When showing off the portal of war, it mentions the portal of darkness, but does not show it. Why not? I understand its in Dern, a region the players will not have been to yet, but is it so bad to foreshadow a further region? I think it would be interesting seeing the location, and then later in the game after passing through the gates of the Eldritch Outlike it would be like "holy shit I remember seeing this" and the player would better understand the importance of where they are. Really minor and pointless suggestion but I just think it's small enough of a tweak to really not be a bother
#Small tweak to Aldorei's Secret Part 2

it used to show the dern portal but it was removed
Oh that’s bizarre
early in beta it showed it but it was changed because it was weird to show level 78 players the fucking end of the road
cough fantastic voyage
fantastic voyage doesnt show you the dern portal
Foreshadowing is interesting tho
Shows you something else pretty close to the end of the road
the whole idea of the dern portal is that you walk to it after EO as this massive floating portal looms over you and it's mysterious
that isn't foreshadowing. that's "here's the place you're gonna go later"
I mean it’s pretty obvious what it is
I guess if the team has decided against it I can’t argue. No point it arguing with an already made decision
Sorry samsam, but is that not what foreshadowing does? Gives you hints of developments in the future?
Yeah that too
showing people the actual portal isn't a hint, it's a spoiler
better foreshadowing would be to show its silhouette or something
It's like how (fantastic voyage and secret discovery for light forest spoilers)
||The eye shows up in both the ultimate discovery for the light forest and fantastic voyage||
Not a silhouette, but out in the open, as something never seen before
And you never hear of it again till AJF
Is there a difference there?
Dern portal is less meant to be a “wait wtf is this” moment and more a “holy shit so THIS is where the darkness comes from”
This is just something I was like “wait why tf isn’t the dern portal there” because I’m going through 2.0 quests on my main acc
I think as a level 105 archer with an optimized build the hunger of gerts enemies are too easy :/
even at level the enemies are too easy
idk i think fantastic voyage is fine for doing this. it reveals this thing as a threat, and you later get to go beat it up
and later here is in, like. 10 levels
Would this suggestion make more sense if we actually had Dern then?
Level gap is a little brutal
But so is the gap between Nueve and the Eye
Yeah 10 levels is a lot at that point in play I’d say
shrug
i dont have much of an opinion on this
just that i think fantastic voyage is fine
Any opinions on the aldorei’s secret stuff.
What’s ur take on foreshadowing
Also this new aldorei’s secret is way better I don’t even remember the point of the last one
Although it pains me to know that this is the only time an actual dragon is used in wynncraft (to make the portal open animation)
I quite enjoy it
I really want a dragon in Wynncraft and no not one that eats you
I really hate the lore for this one, theres no reason for the portals to be connected and seems to happen "because the plot says so" and theres absolutely no foreshadowing of this or any hint of it being this way, and also changes stuff that was already good to something worse. The greedy miners plot was a bit bad but it could of been reworked, the dern portal was already opened or seems to have been already opened by the time of the event(cause se has been spreading out of the portal for years now) and it feels dumb for it to randomly close and open to make this happen, I don't mind the light portal being opened but the other portals being opened should be changed imo. And instead of the mystery of the portals opening for wynn and se that could've all had interesting unique reasons we got "elves and orphion did a bad episode 230923" It feels random and unconnected to have the other portals opened by a completely random force across the map without reason, and since it's new it won't be changed anytime soon so they won't try to make cooler lore for dern portal opening or nether portal opening
and it would've been fine as a "the elves were too greedy/desperate" storyline but the fact that it happened due to a miscommunication like it's a comedy screws it over and also the fact that the elves are bland af
Yeah I liked all of it besides the miscommunication
I kinda just assumed they knew it was a warning but interpreted it as something to benefit them. Made it a lot better
To throw my hat into the ring: i liked the cutscene way better when it actually showed the portal and it feels lesser without it. I would be fine with just showing the portal in a dark void (as to not spoil the area), but it only being a mention in the dialogue without any visuals accompanying it just feels uninteresting and lazy.
I'll be slightly more happy if they change the dialogue so the characters aren't as bland as the taste of sand
But I despise the lore(please change it so it doesnt have portals connected it adds nothing and ruins existing and future lore as well as being random and unjustified and anticlimatic uninteresting and it wasn't even executed/revealed in a good way.)
Dialogue is bland as I said, and theres so much of it.
The gameplay has a alright puzzle a few annoying "guess the option" puzzles(please stop doing this this is the worst way to use these options other quests do it 100x better) and the one really annoying "puzzle" at the end
The only thing I like is the builds and visuals
This has probably already been said but
You aren't supposed to know about the Dern portal until level 101
And after EO completion
it doesn't ruin future lore because all lore since this was cemented in lore (well before 2.0 release) has been around the idea that the chaos portal was the mistake of the elves
If that part just didnt exist at all there could be something else, it being determined before release doesnt change much
ok
Then why do they mention it by name in the quest?
They mention it by name but they don't show you where it is or what it's like
