He essentially took his place at his house and as a way to earn money he tried to turn it into a tourist trap

Realism, especially regarding the player’s ability to arbitrarily and creatively manipulate their environment, is a really, really complex thing to encode into a game’s rules and physics engine. As any dungeon master of D&D could tell you, your players will, on occasion, approach a problem with solutions you never considered, no matter how mundane or routine the problem seems.

As a developer, sure, I could implement a system for you to rip the boards off the doorframe with your bare hands - but does it require a skill check for some strength stat? Does beating the boards with any random item you found in the room weaken the boards and make that skill check easier? How much easier? Does the type of object you hit the boards with matter? Can you hit them with a living being, like the dog cowering in the corner? What about burning the planks? How long does that take, and can it spread to the rest of the house? Does breaking the planks with your hands give you fekin’ splinters? How do those affect you?

The rabbit hole on each and every game mechanic is as infinitely deep and problematic as the creativity of the players approaching it, and implementing the mechanics to handle each approach costs a lot of time, money, and computing resources on the player’s computer.
