brief description of gold system
basically each territory produces gold (which is pretty much exactly equal to the current SR generation of territories), and with the gold each territory is then given a task that pretty much means the territory will do that. all gold flows to HQ then to the territory assigned that task. gold IS subject to standard tax just as other resources are.

think of it as kind of like workers in an RTS where they are each assigned an automated task and the guild chooses which task. 

current task examples i've thought of are:
SR generation (hourly) (default) (generates stock standard amount of SR. pretty much regular SR generation for the time)
SR generation (daily) (gives 25% more than it would typically each day (e.g. instead of 480 you'd generate 600 but you get slowed gains))
banner point generation (basically very slow way to generate banner points if a guild wants to upgrade their banner)
tome seeking (moved from bonuses to tasks. basically the same as the bonus except only one tier (highest tier))
emerald seeking (same deal as tome seeking. moved to tasks, chance each hour to find emeralds)
xp seeking (same as above but for guild xp)
fortify (adds +1 min to timers passing through this territory for non-allied guilds.)

tl;dr instead of passive sr generation you spend gold to generate SR

I think you are missing an important issue about alliances, the issue is mega alliances being too determined to hold the entire map which they don't benefit from because more guilds = more competition for better claims = less security of holding your desired claim especially if you were recently exposed for homophobia

Whereas if we did not have mega alliances and two map holding alliances, then one could be content in wynn province for example with the goal they had to which the rebels would be satisfied without having to deal with people like TAq and ILQ trying to dictate to what underwear you should be wearing on that specific day WHEN WE COULD BE HOLDING NON-AGGRESSION PACTS AND CASUS BELIS WHATEVER THEY ARE
