It’s their battle ground that created the realm of war, so Dern Beast being the only one with some kind of lasting effect would be a weird specification. Beyond that, the visceral inspiration SE takes from the eye just doesn’t have a lot to do with how corruption actually behaves

As of now, there’s no major connection—road or diplomatic alliance—for Troms and Fruman. However, I wouldn’t put it past the update to strengthen that bond, since Troms is considered one of the more heavily fortified, bastion/safe haven esc locations. With such a powerful presence, I’m sure there’d have to be something going on with the two powers

Personally, I don’t see much of a point to have connections with Troms, since it really doesn’t have a lot to do with recruitment/the new recruits in general. Ragni establishes a path directly to the borders of Fruma. It’s so commonly used, that the prison itself has a cart in it to transport those freshly brainwashed loons into Ragni. Troms is more of a military city state, one with good influence throughout Wynn, but nothing more than it’s established power within Wynn

On the topic of cities, I’ve wondered why Detlas stayed the hub. It’s a city in the center of Wynn, sure, but its connections are kinda mute point when it’s literally directly in the line of fire with the corruption

Just had a random thought, but AJB showcased how 3 very powerful, very experienced warriors of the world can be utterly dismantled and destroyed by even the most simplistic and commonplace creatures of the silent expanse. With that mentioned, how the H did the raid and lootrun division of the silverbull syndicate manage to establish anything

Notg makes sense, since it’s a huge cave that they are already previewed to. It’s basically an old abandoned set of tunnels and ruins that can easily be reached, whilst being expectedly treacherous. NoL plays into Lari telling us to get help, where we find more members to raid with, alongside bringing in the raiding division of the silverbull syndicate to help us explore the vast expanse of NoL’s halls. TCC is a bit stranger, but I can see it working since there’s a lootrun syndicate nearby, and the raid does take place throughout the canyon. It’d make sense that there’d be people willing to help that are already associated with the lootrun division of CotL.

TNA has zero reason for these guys to be here. Shits just opened up and it’s one of the most perilous, horrendously dangerous places in the game. How’d they even get here

Like, it’s not even a plausible case of “well, after the quests, we went and got them”, because this entire region is h e double hockey sticks level of hell. You’d have to lead em through the entire road to Dern, dodging observers, wanderers, obsessors, those lil bugs, and eye folks, all throughout the way. These guys would all be spanked and splattered; no way any of them are getting to Lutho, let alone setting up base 😭

No, the lootrun division and the raid division people being there does not make sense, but it could be theorised that our journey into SE allowed the rest of the populous to understand and counter not more than a few of the entities within SE, or at least, those we encounter in lore. Aledar also does mention at the end of AJF “You'll have to kill it to break the barrier. But... find other soldiers who can help you. It will be impossible to defeat alone.”

So there are most likely capable soldiers still out there who might be able to traverse and set up camp in SE — perhaps even stronger than the trio we went with, after all, Tasim is most likely equal to, perhaps stronger, than aledar

Bakal, for some reason, aligns himself with the dern beast, which makes it seem like darkness and corruption are together

At the very least both of them are allied i’d imagine, but the details are slightly finicky, with how old SE lore is

From what I’ve gathered, and the actual portal on Gateway Island that leads to a secret, tucked away corner of SE, Bob was talking about the eye. I’m fairly certain that Bob had zero clue that the Dern Beast even existed, only being able to rely on 3rd party perspectives with Farcor, Gavellian history, and the bits and pieces of SE that only the most important, powerful people have even a slight idea behind its existence.

However, I do not put it past Bob to have seen the Outlook, realized that there is, in fact, a portal to darkness that is basically the real source of SE’s state, and to risk sealing the eye’s gaze to only a portion of the world (Wynn)

Ba’kal could’ve also confronted Bob whilst he attempted to seal off the rest of the eye to Wynn, maybe failing in his attempts to stop him. After whatever sealing he did, Bob would, then, limit Ba’kal to only a select few areas that have been influenced by darkness, explaining why he doesn’t really show his face anymore, beyond places like RoL, where the parasite has infected the realm

There’s a lot of holes in this proposed justification, so I won’t speak confidently on Bob’s success/outcome for what he did, but I’m certainly more confident that Bob intended to limit the eye’s gaze, not seal Dern beast itself

I feel like there’d be mention of it, though, through Ba’kal in RoL5, or some kind of reference by the eye. Something must’ve happened to keep Dern Beast contained, because surely they wouldn’t have resorted to so many underhanded alliances if it wasn’t at a disadvantage. Bob might have done something to the portal, or EO itself, but I’m not so sure that Bob would still be strong enough to have survived any encounter with Dern Beast directly. Even from 1.19, the more noticeable path the story seemed to take was that Bob had sealed EO/the portal off from accessing more of Wynn.

since, if we have to go to dern at some point of the history, it probably would be because bob can't contain the beast anymore and we might have to deal with it

I think a better reason for going to Dern would be the Light V Dark revelation through NoL, and the fact that we have just undone the seal to both SE and EO/the portal. We’ve even convened and communicated with the portal’s gatekeeper.

There’s a lot of more established, personal developments through the story that serve as to why we would even consider going to Dern, which is something I believe will be a topic within Fruma, where we will be aligning the world against Dern, the corruption, and possibly even Ba’kal

Bob’s survival just doesn’t seem like the kind of development this story is taking. How would he have even been able to survive an encounter within Dern? And, wouldn’t it make significantly more sense that his proposed quest to seal away darkness from further infection would have him sacrifice his very being into a seal

There’s a greater chance we see Lari than we do Bob, imo

1. Bob could’ve been sacrificed to seal EO (already said)
2. Bob could be the gatekeeper (a stretch) or at least twisted by darkness (but we already have Bak’al and maybe Lari)

It’s almost poetic, like he represents the history of Wynn and it’s legacy of heroism in fighting the evil, and he becomes not a villain, but simply an offerer of endings, a showcaser of every possiblity where evil could have won

There’s always the possibility that either Dern beast itself, or Ba’kal managed to put the seal onto EO, just so no one would be able to harm the eye and stop its gaze/allow anyone of substantial power into Dern. This could be another reason as to why Orphion was at such a disadvantage, since Dern Beast has been taking significantly more precautions to their battle. Sacrificing a powerful soul to gain access to Dern would definitely be something almost impossible for any creature of Light to do (idk how light and dark “souls” exactly work), especially if the RoL is currently under attack by a preplanned sneak attack.

However, Bob creating the seal has an equally sound level of merit to it, since he is explicitly written to have stated wanting nobody to be able to reach him. Him preparing a seal with a soul as powerful as his makes a lot of sense, and having the only way to gain access be sacrificing something similarly powerful incentivizes people to not breach the seal to Dern/EO.

I’ve asked before, and it’s apparently a random, inaccessible area in the silent expanse, which is why the eye is so prevalent throughout it. (It’s also why the eye can access us at all, but that’s a different theory since AJB and AJF are weird)

From my understanding, Bob hasn’t gotten an actual full on confirmation of the entirety of Dern Beast. He is aware of a piece of it, at least, and maybe aware of the realm it came from, at most. Orphion’s existence is talked about by the elves, but the actual nature of RoL doesnt have a lot of ingame stuff to properly state how many people are truly aware of the kind of war the world is in.

There’s a chance Bob had interacted with the elves in aldorei, but there isn’t anything in game to support this, meaning we only have Farcor, some catalogs in the Llevigar and Cinfras Libraries, and his interactions with Nilrem, maybe even some more powerful Mages from Mage island itself.

Regardless, he definitely knows of Dern’s existence, but he isn’t depicted knowing that the eye isn’t all there is to it.

However, there must have been some kind of revelation, where opening the expanse to anyone could risk destroying the world as we know it, which lead to him realizing it’s smarter to seal it away from the rest of Wynn, with only the eye itself having any sort of real influence

I was listening to this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZTFy-6JT2c and i was like, imagine if there were still Olm in Dern trying to defeat the dern beast or followed you to help etc, and there was a small city in dern. You go there and the Olmic "Chief" kinda tells you their plan etc to do smtn to prevent bob from doing something and they give you an amulet that glows whenever any of the Olm leaders are present, this amulet has some type of magic to destroy some tower in dern to get a step closer to stopping some dastardly plan, once you get to this tower the heartbeat song plays and you think to urself with dialogue something like this:
is... the amulet not glowing?
Elder <olmic name> said that this lit up with magical energy when the olm were around...
you need to go check in on the Olm... NOW
then once you get back that song i linked plays as you walk through the city/cave of brutally murdered Olm and once you get to the end (around 1:26 in the song) you see a shadowy figure (bob) who says something to you as you're just like... after all this time... THIS is bob.. and he just killed all the rest of the olm.... made the olm extinct.... then he disappears in a cloud of smoke or something and you complete the quest

I feel like the Olm are connected to the Dern Beast in a similar way to how the elves are to Orphion. Not exactly a part of it but definitely beings of darkness

Strange that the Dern beast would have much attachment to it, then. Both Orphion and DB are depicted as more instinctual, animalistic beings. They’re selfish and only do what is necessary for them to survive. DB, however, does display more noticeable intelligence than Orphion, alongside being depicted as the more cunning, conniving of the pair. Maybe, that added intellect gave it some innate pettiness

I have a completely unfounded theory here, but maybe the Olm were destroyed because they found out something they weren't supposed to? I mean, they do a lot of astronomy and whatnot, they found out in time about the cosmic event that would have hit the province and moved from time valley, and there's also a secret Discovery in SE where they're looking through a telescope when the Dern Beast attacks, and they were able to control the four crystals

So maybe all their research brought up something that the Dern Beast didn't want them to know and that's why they were killed

Like I said, completely unfounded, but it's the only explanation I can find for the Dern Beast attacking the Olm
