The Item Thread on the forums is a nightmare to navigate, having 68 pages of chaotic and entangling conversations.

I propose to update it, or have a replacement pinned thread in similar vein to WithTheFish’s History of Wynncraft thread
https://forums.wynncraft.com/threads/the-history-of-wynncraft-up-to-date.291440/
(Amazing thread you should totally check out)
Incorporate drop-downs for updates and patches. Example:

2.0.1a
2.0.1b
2.0.2
Categories can include:
New Items
Removed Items
Quest Reward Changes
Item Changes

Item System Changes

Let it be locked from replies, where you can be redirected to other threads specially made for individual updates.

the reply (not the first post, but selvuts reply immediately after) is supposed to contain all upcoming changes

#

but this occasionally gets forgotten about (oops)

#

which is actually already a better system than the one you've suggested, the problem is that only selvut can edit it and often when we announce new item changes editing that isn't priority

That's not what I'm getting at. What I'm getting at is trying to find historic changes in ITT (Item Team Thread) is a nightmare to navigate, and should behave similar to WithTheFish's History of Wynncraft Thread, grouping patches together under updates and filing them in spoiler blocks.

and again, the reply has been last edited on September 17, 2021; and doesn't tell what update they're for.

This system should should be as layman as possible imo

if your complaint is "please start updating these properly again" that is TOTALLY FAIR

ancient basin
#

Is it all good if I manage this thread

also how do I lock it haha

crisp juniper
#

but if your complaint is "well i think the thread should be organized using these methods" that's not reasonable as it IS organized using these methods, it simply is not being updated

#

if you want to make your own thread actually keeping up to date track of stuff, be my guest, absolutely do that, it would be appreciated even

#

but please don't complain that something that exists & people put effort into (even if it was in the past) should exist.. when it exists

ancient basin
#

It should be updated definitely, but that sounds like pretty intensive given the workload

crisp juniper
#

well there used to be a bot that automatically churned out pastebin logs from changes that were made over a certain period of time which was really easy for tracking full changelogs

#

this bot has not worked for a while though so yes announcing changes & deciding on things over reactions to those changes or even just being on time takes far more priority over keeping historical records of these changes

#

which goes double considering before the latest update a few months ago wynndata literally made those records automatically and in much more presentable & high quality than you or i could ever do lol

#

however i will stress to the others that we should make a pastebin or some form of document collecting all changes made over a larger period of time from now on again

#

you will see if we end up remembering :pp

ancient basin
#

What happened to wynndata btw ?

crisp juniper
#

large scale changes to item formatting in API made wynndata unable to read new stuff without having to redo chunks of code and dukio hasn't wanted to do any work on wynndata for a year or two now- he just keeps it running as people still commonly use it

#

wd stats broke sometime after as well 😢

not ideal 😦
wynndata is like the wikipedia to a student

crisp juniper
#

wynndata is so fucking amazing how dukio was never brought onboard and/or wynndata was made an official site with some funding is beyond me
