i think the "it's only fictional entertainment" argument is a bad one, it generally lowers writing to a shoddy level and dismisses good critique.
"who cares if something isn't factually correct or makes sense" and to that the rhetorical question is "let people be in a destructive phantasm?"
shoddy worldbuilding, in my opinion, can also undermine general perception of science and reality altogether, as the argument relies on an idealistic notion that stories do not affect the people that consume them! having fiction with a poorly structured reality containing a mediocre understanding of its own content - one full of fatalistic sludge of inescapable eternal doom and one which we cannot do anything about or understand on a rational level - and considering it an acceptable worldview is just harmful, and shutting down conversations around a deeper understanding (and critique) of a piece of work is anything but counterproductive escaping.
