there's prolly a damage & death function (idk for certain); in both, there's prolly an argument for what hurt you and /kill says something like "dont worry about it" which makes your death message set to whatever the thing is damaged you last rather than "died under mysterious circumstances"

Its actually not damage. In old versions it was damage and set to a insanely high amount but it changed in 1.9 since totems got added since you would have been able to avpid a /kill with them. Now instead of dealing damage it sets the targets health to zero which doesnt deal damage fixing the totem issue as it protects from fatal damage not your health hitting zero. And like gabitza said this causes the game to go "oh ypur hp is at 0. You died."

sometimes its worth staying for 1-2 more levels at the old resource
lower xp per node but your node per minute is higher
until you can go up a speed bracket or two
