The heightmap is a Clutz one I think. It felt pretty japanese so I went with it. It's just called "hills" in my game files though...
Here's what currently is the largest urban area (and where i started building)
Nakagawa Main station:
With two through platforms on the outer sides. The middle track is reserved for reversing trains and some freight trains carrying food and alcohol for further distribution via the truck stop adjacent to the station.
I also have this area which I plan to merge into a large city in the future:
They have a common bus system and good supply of food, alcohol and other materials needed for the growth of the city (since i use RVG).
Introduced a new service terminating at Nakagawa station. This required an increase of capacity at Nakagawa station (ok not really, but it'll eventually need to expand anyways)
I'll build a typical japanese main station with shopping centers when I unlock those station tiles (in 1960 I think)
With the help of these I'll try to effectivise my mail network (make it more realistic). By that I mean removing the mail cars that I strapped to my MUs, in favour of dedicated mail trains and mail trucks
Instead of stopping at all stations these express mail trains will stop at major towns/interchanges for further distribution by truck
A hub-to-spoke model essentialy
Bought my first boat and started an archipelago service connecting 2 harbours on the mainland and 1 island!๐พ
Tried to do some eye-candying at the harbours
Most proud with the right one though
Referring to the right image, the one where you can see the train station
The big shed is a truck loading area and the building right of it is the passenger terminal. You have to go through there to acess the docks as a passenger so they check your tickets there!
Rebuilt Asawa station too, now that there's a new line running there (the small single track one)
Asahi trucks on their way to pick up the beer at Nakagawa station
Might add a dedicated Freight station for some eyecandy
Just like I did over at Takikuni station:
The freight station can also be used for freight trains wanting to overtake stopping local trains
Eye-candying Freight Stations is hard but I did my best, still trying to fit in the Japanese theme by using the new JP+ cargo stations
Right now it looks quite empty but it'll get more traffic when i connect nearby industries and extend the line southwest
A new industrial hub in progress, this onw with connections to the sea. Hopefully the harbour will look as good as this part that I'm quite proud of!
Note: WIP
Update!
Not entirely sure about the eye-candying though...
Once I enter 1960 (very soon) I'll get acess to ISR's container stations though
The station has different sections for handling different cargoes. Here is the bulk cargoes. The trucks dump the cargoes (in this case Nitrates) in the shed. Conveyor belts transport them for further shipping via ship or train (see yellow arrows).
The lagre brown warehouse is for freights like food, mail, building materials and fruit. The container port explains itself.
Only 2 years until I unlock the Shinkansen!
I'll wait with it though since capacity ain't a problem yet
and I'm still concentrated in a small area
Hey there! I love what you did with the map so far, and will be following further developments with great interest, thanks for sharing! ๐
You seem to strike a nice balance between functionality and eyecandy, managing to do both without having to let one suffer because of the other.
Are those fake bridges, crossing the water to the NE of Asawa station? They seem to be level with the banks, which is interesting.
Yes fake bridge, it's a waypoint
Aww thank you! That's actually what I'm aiming for!๐
I'm so happy that there's people reading my posts<3
I only just found out about it today, after a couple weeks spent travelling, but it is a very nice surprise to come back to indeed! Keep up the good work ๐
Do you want to share where you have been? You don't have to ofc, I'm just curious
Introduced grade-separation on the passenger line through Nakagawa! The empty space between the passenger station and the freight terminal is reserved for a potential future Shinkansen
Together with this upgrade, 15-minute service intervals have been introduced on the busiest commuter line, the Shuyogawa line!
New stock with higher top speed was introduced to enable more frequent services with less trains
๐
Don't really need it yet though. Planning to expand my railway empire with conventional lines first
And when things start to get real messy, I'll maybe buil HSR
Finally I'm starting to close up these production lines (circles) since I'm finally able to produce Farm-/engineering supplies, though in limited quantities.
But it will increase, for example you can see the new oil train in the bottom right of the picture. That oil will be processed and eventually used as supplies for farms and industries.
Your trains are quite short, how are you able to keep up with the production of cargo and passengers? Bigger daylength value?
Yes half-way correct, it's because I play with day length but also since those short trains are just for delivering supplies to towns/industries to satisfy RVG requirements and production increase requirements respectively, then I don't want to transport any more than necessary
And instead split the production between as many towns/industries as possible!
I had reserved space, for future shinkansen, where the sidings are now but the station got too busy so I had to expand the narrow guage part!
Maybe I'll do a "Shin-" station outside the city like in Hakodate.
But still there's no need for Shinkansen, so I'll just wait and see how I'll do it.
Rebuilt Kagoshima station so it could handle more traffic. Now it has mostly grade separated junctions and more platforms.
Track 1: Southbound trains coming from the north, through traffic only
Track 2: Southbound trains coming from the northwest, through traffic only
Track 3: Passing track for Freight trains (both directions)
Track 4s & 5s: Reversing trains coming from the south
Track 4n & 5n: Reversing trains coming from the north
Track 6: Nortbound trains coming from the south, through traffic only
Track 7: Nortwestbound trains coming from the south, through traffic only
This arrangement should be able to handle traffic for a long time forwards, hopefully I won't have to change anything on this station until I'll build Shinkansen. Will do some more eye-candying though.
Since the freight passing track (blue) is only single track trains might have to wait for clearance. To not affect passenger trains I've added sidings (yellow) where the freight trains can wait for a slot without blocking other trains!
New Tobu trains for the busiest Limited Express line!
The new trains can reach 120km/h which means faster trips and more capacity on the line! To deal with the increasing need for capacity I've doubled the whole line and built a new tunnel! I've also raised the speed for cargo trains where possible to minimize interference with the express trains.
The railway through Tamimura has also been rebuilt to reduce noise pollution from the many freight trains heading to the nearby port. This also gives more space for the city to grow and thrive. There's also a new bus service connecting the different parts of Tamimura and Takihama, two previously underserved areas.
Came back to this savegame and now I want to decorate the landscape with fields, stones, etc.
i just found this thread and i hope you can continue this im really interested ๐ซ
I'll post when I have something somewhat interesting to show๐
I find it really hard to make this station's junctions look natural
Maybe I should just skip the flyovers
Just type that into bananas and you'll see everything there is
Thx, let me give that a try
New station and freight terminal, still WIP. I want to do more eyecandy on the freight terminal and grow the town of Kagoshima. In the future I'd like to service Kagoshima with Shinkansen but I'm not yet sure how that would work out
Programmable signals are confusing me
I know how I want them to act but not how to code them
Nevermind, now it works. I redid some code and will continue on making the area more visually appealing
New freight terminal that has yet to see much action
I will start rationalizing my freight traffic and do less local freight. This to ease congestion in anticipation of future expansions of my lines
Instead I will have hubs like these evenly spread throughout my network
Perhaps I should move the large passenger station to the SE of the city instead of SW. That would make the turns more natural
Well this feels safe ๐
Did that and it looks much better
More space for the city to expand and passing tracks for freight running under the station
I want this to eventually become a huge hub with Shinkansen
The area encircled in red will become a huge urban area. The orange lines is where I'd like to expand regular railways and purple is where the shinkansen would go
