We already got some Infos on the official Aion2 Website about the Story of Aion2

The collapsed Aion Tower

At the end of the Celestial War, the Aion Tower collapsed. Amidst distrust, the barrier failed to be established, and the clash between the three races swallowed up the light of the world. The tragedy of that day would later be known as the "Last War."

divided world

On the day the tower collapsed and the barrier disappeared, the dragons flocked to the heavens, and the remaining gods used their last strength to build a wall...

Between Eltenen and Interdica, a curtain of light rose, dividing the worlds and binding the heavens in a silent severance.

Ciel's absence, a line drawn in blood

Like the sacrifice of the god who protected the world long ago, this barrier was also built through painful sacrifice.

Ciel, the tower's guardian, vanished, and the remaining five gods poured all their strength into completing the barrier. Some perished, others quietly lost their light. But at the end of these sacrifices, the barrier was finally completed

Shadow of the Dragon Lord

The moment the barrier disappeared, Atreia gained the name 'Battlefield'.

Ishtar and Fafnir - the two dragons were unstoppable, devouring Poeta with fire and shadow.

Beyond the celestial barrier, countless lives were lost at their feet.

Fallen Blessing, the Fall of Daeva

Beyond the barrier, Deva's awakening was no longer a blessing.

Under Ishtar's command, the Devas were hunted and made into fuel for the Surana.

Those used in the experiment were eventually revived as mutants and turned their swords on their own kind.

In this way, the light of blessing was covered with a curse.

I'm interested in finding out more but I also don't want to sift through 10 year old videos. Content creator bros, hello? You're dropping the ball. Build hype by making a lore-related video; get people grounded in the world of Atreia or whatever tf

That would be nice, and also a huge undertaking. There's a lot of side stories and a huge case of unreliable narrators on both sides. There are records of historical Atreian events that are agreed upon by both sides, and just as many subject to personal interpretations and speculation, primarily how the interaction between Zikel and Deltras went down and what the fallout was.

I think the ambiguity of past events is partly what made Atreian history so beautiful, and it's still very possible for a lore channel to capture that uneasy feeling of record-keeping with tinted lenses. It would be a lot of content and a lot of disclaimers that certain versions of events may not be the correct one.

Anything that follows the Cataclysm is also subject to a lot of disclaimers, as Live and Classic embarked on two different timelines, and AION2 itself seems to push a third timeline entirely.

So true. Yeah, the original writing really reads like a series of tabletop roleplaying books to me. Like they have their setting, a couple main campaign books for Elyos and Asmodians, and then a million billion supplementary books. Honestly, I think Aion would make an amazing tabletop setting if anyone sat down to make a robust system for it.

It's almost something of an identity crisis, because much of the writing seems to scream "War Bad", but the game incentivizes and rewards playerkilling, faction griefing, so on--so of course both Aion Live and Classic would only progress on a series of battlegrounds for players to kill each other on, and no actual progress on a world that maybe wants to escape the loop of its tragedy.

A lot of people are actually really into the atmosphere and worldbuilding, so of course they dropped like flies when NCSoft started nuking old zones, seemed to cut down on the writing team, etc. It does make me apprehensive how they'll handle it in AION2 and if we'll see the same sort of creative decay.

Sorry I'm late. Basic Aion 2 Lore as we understand it through proper translation, cross referencing, and localisation:

The "Final Cataclysm" has taken place between Aion 1 and Aion 2. This event was the moment Siel's spell (which had been weakening for all of Aion 1 and was a major part of the early story) finally wore off and the Cataclysm that began 1,000 years ago resumed. What remained of the tower shook itself to pieces, but after 1,000 years the Empyrean Lords finally learned Siel's lesson and gave up major portions of their power to create protective aetheric barriers to protect what they could.

Some Empyrean Lords have been weakened, and it is suggested some did not survive at all. We know Nezekan, Zikel, Triniel, Vaizel, Azphel and Ariel all survived.

The sacrifice of the Empyrean Lords caused a major aether-infusion into the lands they barricaded and this terraformed them into something resembling a pre-cataclysm land. This is how zones that were previously wrecked by major events (such as Verteron) have been made livable once more. They are geographically the same "places", but much of the landscape will be unrecognisable beyond a few key points. It seems that this aether infusion contributed to the Asmodians evolving back into a more pre-cataclysm form now that they no longer need to adapt.

Fafnir and Ishtar seem to be two new Dragon Lords to replaced the deceased Tiamat and Ereshkigal. The name "Ishtar" has many connotations to the character of Innana introduced in Live 7.0. The prophecies we saw in 7.7 may very well have come true, and Inanna might have ascended into a Dragon Lord herself and taken the name Ishtar.

So Atreia is still divided into Elysea and Asmodae, but the territories have shrunk and beyond their barriers is a far more dangerous world than Aion 1. There are still five Dragon Lords, and only 6 confirmed Empyrean Lords (half of the original 12, excluding the Archdaeva)
