it has existed longer than AI has, and miku was one of the first voice packs available on vocaloid

yamaha recently incorporated AI into vocaloid to help smooth out the voice synthesis and make it sound better, but vocaloid itself is not AI and it's not using AI to actually generate any of the sounds

btw miku isn't a vocaloid anymore, the company that owns her got sick and tired of yamaha and decided to build their own voice synthesis program called piapro

it's vastly less expensive and has better features, if you're interested in the technology I very much recommend it

in this case, I do think it's a fairly valid argument for getting offended against it, since trap implies it's used to trap people of the male gender into thinking them as females when they are not, where most people prefer to dress as girls or act as girls, so I would say it's fairly valid

yes, it isn't necessarily offensive when used as intended for anime characters who are just cross-dressers and not canonically trans, but it is definitely used in a transphobic way occasionally

now i'm not too familiar with such anime, but the etymology of the term itself is potentially problematic regardless - i guess if it's literally canonically used as deception in the anime then fair enough

otherwise generically implying that the way someone dresses / their gender expression is inherently deceptive is kinda problematic even if they don't identify as trans, because queerness has many forms, we don't fit into perfect binary boxes
