professions can be started easily, look for a "tool merchant". I believe there is one right outside ragni on the path to the woods
then you can just look out for mining nodes, trees that have text near them, fish and crops and right click on them with the correct tool
as for buildable land, there is a housing balloon at detlas which will take you to a plot of land you can build on
though i think some of it might be rank locked? im not sure
