Rico London
Waarom is hier 30 kanker graden
This station is Packer
16:40-16:52 Hammersmith & City: King's Cross St. Pancras - Royal Oak
Should have done Thameslink
Google maps told me to take this
Farringdon next stop southbound on Thameslink, change for Lizzy
Changing is kinda annoying
Also
The pay as you go system caps right
With contactless
Yes
Nice
It's cool how road crossings need a tutorial which way to look
I'm not gonna get this I think
Which way are you going
Yes
As long as you use the same card
I can send you the caps in a minute
Southeastern HS and cable car aren’t included into cap
The reception guy talks ultra fast
What's the third column
weekly
so over a week (mon-sun) you cannot pay more tha £40.70 for zone 1-2 for example
What should I do tonight
how long are you here for again
what do you want to see
yeah
Beer
Go explore the city
Oh no Dutch embassy
Nederlanders
This is good
I'm gonna grab dinner and then take random trains
Spoons
Maybe tomorrow
The hostel had free dinner but it was kinda inconvenient to go there now again
I got 5 guys
It's even more expensive here
But I already anticipated this
nice
It is kinda turbo bad
what area are you
Kensington now
I think this is a very posh area
This is by far the most frisse hoofdstad I've visited so far
Closest is frisheid would probably be Copenhagen
Wetherspoons is full of lonely, angry old men who eat and drink on their own...
You'll be fine
Sounds like a good place for me
kensington is very posh yes
thames from westminster bridge to tower bridge is a nice walk i think
you are in the worse part
pretty much fully pedestrianised
can confirm
going east it gets worse quite quickly
kensington is where it starts getting bad for car
and you dont want to be going more north than zone 1 because there is bad for car
I think Dutch cities might be the exception here
bad for car meaning big car
south of the river you can go quite far before you hit any busy big roads
but you have lots of busy small roads
Can I see trains there
you can see them crossing the river
you will see southeastern into charing X, thameslink into blackfriars + blackfriars station which is kinda cool and also cannon st
if you go vauxhall you can see cool view of 8 track mainline snaking through buildings
very cool
and its on wloo approach so quite busy
Let's see how many random trains I can do
all tube is good apart from picadilly line west of acton town and bkloo/overground on watford DC
oh and south london line closed
are you doing district down to richmond sorry
Oh
so youd have to go up towards shepherds bush
Then I will not do that
its running tomorrow
but not today
oh actually
you could still do part of it
nope engineering works ok
Can I go to willesdon
yes
watford DC line north of there is not running
but you can take overground down to euston
or bkloo south
or head towards stratford / richmond
ok
come to clapham
continue to waterloo
jubilee to london bridge
thameslink to farringdon
you could do a funny then
farringdon - moorgate (liverpool st) on crossrail
onto northern city line
18:47-19:16 District South Kensington - Richmond
I'll just see
I don't want to be back too late
if you will come through clapham tell me what train your on
/ what time it departed station
its probably still kinda spits in londen
Rush hour
yeah
Ok I'm really just gonna freestyle
Pay as you go work on all the national rail things as well right
With the cap
ues
london cool
this
It's pretty cool yes
You can use interrail for this
I've decided I'll probably come back here at a later point
I know but I'll reach the cap using the tube anyways
And I don't want to be messing around at gates
This doesn't really seem like a real place yet
New places usually don't
I don't like how the tube trains have opposing seats
I know this is good for reasons but I just don't enjoy awkward eye contact
This is more like a stoptrein than metro I think
We have a red signal
Gunnersbury
you are probably waiting behind overground train
We go again
now stations become further apart
Stoptreinen West London
you will have like 15 mins till next wloo train
how empty is rest of train
I'm vibing really hard
dont vibe too hard you might get hurt
Okay
But once you get on mainline rail you can vibe hard safely
Rico subsurface
Really small adult here
150cm
Small
But they don't have dwarfism build
Are they child
@hushed urchin do I need to go through the gates when transferring
you shouldnt have to
you will see sinage
This is kind of confusing
is there a purple reader
you can tap that when changing trainsd
Should I
you are changing to national rail?
Yes
if you are changing then tap it
Complexe systemen
Wait they have a tutorial
you dont have to tap them but especially when doing something like this its better to not get overcharged
there
Yes I need to do this
Rico ticketing system tutorial
rico will you take 1927 to waterloo
ok
19:27-19:48 SWR Richmond - London Waterloo
i will see this at clapham
Ok my plan doesn't work out
what are you trying to do
I thought maybe go to upminster
Then take dumb Romford shuttle
The crossrail back
But the shuttle stops at like 8
Ive done that
I can take c2c back instead
Wait really, it stops at 8?
The green line
district line again
you could do a bit of the goblin
gospel oak - barking line
youd go crossrail to forest gate, out of station interchange to wanstead park
overground to barking
then you can go upinster or whatever
its not a weird shuttle but its just funny overground lien
This is a lot of effort
understabdable
ok i will not see rico train today
These trains are very uncomfortable
this can be done tomrorow
they have bad seats
some of the other trains that run on that line have better seats
i only had 4. dont complain
you are like 60
Lots of tall buildings here
8 track mainline too
Plus it's actually 20:42
what
if you are too eepy you can cut with jubilee line - bond st then lizzy - paddington
but sleep is a societal construct and shouldnt hinder you
Wait no Waterloo and city line
no its weekend
if you need to get to bank/monument then go jubilee - london bridge, northern - bank/monument
I'll take the gray line to Stratford
no it makes sense
more scenic route would be take grey line to canada water
no this is bad
I'll dlr tomorrow
orange line has good views but going via highbury would take too long
actually its not too long
20:05 canonbury
then 20:28 stratford
but jubilee is quicker
but you dont get epicio view
Where the fuck is the jubilee
ah you are in ex eurostar terminal
go down the ramp and turn right, head towards platforms 1-4
then jubilee line tube entrance will be on the left
there should be sinage no
This is a very deep staircase
is this the tube entrance?
Yes
Your on the extension that’s like the second coolest part of the tube
Do they not let you order at the bar in London?
you’re the last person that even needs it anyway
I'm not vibing on this
There's human fecal matter here
How did this happen
It smells so bad
I understand why London is a shithole
@frank python
letterlijk
uitgang
The app is just far easier...
Ok this part of town is more onfris
rico londen
I still think it's weird to have a country where they just speak English
And not something weird like French
Almost as if that country is England innit...
East london
Just London in general Sinas
Man with nice dog
youre kinda right
this is why we should have had like esperanto as a lingua franca
No, English better
16 year old gangster boys here
Near Paddington
Crossrail back now then?
Yep
And then I'll just chill out I think
Man here eating a sandwich
20:31-20:50 Elizabeth Stratford - Paddington
My left ballsack it is, I'd rather queue at the bar and get my drink straight away
Plus there's less data recording too
One of the gangster boys is walking up and down next to me
He's sus
I'm waking away
The only thing on record is that I spent X amount at spoons on my bank statement, I'm not gonna have every single thing I order logged for marketing purposes and have that data sold on to fucking Mark Zuckerberg
Hell I'd get rid of my Tesco clubcard if there wasn't an Express round the corner from my house
pussy
Rico pickpocketed
I've literally had my drink turn up at almost the second I've paid, when the queue at the bar has been 5/6 deep...
he is strange person pilot
I'll stick to the app...
this is something you dont question
Spoons app is good
Oh no! Mark Zuckerberg knows you've got a Kopparberg Cider with your Bangers and Mash at Wetherspoons! How terrible! 😂
Other meals are available, but Will doesn't strike me as someone cultured enough to go for a curry 😂
Like I said, Luddite
Oh no, Zuckerberg has all this info on me 😂
But I shouldn't be bothering really, I don't even bother reading whatever you're replying with because I really, really couldn't give a fuck anymore
@floral cradle any more suspicious types?
Awwww, he's triggered
Fucking hell, platters and 2 pints
He is going to use this against you in the next cyber war
Oh no! He's gonna go "did you know Pilot once ate a burger in Helensburgh" and I'm gonna be so embarrassed
You will be canonmeat
In the next veggie world, you will be lynched and eaten for the juicy meats you had back then
Alright im done poking fun here
Not the veggie world! Oh no! 😭
I'm sorry oh Veggie overlords
Please forgive me for eating a juicy wetherspoons burger
Juicy ahhaha
Okay...
Mf microwaved ass meal
pilot Croydon
are you east croydon
Wait until he finds out where I've been too... oh almighty Zuck, please don't use this against me 😂
Yeah, that hotel is within 5 mins walk of East Croydon Station.
Zuck will just love all my map data and how many trains I take
Extremely cool how there's like zero 4g on the Elizabeth line
You're down there for like... 10 mins, do you really need 4G?
He is needy Dutchman remember
It's like 90% British people here
In Britain?! Who'd have thought it!
Also London tap water is slightly better than Brussels tap water but not much better
It's not tasty water
Yeah, we don't drink London tap water
Did you try Manc water?
I did
It's alright
Mah
Sinas has bad taste confirmed 😉
The stuff at home, or in romanian mountains is the real shit
Atleast its better than france
France do be having the worst
the waters usually ok
are you in an older building
Leaded piping?
Nah, London water is amongst the worst water in the UK Dum
I'd say "slightly better than Brussels" is the correct level of bad
in newer places its usually slightly better
but in older buildings you dont want to drink from the tap
I'm not dead yet...
Beglium also has terrible tapwater
when was the last time you checked
Limburg tapwater > rest of the netherlands tapwatee
tapwatee
Limburg straight from the quality source
urinal
flavouring
Checked my pulse around 10 mins ago
it has the cool quality of making you more thirsty after drinking
does your hostel not have a filter
i dont know
gn rico
plus is 0006
the fact you even have these lmao
some buildings have literal shit in their water systems
UK irl
you are coping as again you cannot afford studio croydon council flat
viellicht skin poses no resistance to stabby stab
but this is little the opposite of appealing to me
you are incorrect
🔪
8:01-8:40 Circle Royal Oak - Westminster
I hate how Google maps just stopped working
It keeps telling me to use scooters
I don't want to do this
Why are you travelling from Royal Oak to Westminster like this?
Change at Baker Street for Jubilee and its much quicker...
Train 205 (the one you're on), arrives Baker Street at 0810.
Assuming you're slow and didn't make the Jubilee until 0820, that arrives in Westminster at 0827...
(Obviously all moot as you'd long passed Baker Street by this point, but still, Rico bad Chewb user innit)
Because this way I could stay seated
And Google maps has a breakdown
It told be to use taxis and scooters
Is standing for 7 mins to save 15 mins really that bad? 😂
And tbf, you'd have likely made the train two in front and saved 20 mins.
Don't use Google Maps for transport in London... use a Pilot 😂
Good job
have fun
london bridge
This is very silly
But I like this
This is very Amsterdam Bijlmer
12:28-13:16 Southern London Bridge - Clapham Junction
Stoptreinen Zuid Londen
Rico will pass below here tomorrow
aaa I wake up 2 mins after Rico clap jam
nice
Rico if you are still at clapham the south London line is running again
It’s the orange line that doesn’t go to willesden
Rico clapping his ham
Wut?
Oh, I see what you're saying now...
You worded it hella poorly
Fair enough
13:50-14:16 Overground Clapham Junction - Willesden Junction
He wanted to do it yesterday
Rico how long did you spend in clapham
Watford DC and bakerloo line still isn’t running north of willsden
14:32-14:53 Overground Willesden Junction - Clapham Junction
@frank python I saw a class 66
RARE???
Amanet told me to ask this
66118?
You are coming back to clapham
I have 16 minutes
This is manageable
Rico train
15:15-15:45 Overground Clapham Junction - Shadwell
Shad well for DLR?
Can't wait for Rico to get lost doing this change.
I should set up a Pilot travels thread at some point...
This is needed
For DLR canary wharf would be better
Change white chapel for lizzy or Canada water for jubilee
Victoria line rammed
Now crosseail
Dum
Rico
15:56-16:02 DLR Shadwell - Canary Wharf
Oh ok
I was wearing small but now I wear meduim
you should have come, it would have been a cool UK meetup
16:34-16:40 DLR Canary Wharf - Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich
But I wasn't there so you couldn't nick my camera
What doing in curry sark
17:37-17:55 Southeastern Maze Hill - Canon Street
18:03-18:21 Circle Canon Street - Bayswater
did you walk cutty sark - maze hill
this is good
grenwich is nice
Yes
good
did you jump across it (important)
No
failed
did you straddle it
Actually maybe we didn't see it
We saw a thing
theres an actual line in he groundd where it is
I'm bus 7
I'm platform pls wait
This system is bad
8:03-12:05 GWR London Paddington - Par
I got assigned a window seat on the left
Also pilot WRONG
Train is 80% empty
They have little lights for the reservations
Why are you not using stoptreinen to plymouth.
I dissaprove of the route you do.
This is the comfiest UK train station far
this is way to semi highspeed looking
It is
I'm enjoying my last bourgogne comté stoptrein
Reservation was free btw
Moffen
They're instantly fighting because reservations
They're spots are reserved
Rico to Plymouth
They kicked people out
Dangerous
Even though the train is half empty
What do you make of our IETs?
This is the comfiest UK train I've had
Better than Eurostar
But it's still not great
Small tables
Hard seats
Have you been on an Eurostar
They're very compact
That's true but also just a theme of British trains
Especially if you're tall
Did you do many trains in London?
The 2+3 London trains were worse
Wait let me get this gwyd
If I teleported I probably took the tube
Yes
Nice
And walking up on the Greenwich hill
Maze Hill-Cannon Street is pretty cool
Yes I liked that
You can also get the service numbers of the UK trains if you like
Yes the London Bridge approach is very epic, especially around 6pm
You got a good variety
Yes
I wish I had more time in London
Also had a small argument with GWR woman if I could go through the gates already
Because the platform was on the board but not announced by sound already
This is very silly
Yes
Stoptreinen Zuid Londen tend to all be quite silly because it's all a mess
I liked this one
This is stupid
At Paddington if you get on the footbridge over the platforms you can get on your train before it gets announced
Also the gates don't understand my ticket
Oh stupid
So you always have to ask
Is this because it's interrail
Yes
Right
Very good
Extremely cool
Yes this is what poor investment in infrastructure looks like
The trains get to carry an extra few tons in diesel engine because we couldn't be bothered to electrify properly
Once it's off the wires is diesel electric
Also does the UK not have line culture
Because I got cut off twice in ten minutes
I stopped the third person by out assholing them
Very rude
Valid
Apparently there's some unusual diesel waiting at Southall
Look out the left window in a couple minutes
I think it's a skip?
I saw a steam train in use
Nice
That's for the Orient Express Pullman or something
There is a jam at Maidenhead
No
It's on the slow lines
But you'll see like 5 trains queued up
Yes the GWML is very quick and the IETs get up to speed very quickly
You cant ve hyped for fasttrains... stoptreinen is muy importante
Reading
Next station is in over 100km
Barry, 63 is here
He said cheers after ticket check
So cool
Just because there isn't reservations, doesn't make a train empty.
Fortunately, you appear to have lucked out.
Hmm nice
how do trains even jam
Sometimes it's just like
A train gets stuck for some reason
I once got in a train jam when they had a bridge strike
So they couldn't let any trains through for like 15 minutes
nice
On the GWML that means a queue
On your average UK line closing for 15 minutes means no delay to anyone
What's a bridge strike
You're telling me if there was a blockage at Reedham for 15 minutes there would be severe queueing?
Where a tall vehicle hits a low bridge
Something hits a bridge
Ah yes, because Reedham is the average line 😂
There are plenty of lines where nothing passes for more than 15 minutes
the bridge wants higher wages
Is this a common occurrence
There's plenty more where there's a much more frequent occurrence
Fairly common
Truck drivers are stupid
Hmm
I've been affected by it twice
nice
The truck falling on train sort of thing is less common
its pretty rare here I think
Lots of my trains in London were kinda delayed
usually level crossings cause fuck ups
Well here it's also just too much traffic over lines with too little capacity
Instructed to stop at signal before bridge, then proceed slowly and inspect the line
2 trains do that or something
Then it's all clear
We've got a bridge at work that is one of the most struck in the country... pita
Double track with trains every 5 minutes going at different speeds
cool system
So when one train is like 5 minutes late it fucks up
I think if something hits a bridge here they need ProRail guy to go look
This highly depends on the structure
Some bridges require inspection before any trains are allowed over them.
this happened in Gouda
Others will still be inspected, but later.
where the same boat hit the same bridge twice
This is the not important Gouda bridge right
pretty nice
yes
this just means half hourly instead of 15 min headway on unimportant branch
They've got a guy here servings drinks and snacks
The HSTs had proper Buffet cars, but they decided a trolley would be good for future...
they do get stuck at level crossings more
Virgin fought to keep the Buffet on their Azumas, and won
So LNER still have Buffet cars
UK trains often aren’t turbo long distance
This is so sad
London to Plymouth is only 3h
UK trains, buffet cars are worthwhile on journeys over 2 hours
I'd say it depends on how long between stops
I don't think anyone's advocating for buffets on the Cardiff-Penzance services
I absolutely am
No, they're commuter trains, fuck em
Only on the FLUs
I'm slowing down in a field
Oh also I only recently learned there were plans for TL to Ashford
Probably temporary speed restriction
Our just a curve...
Bad
Loosing time on open line with no traffic is embarrassing
Cool landscape here
Pretty cool how there's like nothing between Reading and Taunton
Tbf Gwyd, it lost most of it before Reading
There is
There's Newbury, Hungerford, Westbury, Frome, Castle Cary
You avoid Westbury tho
These aren't places
I mean, Newbury was worthy of electrification too
And Hungerford basically has it's own dedicated shuttle as Bedwyn isn't real
Oh no! You're +5 Rico!
I'll die
Do it
there was one at zandvoortline last year on F1 sunday when they run the crazy pendel timetable
And they managed to keep the timetable working despite the track being shut for 15-30min
Rico passing Cement Works at Westbury
And now on Westbury Avoider
Rico is doing 2 pieces of track that have been deemed worthy of including on the rare track list...
Despite the fact neither part is rare.
In fact, the Frome avoiding line is the normal route...
Rico, train ahead +28 shouldn't delay you but could.
Due to a 40mph TSR caused by vegetation.
Also then a 90mph TSR from the viaduct up to Heywood Road Jn
Which will have cost you 1 min
But, fortunately for you, a few of the timings round there are based on old HST timings, which your train will destroy.
I did a track you haven't done???
Oh okay that would be insane
Oh neat... they're letting the freight go in front of you...
It's 110 mins early...
If you want to do some track I haven't, get the Looe School trains
They go marginally further, up to Coombe Junction Halt
It depends on sinas
I want to see if i can do newquay, looe and falmouth with rico
Hmm what's the biggest city in Great Britain without a direct train to London
Salford
But Salford is basically just part of Manchester...
This is not a real independent city
Wait this is just fake Manchester
Discounting Salford, it's Dunfermline
Hmm
Population just less than 50k
This is very far
Countries with a direct train from everywhere to the capital are cool
This is France
Weert
Then the two fake Welsh cities of St Asaph and St Davids, combined population around 5k
So yeah, there's only 6 cities in GB without a direct train to London
Of which, 4 don't have trains at all
This is a list of cities in the United Kingdom that are officially designated such as of 12 November 2022. It lists those places that have been granted city status by letters patent or royal charter. There are currently a total of 76 such cities in the United Kingdom: 55 in England, eight in Scotland, seven in Wales, and six in Northern Ireland....
Also sinas told me to stay on this train till par
You also have big places like Huddersfield, Barnsley, Blackburn, Burnley, etc.
Huddersfield was meant to have a direct train by now, but Covid stopped that
But there's Grand Central that stop two towns over at Mirfield specifically for Huddersfield
Cool
Blackppol
Has direct trains from Avanti
The first one runs fast via the Trent Valley, the other two are slow via Birmingham
I am still dissapointed that covid cancelled that gc service
Same
9-car train from Blackpool to London that takes 4 hours..
After exeter is good
If you get off at Crewe at 1300, you can get the 1323 to London and arrive at 1503
Yes but that's effort
My god, this stops everywhere
Very slow 4h to Blackpool
People do a lot of effort to avoid transfers
Or, get the 1125 Blackpool to Preston, arrive at 1149 and get the 1201 to London, arriving at 1412.
Oh what stops at SAD
So it's doable in less than 3 hours.
There are lnwr services that stop less
All Avanti's do on that stretch.
They're silly trains to maintain the northwards connections from Birmingham whilst also not removing a Birmingham - London train
There's also these...
Walking pace
Just get the train either side...
Still quicker than this is to Brum
Yeah but that's via EDB
aye
Why does this train ride take so long
This is like an hour longer than the eurostar
Trains longer than 2 hours shouldn't exist
Because the speed is slower, and it travels further?
Makes sense
The XC travels to Birmingham in 404 miles
The whole Eurostar to Amsterdam is only 369 miles
The Avanti travels to Birmingham in 296 miles
Which isn't too dissimilar a distance to London - Paris (307 miles)
And by comparison, the train to Birmingham:
- calls 9 times en-route.
- can only do a maximum of 125mph
- has to curve through the hills of southern Scotland and the Lake District
yes this is good.
@floral cradle welke wagon
H
very nice vibes
you guys should go beach
uk beach is probably pretty nice place to get drunk
especially if the weer is like this
good rating
🤣
Totnes
@random dove opinion on this font?
0/10 no univers
tho cool scenery
windows xp hill except only the curve with completely different vegitation
UK lore
2N06
Luxurious
Rico bepis
have fun in fowey
No
this looks like a good place
We have 80 minute transfer
so good
Good
Bad
Why?
The only train in 80 mins is the London...
Coulda got the 1407 to Plymouth for the 1515 London train...
Very nice
Looe branch
How are you gettjn an 80 minute transfer there
2P17
You are
Arm signal
Rico 150 going hard
Cucumber
Coat hanger looking ass buffer
Yeah, that bit
Sinas taking sneaky pics of women in the window reflection...
@floral cradle are you gonna experience a 300km non-stop train whilst you're here?
Or even better, a 430km non-stop train?
omg have you not done the full reversing bit
where it goes all the way back to the station
Nah, and it's just effort to go back to do...
Congrats, all 50m of it
too cracked
I'll probably go to Liskeard and walk down the hill to the Halt some time...
Then pick up the train from there...
even I have done that pilot
Congratulations
Don't think so
I'll mostly do regional trains
Reading to Taunton was quite long
17:19-17:46 GWR Liskeard - Plymouth
Kaulo
Opeens Hollanders hier
