I should mention to anyone that hasn't been hanging around the OST on youtube - Fruma's songs have attached logs to them in the description that I am going to assume can be considered as additional or repeat lore unless told otherwise - check them out.

The most recent set of songs from the other day and the one from a weekish ago with Domain and whatnot don't have logs from what I've watched but the tracks from Fruma release do.

In the description of Tasteless Facade is a log from an unknown Fruman soldier that also identifies the fact Changeling's are just soldiers to die (As in the soldier themself is attaching that understanding in their Log), this is just me adding to the stuff I've said!

I do think this Soldier grossely misunderstands Changelings as a species due to just a detatchment in believing a species other than themselves (which is just how a lot of real people think) can possibly be 'sentient' or 'like them' thinking them as 'only knowing one job', but I do like that they're questioning it in the lens of being a soldier who is disillusioned by being someone in the military (especially a monarchial-based one) and is being somewhat sympathetic to the idea that they relate to the idea that Changeling's being Changelings means they are effectively just like a soldier; morphed into what they are ordered to become, blank slates that do the nations dirty work.

We can also consider the fact that the soldier is viewing the Tar Pits/Wastelands and perceives whatever wellspring of Changeling birth that was there is inherently now drained and empty and is basically a mass of non-sentience given form from the deep recesses of the Tar Pits with whatever Magic Changeling Be-Born Juice is left.

But I think it's still more than important to understand that they are still using Changeling's and their understanding of 'Nothing truly lives here' in relation to them as a way to project their own feelings of being a soldier for Fruma.

The nature of sentience is a really tough thing to conceptualize. Much how placing autonomy and humanity to an animal isn’t easily perceptible, I wonder how much of a changeling is shaped by their environment, their base instincts, and whether or not their biology is specifically designed to attain sentience.

They seem to be born with a near infinite level of potential, but their limits can be just as easily placed through simple perception. I wonder how many changelings wander Fruma, unaware of their origin, and living purely as whatever they shifted to.

But, there’s also the nature of humanity being both industrialized and replicated by an entire squadron of teachers and perspectives. We see their struggle to learn, and the effort it takes to mimic human-sentience, but we see some kind of innate desire to conform to a specific form, regardless of what it is being forced to do

Azael is probably the most interesting character in the game, the longer I think about this.

The most clear examples I’ve experienced were people of exual abuse, more so from family, and they’ll specifically revert to a mindset and desire system to the time before, or of, the event itself.

Soosu, to me, is following close to that sort of trauma. Children put into stressful environments—without real guidance—seldom develop themselves the ability to actually process and comprehend what is happening to them. Once “sentience” (autonomy, really) sets in, it’s like a horrible aspect grief completely envelops them.

They realize what was taken, they have nothing to feed off of and heal from, and are forced into their own mind, perspective, experiences, etc, to solve the problem. A common response is to shut down, and revert to what is familiar, or the closest thing you have to a good feeling. This can manifest itself in toys, violence, food, stimming, coddling, etc
