Vivaldi runs on Chromium, but it protects your data for the most part, it also has an effective adblocker, but I'd still recommend installing Ublock Origin.
If you want to avoid it completely, Firefox is your best option for browsers.

Vivaldi is a browser based on privacy, it's got a lot of very useful features, as it's created by developers who left the Opera (browser) team because of Opera's sketchy practices. Chromium is the framework for an overwhelming majority of browsers. Unless the browser has plenty of safeguards in place, like Vivaldi does, Chromium is still managing and selling your data. Firefox has it's own open-sourced framework, so it's by far the safest. It unfortunately lacks some of the features that browsers like Vivaldi have.
