nice
good evening
greetings!
Got a little distracted since I got back lol
This ain’t going well 😂
Promise I’ll do some tonight
Yipeee! Cant wait to see map progress
Hello censorpoint
Hello 507001 “PEP”
Hello censorpoint
very nice
can we see?
glad to hear
oh
i thought you meant as "not much openttd, but i did a little" so i thought that was referencing the map
still great
I did man, i worked on it this morning but had some meeting and then went for dinner
Had a lot of real world stuff since I was away for a week and do social media and writing for a living
who wants to know what my cpu is?
Intel 8086?
nice
Yeah
good evening lads
How’s it going
Terraforming and placing towns. The coast is much easier to do than London
Cities placed
Yep
very real
Although OpenTTD doesn't have the capability to simulate "We apologise but the 1832 to Shoeburyness has been cancelled because someone took a dump in the vestibule"
I'm going to come back to london as I have some ideas on how to execute but honestly is so slow paced it will be easier to finish the coast and then come back to it
very nice
i only now realised there are cities just called ???????????
Its the lucky train, your destination is a secret
correct
chelmsford 🙏❤️
Think Ive got a good density at the moment
city density?
never have i seen such a chelmsford veg
considering its where i reside its not surprising
fair
As in town separation. Not keen to have too much going on
Ah, Fair enough
If anyone’s seen the work @fleet frost is doing I’d check it out. Really enjoying his sprites
?
the logic isnt logic-ing
Going to try and get to kings lynn this evening
His GRF is good #1429587322944622602
anglian i see
i am aware of its existance, not too shabby to be fair
in the BRTrains discord theres a couple channels about it aswell
sulphurs probably better to talk to about it then i am lmao
Best to get it all polished off. Will finish the Harwich river mouth another day. I can’t perfect it.
yes
how long do you think itll take you to finnish the whole UK? out of curiousity
I wanted it done by the end of the year but seems unrealistic
Since my trip away I’ve been inundated with projects and this is the busiest time of the year for my company
January to March I’ll be quiet so let’s aim to have it polished off by then. We still making progress
yes, i hope you find someone to help you out
If we can find a way to take it online like @rigid pier suggested we could get it done quickly. Not sure it would be to my taste but it would be done
@dreamy dome also working on a suggestion
literally just make a MP server with the map, enable infinite money and enable players to place towns. make sure it has a password or is protected in some way and DM the people who want to help that password. you wouldnt be able to delete a town (name and all) if you misplaced it but thats really the only drawback. heck you could have the server paused the whole time and enable building while paused so the towns dont grow while youre working
Wait you guys dont use the scenario editor?
Wouldnt that be easier
afaik you cant run the scenario editor as multiplayer
but if i was doing this singleplayer id absolutely use it
as it stands im not involved in this project at all, aside from my multiplayer suggestion
ah
fair enough
i could do some in my local area if that helps, although ive never made scenarios before, Surely it cant be that hard right?
right?
It’s not hard, the main thing for now reshaping the coast and placing the towns as accurate as possible
dont you have the entire UK geographically already set? how come you have to mame coastlines
They aren’t perfect, some deformities as the map is at 16k x 16k
You can see it here where the lowest layer sticks out
i see mersea island will have to be redone lmao
Height maps don't always account for tides, or may be slightly offset vs TTD's heights
Could probably have been fixed with an adjustment initially, but it's a bit late for that now with towns placed etc
Interesting
whats this
thought there was something odd on the topic of weird scenario generation
nah thats just north cambridgeshire
Very nice
Im curious on the 16k x 16k if its gonna be possible to have realistically sized depots without having to look twice the size od the city theyre in, like long marston or neville hill (leeds)
Tbh im not sure how large youre making cities based on real life population so i dont wanna get my hopes up
cities will be put into a spreadsheet and then made to represent their size in comparison to census data
But we aint even close to that lol
Do you have a formula for this or something?
guestimation
Like per 1000 you put 200 in game population or smth
Fair enougg
Yipeee
Im gonna go bed now, ill have a look what you send tommorrow (if you do at all)
It’s a start
Yup will keep it moving!
im curious how accurratly youll get my area, youre basing it off google maps so i assume pretty nicely
Inland will be the tricky part in my experience
Coast is easier because you always have a good reference point of the coast line, rivers etc which makes it easy enough
Placing something halfway through the Brecon Beacons…. Not so much
i think if you put the largest cities first then keep adding towns/suburbs around it should be easy
you can reference points from which youve already made
Yup, even coast is pretty hard but we will manage
It works for some areas, not so much for like Builth Wells or something
Like for a lot of areas you can just kinda circle in from the corners, but some areas are really very remote
Builth wells
Is that some nobody place
It's (more or less) on the Heart of Wales line
Yes its some nobody place in central wales
Figured
Technically the station is a village next to it
I mean ive never done scenarios, id help if i had the experience but like... i dont, now that audi is part of the great code revolution of BRtrains it would be nice to have something to do while thats happening
Only way to get experience is to start
I quite prefer this way of doing the rivers
might have to go back and fix older parts but we are moving steady
I quite like how this looks
Holy
I did underestimate the 16k by 16k aspect of this map
If the humber is that massive already its slightly concerning
Pretty realistic scaling imo
Yeah 16x16K is a BIG map
I don't think I've ever fully finished a 4K x 4K map, and that's with fairly low detailing (generic 4-6 platform stations in most places rather than eyecandy ones with bays, custom station designs etc)
Yea thats why im not a huge fan of the 4k by 4k, stations like waterloo and crewe with its many depots are difficult to recreate because depots and station area is probably 5 times larger then the town population
4K is a good "big" map with balance for reality and normal gameplay. I'll be interested to see how this 16K one is to play though - I feel like it'll need a VERY long term game to work
I'm planning to use it for like a 2yr game or something
Didnt know you acctually play openttd, thoughr you just dev for it, im hoping to make a long-term save as now i havent made one in a year, however that was very unrealistic so im looking for a bit more realife accurate one
Also maybe another chuffing stations update will appear by then, chuffing stations seems to go really well with BRTrains tbf
The problem will be profitability. Goods hit a point where they don’t make money and then the game results in being unprofitable
I dont mind
Ill probably be playing with sandbox mode as imo id rather recreate the UK as accuratly as possible without having to worry about profits as such
haha in theory I play, in practice not really - I start a game, notice a missing unit, then get caught up in development again
Sounds like someone has a case of the OCD, once you add every unit you can happily retire and play in peace
Yeah I see it more as a model railroad type map too. I'll whack the running cost param down to low and just add cash if I need to. Pax usually still works out over long distances too
haha yeah, maybe one day - depends how thorough I decide to be with the kettles. Modern (privatisation onward) units aren't far off the point where I'll only need to add new liveries or units that are launched, but earlier stuff there's still a lot to add
But anything pre-privatisation I'm really only adding for other people tbh, I don't actually use it in my own games
Theres alot of first gen and type 2&3 diesels missing
…which aren’t “privatisation onward” 😉
Im saying in an unrelated context
Nobody will ever understand the amount of time this map has taken already
Cleaned up one of the worst part. Good Night
Nice
I’ve done a 4K x 4K, I definitely understand 😂 fantastic project though
Just make sure you’re taking backups of the scenario file and putting them on the cloud or something at least
I have got 2 saves at the moment. After the first time I’m definitely not doing it again
very nice
im curious how storage depots will look, long marston, worksop, ely potter/papworth etc
Should be plenty of space for most of them
Longsight or that HS1 one in London might still be tight
You just gotta be smart. Its not 1 to 1
OOC?
Longsight is in manchester and its not too large tbh
I’m more thinking the fact they’re in cities where the track work will be relatively tight anyway
Isnt that like... every big city
Birmingham probably wouldn’t be too bad, the depot is further out of the part that will be super crowded with tracks
Same with most other depots. Eg Glasgow’s isn’t really on a densely-tracked area. Whereas Manchester already struggles to have space for Piccadilly even at 16K, and London is guaranteed to be tight whatever you do
dont think so tbh
londons big enough to fit most things in, some things will have to be stretched and shrunk a bit, like the tube map in itself
you said yourself londons big enough to be its own scenario,
Not had much time to work on it
take it easy
good evening
Hey bro, hope your good
im not bad how about you
What did you use for these dirt roads
they look like Timberwolfs roads
I am back, made some progress today. I had to leave the country for work. Got a day trip to Amsterdam and then we settled for Christmas so hopefully I can just get it done
🎄
Didnt know you went abroad, i hope it went well for you 👍
