It's between wenn die soldaten
And
Hold on lemme find the other one

Here are my Great Grandads medals if anyone is interested
Dope
Thanks
We got a WW1 victory medal, a 1914-15 campaign medal, and a war medal, all British medals
All three medals were never awarded on their own, always together
Ah thats interestinh
So I take it
- you're British
- your great grandfather survived the entire war
Wrong on the first part
Irish
And he went on to join the IRA
Oh that's neat
My grandfather was a Specialist in the US Army in the 1960s
Oh cool
What'd they do?
Specialist is a rank, and I think he was a mechanic(?)
Oh, so he'd like work on trucks and stuff?
Not entirely sure, just remembering what I was told years ago
I have a cousin who was wounded in Afghanistan
They alright?
Last I heard, yes
Good to hear man
My next door neighbor for the last 18 years served in the US Air Force
He was a good family friend, and me and my siblings often called him our uncle
However he passed away last month
I remember being told that he once got a letter from Ronald Reagan when he was president, and because of it he named his dog Regan
He also supported my love for history and would sometimes give me books from his personal collection
Sorry for your loss
Thank you, it's ok
German flee market today
Thats a cool bike
Found old helmet from the IDF
M16 steelhelmet
German air raid bunker in my city. Before it was build there stood the Jewish Synagoge but it was burned down in 38
You can See the Model Becaus of the Horns and how big It is compared to the ww2 ones. Also you can See its an m16 and Not an m17 becaude the Helmet strap was combined with the helmet and not the Liner inside the helmet
Well yes
Also thats really interesting too
Im glad i can teach people about that stuff
It looks kind of eerie
History is a fun subject imo
Well over 100. Years old
The german army supported the ira thats the reason they had german helmets
@vagrant lotus has leveled up! (12 ➜ 13)
As this one was used by the Defence Forces in the 1940s
Which is when he served again
Well funny is
When germany started the Battle of poland many soldiers had to wear old ww1 steelhelmets which were reissued because the factorys didnt made enough m35 helmets
Oh so they needed to rusb production
I thought that was only for tanks
And motorised too
Saw it on a BBC documentary
Well the war was planned tk start in 1942 but hitler was in a rush so the army was a bit underequiped at the beginning
Never knew thag
Also used some old as weapons sometimes
But that was mostly in poland
In france they were equipped good again
Because the phony war?
Here a comparison. A spanish comrade wearinb an original m16 helmet at the 1940 event and me with the m35
You see the difference
The old model was way chunkier
Yeah
Thats the word i was looking for
Here is a photo of the Irish Free states National Army general Richard Mulcahy (right)
I ranked every Roman Emperor on Youtube? Guess who was last
And it is super obvious
Caeser?
no.he was dictator nor emperor
Nero?
He murdered Christians
I didn't put him very high either. Also, so did Decius, Valerian, and Diocletian. And if Nero was as bad as Honorius, he wouldn't even be bottom. Nero reigned for 14 years. Honorius ruled for 30.
Another memorial I found in my city
there is a WW1/2 krupp naval cannon not long from me I can probably take a pic tomorrow
about like 3km away
Anyone a fan of the old west in America
Yes

The step between the HJ and becoming a soldier
Dope
A flag within a flag within a flag within a flag
Also vexillology is technically speaking a breach of history
yall know whats annoying?
seeing a ww2 aircraft related tiktok and seeing the comments be dumb
the Me 262 was a waste of metal, its extremely overrated.
and the Ju 87 was also trash in comparison to other dive bomber aircraft of the time
like the D4Y or SBD
both of which have higher bombload and higher top speed
and are also carrier based too
only reason the ju87 is popular is because it could easily destroy underequipped small militaries of tiny nations
And because of the iconic siren

now that i think about it
if the anglo japanese alliance didnt break down ww2s pacific front wouldnt happen but WW1 may have happened in 1904 if france joined russia against japan
we could have prevented millions of deaths if britain didnt fuck over japan in the washington naval treaty
@sick jolt
Oof
It shoots 40mm airsoft shells or taginns
Japan would still try and kill the Chinese though
and then the USA Would oil embargo among other things
and then pearl harbour
that was in 1937
japan shouldve scrapped the 8-8 plan tho(8 battleships, 8 battlecruisers)'
wouldve saved their economy and democracy
they were a democracy from 1905 to 1932
and became a dictatorship under tojo with hirohito as a figurehead in 1933
ah yes the slow but deadly
The first book was printed in 1693, the second was printed some time in the early 1700s
Stored at the Seminary Library in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the oldest public library in the country
Over 7000 books from the 15th and 16 centuries, mostly written in Latin and German.
Is it strange that I like history research assigments for school?
Nope, especially if it's a topic you're interested in
at the battle of stamford bridge in 1066 one viking is said to have killed 40 anglo-saxons giving his army time to prepare a shield wall
they promptly got demolished and it marks the end of the viking age
I know it's a hot take but the quote
"we will not capitulate - no, never! we may be destroyed, but if we are, we shall drag a world with us - a world in flames."
Wir kapitulieren nicht, niemals. Wir können untergehen, aber wir werden eine Welt mitnehmen. Eine Welt in Flammen"
From
Adolf Hitler
I think apart from it bringt hitler who said that and what he did before thats one of the Best war Quotes Ive ever heard. After that the Enthusiasm must have been like 110% as sad as it sounds
Also legendary
the stuka is slower
the d4y was 220kmh faster
same bombload

JFK’s torpedo boat was sunk in world war 2
Jacobitism is a much better lost cause than the Confederacy
The Great Depression gotta be my biggest opp
Almost singlehandedly caused BOTH theaters of WW2
caused the European theater because with the great depression, the Americans couldn't loan money to Germany, which hyperinflated the economy, which in turn let political instability give rise to the no no germans
Caused the Pacific theater because with the great depression in japan, political instability came and gave rise to the militarists which over a few years eroded the democratic government and became a fascist dicatorship
i blame calvin coolidge
Forgot bought a new picture. Upper right
Do you not know that person?
a lot of his family served in the Wehrmacht and beyond during ww2 so I'd say it's safe to assume that it's a family member
Nope
Just a random wehrmacht soldier portrait
I know the other persons ob the picture tho
Raymond Moulton Seághan O'Brien (29 December 1905 - 31 March 1977) was a British-born American businessman, founder of the far-right Irish United Christian Nationalist Party and a pretender to the extinct Earldom of Thomond and the Barony of Ibracken. He claimed to be the Prince of a fictitious microstate known as the Principality of Thomond.
My dad just walked into my room and handed me this
According to him it’s 10 million German marks from 1923
inflation was crazy
It definitely says "Zehn Millionen Mark" which means "Ten million Mark" so yeah it definitely is ten million
So crazy in fact that banknotes were littered across the streets and people would use them as kindling for fires and children would play with them. They were so worthless that they could be easily expended with little repercussion or consequence.
it’s probably worth more now than it was when it was actually accepted as a currency

The time Boris Yeltsin was so hammered on a visit to Ireland he couldn't get off the plane.
The Taoiseach is stood up by the President of the Russian Federation when Boris Yeltsin fails to emerge from his plane at Shannon Airport.
Russian President Boris Yeltsin’s plane touched down at Shannon Airport an hour later than expected. However, this was just the first in a chain of extraordinary events to unfold during what was to be Boris ...

Kid named the Boxer Insurrection:
On November 29th, 1943, in the Second Session of the Antifascist Council for the National Liberation of Yugoslavia (AVNOJ), the state of the Democratic Federal Yugoslavia was established. The provisional state had the National Committee for the National Liberation of Yugoslavia (NKOJ) serving as its executive body while Josip Broz Tito primarily governed it. On November 1st, 1944, an agreement between Tito an Subasic was reached in the Partisan-controlled Beograd in which Tito was to be the prime minister while Petar II was to be the titular ruler. However, such was not established until March 7th, 1945 due to a regency dispute. Throughout 1945, communists worked on to abolish the monarchy and having won the parliamentary election with all 354 seats in the federal assembly, the de jure monarchy was officially abolished on November 29th, 1945, exactly two years after the establishment of the Democratic Federal Yugoslavia.
Kurt Salterberg the Last Witness auf the Assasination attempt on Adolf Hitler on the 21st of June 1944 died on the 21. of November 2023 with 100 Years old. Met him in RL,signed his book for me and some pictures. Great man
Reenacment Battle of France 1940.
Picture from last Oktober
109 years ago, the Great War was five months underway, and across the Western Front, soldiers on both sides laid down their weapons and called for temporary ceasefires, which would later be known as the Christmas Truce of 1914. Soldiers climbed out of their trenches and joined their foes in the celebration of Christmas. Gifts like cigarettes, food, and wine were given, soldiers told their new friends of their families and exchanged stories and laughter, sang Christmas carols, and the Brits and Germans even had a soccer match (it is said that the Germans won, and on November 11th, 2008, men from the Royal Welsh Fusiliers played a match against the German Battalion 371 on the very site their regimental ancestors played during the Christmas Truce. The Germans won 2-1.)
Unfortunately, this ceasefire was temporary, and soldiers would return to their trenches and the war would continue the next day and wouldn't end until almost four years later, and hundreds of thousands more would die. Lest we forget!
Why didn't they do this in WW2?! This was something wholesome and it really painted the picture of humanity between the two young soldiers who had a great time and yet they knew that they had to go back to kill one another because the old men have said so. So sad and yet so wholesome.
Dunno. 🤷♂️
Then again, why didn't they do this for every conflict?
I remember hearing talk about a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine but I don't think it ever happened
Well a small ceasefire between 6 soldiers happend in 1944 in the Ardennes
Ukraine refused
I think they assumed Russia would take advantage of it
