as a potential rewrite for NOL, I got an idea. Neither us nor Lari are Orphion’s first chosen - we are the latest of a millennia-long line of chosens who fought and lost against the parasite. When each chosen is killed, Orphion does everything he can to cover up the death, and proclaim the next person as the new “first chosen”. Now why would Orphion send hundreds of people to their deaths? Desperation. This is the first entity that can directly threaten him, so he’s throwing everything against the wall, hoping one person he chose can at least weaken the parasite. We are chosen by Orphion, and Lari could have been a previous chosen (who somehow survived and hid from Orphion) who teaches the player about the chosen system. The climax could be us confronting Orphion, who reveals the whole truth to us, including the parasite, and it is up to us to defeat it

• Orphion should be unable to communicate with Lari/The player after the Parasite had taken over him. Making the Parasite more of a threat.
• Eih, the messenger of Light, should be the one speaking on Orphion's behalf and be the one guiding Lari/The player.
• The elves (especially those that worship light) need to have a greater fear of the Decay and a role with trying to help Lari.

Yeah, adding to the need. Since it seems like the story does want Light and Darkness to not be Good and Bad, I think Orphion should have more larger consequences for actions we hear him take/tell then it being very vague.

• Orphion, thinking that light = good, tells Lari to deal with the Parasite as her heart sees fit. Thinking that his light would illuminate her to know what is best.

Consequence: Light actually is neutral and is just a force. So Lari, as a pacifist, listens to herself and compares the Parasite with the many other things she has tamed with light (which I think there should be a few examples that being a pacifist did work out for her in the last) leading to the events we know.

• Orphion ignores Lari for centuries, thinking that it is nessesary to find someone else that may listen to his light even though he is extremely vague.

Consequence: Orphion is now unable to speak from the Parasite more and more controlling his body and cannot reach out to Lari anymore, making him in constant suffering.

Also I know this discussion was a while ago but I was replaying ROL and after you beat the NOL raid, orphion does call you their pulse. So it is indeed possible for there to be two “permanent” pulses at once which isn’t really too important but I thought it was an interesting implication for future player-aldorei interactions.

• sewers does not matter enough to warrant any degree of effort or thought
• infested pit LITERALLY is done with aledar and tasim in canon as of 2.0.3, they accompany you during your first attempt. the only one canonically done onscreen in a party

• the mechanics in the old version of underworld crypt suggest that it is done as a solo person but the reworked version puts it up in the air more. Still leaning solo due to the weird hallucination that Charon puts you through
• Timelost Sanctum literally doesn’t even have a quest yet
• Lost sanctuary’s missing. It’s as if the memories were torn out.

• sandswept tomb also does not have enough lore to suggest either way, albeit you are suggested to gear up first as per usual

• the events of Fate of the Fallen basically FORCES Ice Barrows to be done solo (which means that the Soldier is as powerful as a weakened Theorick as soon as level 40)

• Corrupted Betrayal is the first quest where an NPC suggests you get friends to help at the end of the associated quest. Slykaar is probably fought in a group of 2 or 3 due to this

• Galleon’s Graveyard is a special case. If you’ve done the quest, it has to be done solo due to the Mutineers actively referring to the Soldier. If you HAVEN’T, they’re replaced with undead crew members as to not spoil the quest or cause plotholes, and therefore it can in that instance be done as a group

I mean it doesn't have to be an actual town really, Lutho doesn't have normal ppl besides the traders plus the realm itself could have more sentient corrupted entities (like bak'al) its up in the air on what to speculate really. The realm of light was pretty small and had no towns though so that could be a frame of reference for how other realms could be

if it's big I think they'll have to do some sort of town or else (if we're assuming its open combat or has extremely dangerous mobs) higher mobility builds would be super meta because you can get in and out and store loot faster than other builds

this would make sense in lore I think, but they could change or add something like Lutho to make it more hospitable to players if it is something hostile where you need to extract loot (because if its just loot extractions then I think just high mobility would be meta)

and what I mentioned is that the realm of light is pretty small and has no towns so maybe not (or it could have a raid that serves as a "safe space like ROL")

like if anyone can get immunity to corruption rather than the player seeking out a powerful expert on corruption and getting resistance to it, then corruption isn't a problem for the people of detlas

That’s why I think a military base camp would work more than a settlement. It’s there not really immunity to the corruption as it would require multiple highly skilled mages to keep up a small barrier, and if you go outside it then you have to deal with corruption very quickly
