sure the first two and 3/4 are supposed to be switched around
I don't think I've used a single item in battle in the game
yeah i struggled with both of those too
I've also avoided using the switch after ko and tera as much as possible
i didnt white out against the desert titan but i had to reload my save file after losing to arven because i wasted a max revive on him
mostly just used switch after ko for some low lvl shit when I just wanna get it over with, and I used tera once or twice for theatrics or when I was underleveled
desert titan was the only time I whited out in the whole game
apparently you dont lose money for whiting out to them
i beat the desert titan first try even though i was 20 levels under it
not like it matters, most cash naturally gained has gone into pokeballs and held items
meanwhile 90% of the treasure items I've found are still sitting in my inventory
had to use some to buy choice items postgame tho
it was because my fletchinder had flame body so i just had the titan get burned so it did half damage
yeah, that would do it
the only other hard battle in the game was the final battle
for which I was appropriate level or like, 1-2 above
I finished it with one mon alive on red hp
if you havent finished the final area, then no, you havent done it
final area being area zero
again, I didnt use any battle items or switch after KO
I also dont think I tera'd but unsure
if it makes you feel any better, you can catch the paradox mons in there which will probably make it rather easy
this is the first pokemon game where the egg rock has been actually useful
I also did not realize that you can catch the donphan in the desert where you fight it
until I saw RT video
the exp share is definitely weaker in this game
yeah i found that
yeah, I've been overleveled because of running around randomly and doing almost everything
I don't particularly enjoy that catching mons gives so much xp
unfortunately i was still 20 levels beneath and i killed it since it doesnt let you escape
and i had no balls good enough for it
yeah, you can find it somewhere in area zero tho
it's funny because most of them are somewhat out of the way
but one of them, in scarlet, scream tail
you run past like 1820317 of them on the intended path
im exploring the full area anyway
i need the good loot
especially dawn stones
i found a dusk stone there
also I love the champ's ace mon
now i just need a dawn stone
the weird tube thing?
flower!
yeah, a horde happened for me too. the pre-evo at any rate
they're usually quite rare
anyway i think i 1 shot the champions ace with my starter
yeah thats what i meant
switched the electro bird for it
also the pseudo legendary in this game is lame
it's funny how not overpowered it is when everything else is
the fight against hassel was my first time seeing it
I found one via a shiny tera pokemon out and about and then one in a cave
didnt exactly bother leveling or evolving them yet
it's also funny how common pseudo legendaries are
I've yet to find salamence. or metagross, if that exists here, idk
but I've found a billion of everything else
yeah i find like 10 bagons axews etc in caves
ive seen bagons
goodra things are a bit rarer but they spawn on the overworld in various spots
so salamence is here
not sure about metagross though
i did catch some of those
well eh, I guess it's not the only pseudo legendary missing
I considered using goodra
but I'm also allergic to pseudo legendaries, especially the popular ones
why does metagross' first stage (forgot its name) have such an annoying catch rate tho
case in point, I found a jolly gible
that, while it sat in the party as filler, never ended up using very much
it mostly just sat there to weaken wild mons
i never really pay attention to natures
I just check that natures arent detrimental
like for the starter, I got a neutral first try so I went with it
i didnt care much about my team tbf
but if it was gonna be -spatk or +spd, I was probably gonna reset
though as it turns out, its the second fastest mon on my team somehow
it has really good speed IV I think. plus a bunch of EVs from wild mons
the game lets you vaguely check IVs once you beat the game
it just tells you like
"good" or "ok" or "best" etc
my team right now is:
final evolution starter
talonflame (evolved from route 1 fletchling)
the bird titan (caught after the fight against it)
evolved route 1 spider
evolved wooper that i caught on like route 2
male kirlia from like route 2
this is usally the way i play pokemon
i catch a few pokemon at the start and roll with them for the rest of the game
skeledirge
corviknight
gastrodon
grimmsnarl
breloom
glimmora
i caught the kirlia expecting to actually find a dawn stone before the end of the game
other mons who were used for a meaningful amount of time are electro bird thing (up until postgame), the gible, the electric rodent
I guess I also had the gen 7 horse thing for a sec but that didnt last once I found a gastrodon
I'll admit it's probably the lamest mon on the team
like i get angry whenever i see one
though like, I've never used one before
I tried using mostly new mons
new for me is anything past gen 5
but I used breloom in gen 3
it just ended up fitting the best for balancing out the team when the rest was decided
resists rock, water, also is fighting to punch normal types
it is
I considered using it, I also considered using the grass/ghost tumbleweed
but since starter is a ghost already I opted not to
not that ghost is a bad type to stack tbh
i had nothing good against flying or water
like. damn.
i should have gotten an electric type tbh
only weak to itself and dark
2 immunities, even if normal isnt the most relevant, and 2 resists which are eh
is miraidon an electric type
what type is koraidon
fight/drake
my big question is
if my mother's sandwich was enough to restore miraidon to its full power for just a moment
it's sorta goofy since koraidon isnt boosted as much by its ability than miraidon is, but I think that koraidon is overall a slightly better mon regardless?
♥️ a mother's love! ♥️
anyway I was supposed to simp for glimmora
poison/rock isnt half bad defensive typing even if x4 to ground sucks
i love how one of the gym leaders is a vtuber and one of them is a rapper
the best gym leader is larry though
the goofiest abilities
in addition to setting up toxic spikes by taking damage, it gets the move, alongside stealth rock AND spikes
it gets a funny version of rapid spin
i saw it early on in the game when i encountered a horde
and it has honestly all the coverage in the world
sludge wave, power gem, earth power, dazzling gleam, energy ball, flash cannon
probably good for setup since it has the spike scatter ability though
not that you'd ever use flash cannon when you have poison stab and can have energy ball instead
I'm just curious, it also gets grassy shield
does blocking a phys move count for the ability
idk
spiky shield whatever
blocking is funny
there were a few elite 4 pokemon that i was struggling with
so i just had my wooper use toxic
and then i switched to my spider and got the double protect
and the spider protect lowers the attacker's speed by 1 stage if their attack was physical
leech seed is my favorite move and if ferrothorn was in this game, I'd probably have bred to get one with leech seed
it was a big help against the champion cause i got to set up sticky web
forgot what lokix is
oh right
i remember lokix
i can see people using that as well
the evolved spider is like actually really good though
its relatively tanky even if it doesnt look like it
can set up sticky web
has a special protect move
will probably be used for setup
like teddiursa or whatever is neat too I guess but
because it's not a bug type silly
oh right
NEITHER IS TEDDIE
until they are
yeah
they should have done that for the elite 4 and champion too
instead they terrastalise into the same type
honestly a better move for the extra power
idk if it gives extra power
than taking another type and teraing it into the same type anyway
it does
it puts stab from 1.5 to 2
im not too sure how the tera STAB works
yeah but i think that applies for pokemon that werent that type before going tera
stab is boosted from 1.5 to 2 if you tera into a type you already are
no
it's only if you were the type already
huh
if ur water duck teras into water, it gets x2 water stab and keeps 1.5 on fighting
if my fire croc teras into steel, it keeps 1.5 on fire, ghost, and gains 1.5 to steel also
i was gonna give my quaqaval a flying tera type but i guess that would literally just be STAB for air slash
yeah, chances are you either want it to blank a weakness, especially a x4 one
probably better to keep it water
or to boost your offenses
its only rly good on offensive mons cuz
wow, I tera'd my ferrothorn which doesnt exist this gen into water to resist a lethal fire move
i like how you can use it to stop being weak to something
now what. I lost all my resistances.
the biggest threat to my quaqaval is flying types which i have nothing good against
but when i terrastalise to water i lose that weakness
and also can probably kill them with a water move
yeah, it took me too long to realize that that's what the secondary starter types are for
like
at first I was "neat, they make a pseudo triangle in the opposite direction"
ghost isnt super effective vs fighting but it blanks it in return
it's just like
when I tera my fire croc, its no longer weak to grass cat dark
that's the idea behind the secondary types
...i think, at least
unfortunately clavell's grass cat had a grass tera type
i was expecting it to be dark
also my immediate thought when i saw the grass cat final evolution was "oh no"
yoo idk if this is actually RNG but if so, I got hella lucky already
am doing postgame activity
do you remember the memes when sprigatito was revealed and people immediately were weird about it
yeah when i saw the sprigatito final evolution i immediately knew what had already happened
I mean I was just surprised at teh duck
like I was gonna pick duck or croc
and their nicknames were gonna be jerma or nemesis, respectively
so I have nemesis croc but jerma duck could've happened too
i thought the duck was gonna be a pirate 😭
the dance is so fucking goofy
it reminds me of some like
escalator training video from the 90s
in case you dont get the "jerma" name
local sus guy streamer jerma985
nemesis is a fire emblem character. as it turns out, while it wasnt planned, all my team's nicknames ended up being fe3h chars
all the names have some relevance to them, at least
its not just ha ha I can't come up with names (though that's like 75% of the reason)
my team member names were dumb
might as well explain the jokes
skeledirge's flames reminded me of an opera singer's hair (for whatever reason), + its ghost type. nemesis is a long dead zombie-kinda guy and his battle theme happens to be opera
quaxly = Donald
talonflame = Fletch
the titan bird = Borb
spider = spoder
wooper = poo
kirlia = Raltsei
corviknight is a. knight. ingrid is a very knightly knight chivalrous lady who's also canonically a pegasus rider, aka flying class
dorothea is. a singer/dancer person. this is the dumbest one but while gastrodon is a slug, dorothea is something else that also starts with "slu" and ends in one other letter <_>
felix is an edgy dumbo who all behind all his rudeness means well for his friends, therefore grimmsnarl dark/fairy type
actually that reminds me
caspar is just. short, loud punchy guy. breloom isnt that tall and it punches things. idk.
and edelgard is very debated in the community + canonically armor knight not that anyone uses that class, therefore poison + rock
i thought arven was going to be the mean rival but then he was actually nice
did you also predict the identity of cassiopeia
because i sure did
was it supposed to be hard to predict.
and very early
probably
it was unfortunately very easy
i even predicted clavell's lie
yeah, of course
now the real question is how cassiopeia did not know that clive was clavell
he's supposed to be a trash liar
man, water/ground especially with water absorb is such a not fair type
i had to reload against rika
not because i lost or anything
wait, really, I know that cloyster has exactly zero special def
but my gastrodon oneshot it with earth power through light screen
but because i realised that i wasted my terrastalize
also i tried to hit her wooper with a water attack and it had water absorb
but thats not what made me reset
it was the wasted terrastalize
if i knew that i got healed before the champion fight i would have used it against ||larry|| tbh
i had trouble with his flying types
btw random thing about gym fight rematches
the psychic person's florges
why does it have physical grass coverage
florges
i am still confused as to why florges is pure fairy and not fairy grass 3 gens later
options
what she opted for
my gastrodon lived that quad effective hit
because it uses phys grass coverage
i think the first postgame thing i wanna do is get a better team
and my idea of a better team is 5 legendaries and 1 starter of course
might challenge myself to capture legendaries in only regular poke balls
unless they have dumb catch rates
I used yawn on skeledirge (until I replaced it and cant re-learn it because bruh.) and then spore on breloom
so catching things has been very easy
is there no move relearner in this game
you can do it via menu like in arceus, which is VERY GOOD
however. apparently skeledirge doesnt learn yawn. the pre-evo does.
wtf
despite the fact that my skeledirge knew it, it can't "remember" the move because its not in its natural learnshit
when i finally evolve my kirlia i should have no trouble catching things
false swipe and hypnosis
i just hate looking for the stakes
my least favourite part in arceus was looking for all the spirits with no guide at all
why did they have to bring that back
i spent like a week looking for the last spirit i needed in the tundra
you get to fight jacq??
yes, flare blitz my glimmora... set up those toxic spikes..
as if it doesnt exist
does like every region have a different pokedex
I mean I guess they literally do, the mons are different
but like. every region has a person who invented teh dex, apparently
I do not understand why they removed switch/set mode from this game
did they not hear about the giant dragon that tried to destroy a city in galar
or if they just like, didnt have time to implement it because crunch
or about the guys in sinnoh who wanted to erase the universe
or about groudon and kyogre fighting in hoenn
or about the giant laser beam in kalos
what do you think of team star btw
actually speaking of kalos
i swear these games are trying to pretend it never existed
its implied that galar had a war against kalos but it is never mentioned by name
and gen 9 is happy to mention galar even though the region is geographically connected to kalos
i dont think kalos is ever mentioned in scarlet/violet
not as bad as i expected
i feel like the "evil team that is not so bad" trope is getting old though
this is the third time now
I think they just nailed it the first time, is all
like, team skull is fantastic, team yell is. and team star is ok
team yell was just lame
they stop existing halfway through the game because they have no role in the story
like, team star is fine, but I feel like its just worse team skull in a sense
team skull was cool
its a similar theme
team star is also pretty cool
but team skull fits so well in the context of pokemon
they're like, bullied pokemon trainers
I don't remember the details exactly either but
I think they were harrassed so they banded up and try to act all tough
yes, but it's like, pokemon related
I think it's that they suck at pokemon battles
here it's just literal school bullying which is like
alright, sure
but with team skull its distinctly pokemon
team star has some people who maybe deserve to be bullied tbf
it gets the same point across
like that one ninja dude gives me neckbeard vibes
milady!
calling every girl "my lady" and speaking like a knight
and talking about the art of a ninja
I seek not the sympathy of the unworthy rabble.
he composed the best tracks in the game
I do not remember
music guy made the music
ninja guy made the costumes
pink kid made the machines
eri trained everyone
what was mela good for
horrific abuse of revavroom
i was so disappointed when i saw the actual revavroom form
and when it wasnt a massive fucking car
I used varoom for a bit
but eh, fast offensive mon isnt probably the best for steel/poison
also
i thought only giacomo was going to use revavroom
didnt think all the others would do it too
well its funny
the only one who actually uses revavroom is the ninja
all the others. and him too. just use the car which is called "revavroom" when they "send it out"
i did lose to eri's revavroom
because it sets up shift gears like 4 times
and then sweeps your team
and also has an ability that raises its defense
and i was underlevelled
by the time I got there I was overpowered enough that everything kinda fell over and died
im glad this game is actually challenging unlike swsh
i didnt white out a single time in swsh
same with pokemon crystal though
idk why I'm spore-ing this falinks when I could probably just close combat it, I'm gonna have to switch out with breloom anyway cuz the enemy is gonna send in something it cant handle
I also honestly dont know if toxic orb is the way to go since its not like my breloom is bulky
bulky leech seed subsitute breloom is funny
well, I sent the screenshot earlier, as you can see
and thats about it
there's surprisingly many decent items pre postgame in the delibird shops
you can get choice scarf
and yet flame charge still does like 2 damage when super effective
not band or specs tho...
I gave choice scarf for breloom in endgame fights and it was hella clutch
man
she really has two tauros
because the new tauros has water and fire forms
new tauros is annoying
i found a horde of them on my way to the water titan
accidentally encountered one
I kill fire tauros with earth power after living an earthquake, out comes water tauros
and then as soon as each battle ended
a new tauros was stood on me and initiated a battle
they are overly aggressive
you wanna talk about aggressive encounters
what about the psychic fish
they zoom at you at mach 10
that psychic fish is my new least favourite pokemon
i was sweeping the champion with some setup and then that fucker comes along and tanks my attack and then 1 shots me with psycho cut
I gotta love that despite having 3 100% acc moves, I have wide lens on grimmsnarl
simply because rough play is 90%
me hate 90% accuracy moves..
my strat for the pokemon league was basically to use work up 3 times to raise my attack and special attack
and then sweep the whole team
I've hardly used setup
the most meaningful setup I did was use hone claws on corvisquire 3 times back in the first gym
well, if skeledirge doesnt count
considering it sets up by attacking
final nemona was easier than the champion
but according to the champion "she was holding back against even me"
kinda dumb giving her an ace that is guaranteed to be weak to your starter (which you are most likely still using on your team)
eh. is it "guaranteed weak"?
yes
I don't think cat has anything that really beats it outright
it terrastalizes to either grass water or fire depending on what you chose
i kinda dont like the whole "there are multiple champions" thing
unless postgame allows you to become top champ
idk I'm currently fighting top champ
I forgot she has gogoat. her mons are sorta unimpressive lol
i 1 tapped her gogoat
idk why it came into my grimmsnarl but I'm switching out anyway
the pokemon that gave me the most trouble was her espathra
ah, right, play rough
I started with breloom which switches out vs esparatha which ofc is gonna use psychic
soooo just switched into grimmsnarl and sucked punch ohko
and then when she switched to kingambit i setup
I don't like using brave bird on corviknight, so much recoil lol
sweep went well until the fish appeared
...can it do anything to corviknight?
they should add more chess piece evolutions for pawniard
i love corviknight
like her favorite mon is
really cool pokemon
what is it. the thing that pawniard evolves into
bisharp
oh wow, didnt ohko it with body press
I guess it isnt stab and its decently bulky, but still x4
i am kinda disappointed with dudunspace
they were like "oh? you wanted a dunsparce evo? ok its just longer dunspace"
like i still think dunsparce should evolve into drampa
its funny though
the girafarig evo is weird
me when luvdisc doesnt evolve into alomomola
I swear it had to be their intent, but then they decided that gen 5 wouldnt have any new mons related to old ones
i didnt get to see much of girafarig's evo since i 1 shot the one that the psychic gym leader had
and then gen 9 with a ton of mons related to older ones
i just think its really cool how a bunch of mons that had no evolutions before got some
they did that in arceus too kinda
3rd ursaring stage, stantler evo
poor breloom is hardly getting any action
i like breloom
it cant switch into anything and has to flee from almost every mon the enemy first sends out
my first introduction to pokemon was a roblox pokemon game that has since been erased from existence
but in that pokemon game i randomly encountered a shiny shroomish
and after that i used it on my team
and it was cool
i havent found a shiny yet
2nd shiny since I found a shiny america bird the very first thing in postgame in black
i for some reason had CRAZY zigzagoon luck in swsh
noooo I had a mon faint
i was exploring the wild area once and a random zigzagoon ran into me and it was a shiny
I almost did this whole gauntlet with no casualties
then my friend wanted a shiny zigzagoon so i started hatching eggs for him and i got a shiny within like 30 eggs
and then one day i was doing something and encountered ANOTHER shiny linoone
it was actually starting to get annoying
i think i got some more shinies in swsh
not counting the special shiny magikarp new years thing
i wanted a shiny rayquaza but i didnt have the will to grind the raids for a 1/50 chance
i also wanted a shiny scorbunny but i didnt have the will to hatch a million eggs for one
i had a shiny zeraora which i think at this point is more common than normal zeraora
doesnt seem like there's an intense amount of postgame
i am like 99% sure they will announce DLC by april anyway
so far seems like its just gym rematches and this tournament thing
which is like the PWT from bw2 but shitty
only singles vs lvl 65/67 mons
while I've enjoyed this game, I'm only buying dlc if they patch the game first
yeah
i dont imagine itll remain a buggy mess for much longer anyway
its not like bugs have affected me that much but
if they make it clear they dont care
then I wont bother
the worst bug for me so far was the game crashing after i beat mela and forcing me to start over
I can excuse pushing out a somewhat buggy mess because of the pokemon company's stupid release windows
like, that's not really game freak's fault
much less the developers
but if they dont fix shit before they push out dlc, then no
that's where I draw the line
if they do dlc i wonder what it would be
they already covered the entire iberian peninsula so portugal is out of the question
there's one area of the map that I didnt try to get near that's like, covered on the map
i think it was smart how sword and shield did scotland and ireland
based on real life logic that is kalos
well, idk how much pokemon cares about geography
but once again this game as well as swsh like to pretend that kalos doesnt exist
i would say its a safe bet to guess that it's kalos
ok I'm 10 levels above at this point
time to just use "switch pokemon" things to get this over with
I just wanna see if anything particular happens here
or is all that's left to fill out pokedex (which I wont do) and catch the legendaries (which idk if I'll do)
and raids
i will fill out the pokedex
i never finished the swsh pokedex thanks to the dlc
i did the main one and the isle of armor one
I'm not like, even that far off
I just don't think I care
oh cool
I missed 99% play rough
but after i lost my zamazenta when trying to exchange it with a zacian i didnt want to do legendary trades anymore
yes
ok that's probably what happened
more likely than wide lens play rough missing at any rate
arven the best
@long flint just in case you weren't aware
||you can catch a 2nd box art legendary in area zero so you can still use the bike and the battle form at the same time||
||i remember you complained about the whole switching between forms thing and then i found this so i just thought i'd let you know||
