I finally have WiFi, let's make getting my sim card my first priority because god it's shit
Thanks
Thanks
I'm sorry for calling it shit, I gave it too much credit
At least now I know where I arranged to pick up my sim card
Anyway wanted to send this a few hours ago but KLM bad
All my homies hate the paper form. "Did you get a QR code from the online form?" you ever see a Japanese website work? No.
Get nice paper forms and it barely fits my name (I have 4 first names, or 3 middle names depending on how american you are)
Also gave myself a paper cut.
Nice
But I can say that the Japanse customs and immigration form actually works pretty well
Used it three times without issues so far
Also, it allows you to get a QR code that some shops can use for easier tax returns, but I haven’t been able to use that yet - the shops I went to simply asked for my passport
I didn't get the QR code
Bro just stole my passport details
At the SIM pickup place which is also baggage drop off
Suitcase of a lady with 2 children here with "ds free travel"
Child abuse
Sim card test
success
Looks like it
Nintendo DS
Yes
Got in the wrong line, now I have to wait half an hour
Maybe because it's a yamanote line station but bro instantly knew where I needed to transfer
Opinion on Google Maps public transport guidance in Japan?
People have told me all apps are bad so you might as well
I quite like it, it tells you where to transfer, which cars are the fastest to transfer from/to, the direction you need to walk, the exit you need to take, delays and the total trip fare
It told me to take private trains
It assumes you are a wealthy man
Based
I think I used the https://www.navitime.co.jp/pcstorage/html/japan_travel/english/?from=jt_header_pc Navitime app for JR pass trips
but with my pass there were more constraints on which Shinkansen I was allowed to take
I was told navitime is bad for real time travel
It had no realtime info sadly
I have used it to plan my itinerary
But I needed it mostly because I didn't want to get fined for taking the wrong Shinkies
Cape gauge looks like toy train gauge
Stopped in the middle of nowhere to let another train pass
ERTMSn't
Pro tip
it automatically signs you in at public wifi where you have to otherwise manually agree with the terms and shit
Neat
This is probably the most popular app
Would you say it's more reliable than Google Maps? I found the data on Google Maps and Apple Maps to be mostly in realtime
I'd say so, it's fairly reliable
But Google Maps might be easier for the normal people
Yamanote Line Shinagawa - Gotanda 14:32-14:37
But if you need to set restrictions and stuff on ticket types and that, you can't do that on google maps so you are better off using apps like these
Yeah fair
I mostly use Apple Maps but Chris sadly can't use that, because on Apple Maps you can actually filter by reserved/unreserved trains
Bro really got the Up house
Chris in Japan nice
Yeee
The shower in this hotel has 2 shower heads one for normal and another for cold
All trains on one of the lines are all delayed because of "unidentified noise"
Yamanote line Gotanda - Shinjuku 16:15-16:29
Japan
Recover from getting lost trying to exit Shinjuku station any% world record
The signs change colour and randomly stopped showing up
Hmmm Google maps said the observation deck on the municipal building was open till 22:00, but apparently entry closes in 10 minutes (17:00)
the up house lol
man fuck this lovely country
They turned it off
I’ve been told you can also get a great view for free on top of some municipal building
Ye this one
I swear the wayfinding signage at Shinjuku is intentionally confusing
this is a very good building
didn’t know Japan had it like that
Best place in Tokyo right
man I missed like 6 trains there during one transfer
I also walked in circles twice
Not sure which is harder, leaving Shinjuku or entering it
At least there's signs pointing roughly to the exit
Yamanote Line Shinjuku - ikebukuro 18:38-18:47
Yamanote line Ikebukuro - Gotanda 20:19-20:41
This is Chris lore
Yamanote Line Gotanda - Osaki 9:10-91:12
JR East Rapid Sankyo Line - Kawagoe Line, Osaki - Kawagoe 9:21-10:37
Cab view
Cool this is a moving block line
I did notice a lack of lineside signals or even stop marker board equivalents
Tegentrein had 3 guys in the rear cab
Driver closed the blinds, no more cab view
:(
Oh it's the thing on the sign
We went underground shortly afterwards so it's probably against glare
Yup the curtain went back up at the next aboveground station
I still really have to get used to timezones being a thing
Like wdym it's the middle of the night in Europe
They only start vertrekprocure once level crossing is closed and route is set
This would not fly in most parts of the Netherlands
Lots of people with an umbrella against the sun
Something tells me they don't like tourists
I took a picture of a shrine with like 10 signs saying "fuck off" but I just realised it's not sharp
JR Ueno Tokyo Line 13:53-14:20 Omiya - Ueno
Why no Shinkansen
Just following the travel planner
Tokyo metro Ginza Line Ueno - Asakusa 14:28-14:34
I went to the tourist trap and all I got was agitated at the sheer crowds
Me when there's way too many tourists in the tourist place
I don't think I've even been here
Ritten
Also fucking 31C today
Delicious
No wonder I've been sweating my balls off
tropen
Enjoy this
How are you enjoying the matcha hype
If it was up to white people they’d probably all be green people
I'm not a huge fan of matcha
it’s prima but I prefer leaf green teas
I had a bunch at sushiro because it was free
I’ll take free matcha
Ye
Also had free matcha at the unagi place for lunch
But it didn't taste like anything
Thought it was just water
It probably was just water
With mysterious yellowish green powder that they called "茶"
Tokyo metro Ginza Line Asakusa - ueno 15:58-16:04
Fucking Germans never waiting for people to get out of the train first
Oh wait it was just a Japanese boomer
Yamanote Line Ueno - Akihabara 16:11-16:14
I'm beginning to understand why Japan YouTubers hate on the lack of rubbish bins
Like bro even the convenience store here
There's usually bins inside convenience stores no?
Welcome to Japan lmao
And luckily train and metro stations have it
But only in the paid areas
So if you finish your snacc just as you’re waking out you have to go back in just to throw your trash out
send japam pics
Very nice
Kinda crazy you’re actually in Japan
chris is in places
Without roberto
Not sure if this is incredibly crazy
I mean he didn't like it when I announced that I was going to Japan without him
And in the same breath said he was going without me
So like 🤷
Now I get to not babysit anyone, but as a downside I don't have anyone to go drink or karaoke with me
Maid cafés help because you pay them to be nice to you
And I suppose that's their business model
There was a boomer there who was probably a regular
Anyway
They all are
Robert took us to the most mild maid cafe in the history of greater Japan
ㅋㅋㅋ
He was delighted to learn that a friend of mine lived there
But his Japanese was better than his English, and my Japanese also better than his English
And my Japanese is atrocious
It's a miracle I understood the explanation given by the hotel owner/hostess
Who decided to take the liberty to do the whole thing in Japanese when I answered "a little" to "do you speak Japanese?"
Well, the Japanese, obviously
Also, please elaborate how it was mild, I'd love to learn how Robert did it
Well I meant for them to do dances and bless our food with magical spells and shit
Was he disappointed he couldn't touch them inappropriately
Because that’s what some guys told us what they experienced
They only did to the guy next to me as (clearly) a joke
But instead this place was on the ground floor right on the street, girls just dressed up lightly, incredibly basic food menu
Not much of a show
Should be said I was seated at the bar
Our place didn’t have a bar
You don't go to a maid cafe for the food
It genuinely looked like some Spanish lunchroom where you’d order the menu del dia because you’re broke and your pension is running low
I'll put my omuraisu in #ricos-late-night-doner-share
Like the food was expensive but at the same time I was prepared
People already told me the omuraisu was gonna be shit
But maid cafés and omuraisu that's just how it goes
Btw strong zero is overhyped
Too bitter to my liking
I've tried both lemon and grapefruit
Hmm I quite liked it, but maybe Boaz is just overhyping it all by himself, as I had it with Robert before Boaz started talking about it
Could also have been the vibe because it was bought for us at a familymart by two Dutch dudes that had already been travelling in Japan for 3 months and we shared some beers
Like I said I prefer sweet drinks
I don't like whisky
It was on the menu at the maid cafe but when I googled it and found out it was whisky I didn't bother
Too bad, it can be quite sweet, but yeah whisky taste
It was bad enough that the two guys to the left of me were smoking, didn't need ashtray in my mouth too
What remains? Sake isn’t sweet at all
Okay but that’s just Johnny walker double black
That shit traumatised me too
Sake isn't bitter either
So vending machine sake it is
So usually
When people say amazake (sweet sake) they mean warm sake
I got cold amazake at the maid cafe
They somehow were out of beer
Spent most of my night drinking cocktails included in the nomihodai and the umeshu
Umeshu is so good, though they did teach be about dry umeshu when I ordered it
(they had 2 types and I wanted to try the other one)
Of couse of the 3 included place specific cocktails the last one I tried was my favourite
Yamanote Line 10:05-10:21 Gotanda - Tokyo Hbf
JR Rapid Ueno Tokyo Line 10:26-10:44 Tokyo - Kita-senju
Tsukuba Express Semi-Rapid 10:55-11:37 Kita-senju - Tsukuba
21A National Institute for Materials Science - Tsukuba Centre 12:56+6-13:02+?
The museum was a bit small
20 min worth of museum, like 2 hours one way
Comparable to the Leiden one tbf
Leiden didn't have a fuckoff massive rocket tho
Leiden for comparison
Also funny they sold one of those 3d glass etchings of the Japanese moonlander SLIM as it sits on the moon: on its side
Tsukuba Express Semi-Rapid 13:50-14:33 Tsukuba - Kita-senju
This was my train on the way here
Fancy
During the prewar era, the Ministry of Railways did not issue permits to private suburban railway companies for new lines to cross the Yamanote Line from their terminal stations to the central districts of Tokyo, forcing the companies to terminate services at stations on the line. This policy led to the development of new urban centers (新都心、副都心, shintoshin, fukutoshin) around major transfer points on the Yamanote Line, most notably at Shinjuku and Ikebukuro (which are now the two busiest passenger railway stations in the world).
Cool
Now we know
Yamanote Line Nippori - Harajuku 14:50-15:15
Yamanote Line Harajuku - Shibuya 16:23-16:24
Guy with a Palestine flag at the big zebra™
Best of boys
So many whites 🤢
People are in line to take a photo of the dog
All these fucking gringo's with their phones out like they've never seen people cross a street before
Chris bussen nice
Drink
Idk seems a bit sad to go drinking by myself
Take a stroll along the Meguro river maybe
I feel attacked
Ah ye the rainbow bridge area might be nice in the dark
I can take the Rinkai kousoku tetsudo Rinkai line from here
I'm stupid i need to go Osaki first
Chris Osaka
Yamanote line Gotanda - Osaki 19:58-19:59
Rinkai kousoku tetsudo Rinkai line Osaki - Tokyo /tp 20:12+5-20:25+2
This is literally JR east rolling stock what is even happening?
JR pass is not valid on this
No it's not
I know
That's why it's stupid
The announcement for the rinkai line service also said thank you for travelling with JR east
Why is it called the rainbow bridge if both the bridge and the lights are white
You can't avoid travelling with non-jr railway companies no matter how hard you can try
I wasn't trying
Just bad communication
It's also behind JR gates
And it's not like they don't know because at Tokyo Teleport station there's a sign saying oopsie woopsie you did a fucky wucky like they know this is guaranteed to go wrong
You also can't omchecken, you have to exit and reenter through the gates
Bad idea
Music festival ongoing
Or rather
It seems to have just finished
Two megaphone people here managing the crowds
Baka gaijin just got megaphone to the face because "don't stop" in English was too difficult
Yurikamome guided bus Daiba-Shimbashi 21:29+1-21:44+3
Cool system
If you are ingecheckt with suica it's no problem tho
there are some places where you can omchecken with 1 act
but I dont understand this
Well you can literally go from one company's station to another random one without ever checking out if you've checked in with an ic card, since the ic card is a valid ticket anywhere
But the moment you cross over into another JR company's area, (for example between JR east and JR Central) you can't use your ic card at all
Arriva when open access
So you can travel between any two stations on JR east, Tokyo metro, Toei Metro and all the private railways inter-running with it (Keikyu, Keisei, Odakyu, Keio, Tobu, Seibu, etc) without ever checking out
But you got to treat travelling to jr central land from Jr east land like travelling to a different country
But as long as you remember that single rule, travelling by ic card (suica/pasmo/icoca etc) is much simpler since you don't have to worry about if your ticket is valid or not
Kintetsu line
With the power of Kintetsu, you can travel between Nagoya and Himeji without ever leaving the system and also never having to use a JR train
We got some random delay at Osaki
I love how you’re saying this as if it shouldn’t be normal
Yamanote Line Shimbashi - Gotanda 21:57-22:11
Still think it's wack that JR East has its own bank
Girls with price tag at Gotanda
Affordable?
They're all expensive
Sad
Anyway I've tried famichicky, Karaage-kun and whatever 7-11 was willing to sell me
Family mart by far the best chicken. Karaage-kun not so nice
Time to go to Nagoya
Shinkansen Hikari 637 Tokyo - Nagoya, 9:33-11:14-1
They're out of reserved seats for another hour
Don't expect this to be a problem
Shinky time
Tokyo station is nice though less ornate than I expected
Train arrived at the platform empty. I wonder if they afrangeer every train after arrival
Just saw a freight train
I feel like those are a bit rare
I'm gonna file a complaint with JRC we're 1 min early
freight trains aren't rare at all on the Tokaido mainline
Ah
Leaving my bag is way too much effort
Why are all the station lockers full?
I'm now at a karaoke place which has a storage locker place
Bro pulls out google translate "you need a online reservation sorry"
Like ye I managed but still
Just have enough lockers smh
Bro waiting in line behind me went for a stand up powernap
Booked the wrong karaoke place because the map is useless and these places are everywhere
Like honestly
I searched nagoya before which was my bad I guess
Anyway linimo time
Overengineered waiting infrastructure
lol nice I used some comparable service to dump my suitcase in an internet cafe once
3 loud children just got on
Genuinely screaming
Oh Chinese
Figures
All the cool souvenirs are sold out :(
Managed to claim the autism seat
Linimo Yakusa - Fujigaoka 13:17-13:34
I wanna jump the gates so I can keep my ticket but there's guys
Japanese children now
Dad is telling them to quiet down a bit
if you ask nicely they might let you keep it
You're a genius
乗車記念 Jo-sha Kin-nen
Cool words
She did not instantly get it
But i didn't have to say anything else
Got a cool stamp "invalid" but in Japanese
nice
Anyway I see that I forgot the train here
Higashiyama line Nagoya - Fujigaoka 12:03+1-12:30
Higashiyama line Fujigaoka - Nagoya 13:50-14:17
you know every train here anyway :D
Ye google maps told me to get the aonami line next and I was like oh yeah that one
Also immediately after she used the verb I looked up to use
"あ、持ちたいですか。"
Ye that's the one you got it
"持ち帰り" is probably what she said
Maybe
Mochi-Kaeri
Boomer selectively shouting at people for standing places on the train
Nagoya is not the most friendliest of places
Nah this guy is just an asshole
Just told a guy who doesn't look a day under 80 to fuck off from the priority seats as well
Who then decided to ignore the insane guy
entitled arsehole
Delicious
Why is it a genuine 10 minute walk from the metro station to the aonami station?
I didn't even remotely exit the station either
Aonami line Nagoya - Kinjofuto 14:30-14:54
Nagoya also does train announcements in Portuguese and Chinese, where Tokyo only does Japanese and English
Things that are false
The record is 603km/h held by the L0 not the weaksauce 581km/h of this thing
Because it's not a hyperloop that's why
They have this written correctly elsewhere
Aonami line Kinjofuto - Nagoya 15:59-16:24
That's me
Nice
nice
nice
I'd planned to wake up early to skip the crowds but instead I slept in
Anyway I just barely made the breakfast buffet
Turns out all they have is white bread, strawberry jam, and instant noodles
JR Miyakoji Rapid Kyoto - Nara 10:07-10:51
Now I understand why my travel advice was stupid btw
Japan doesn't do frequent trains outside of metro-like services
When are you visiting all the book-offs
I've visited one or two but it was more expensive than I expected
I read nice finds are cheaper outside of touristy places like Tokyo
But yes still pricey
People say ooh wow they have super cheap retro consoles and like it's on par with Marktplaats
I did buy donkey kong for €40 which is like €60 brand new at the moment
I was hoping to scam them out of a Switch lite
Someone in the cursed WhatsApp groups once mentioned finding a switch lite for like €60, but a rare find
But like €120 for a game + console
Yikes
Also Japan moment
+30, +16, +40 they say because of a bit of rain
Weaksauce country
JR Wakayama Line Oji - Hashimoto 12:07+3-13:19
This green bitch is way too fancy
Nankai Tenku Hashimoto - Gokurakubashi 13:30-14:04
Tenkū nice
Ye people told me to go here
Ye
The views are really good
It reminds me of the Schwarzwaldbahn
Along the valley through dense forests
The only other white people here are Dutch
Koyasan Cable Car 14:10-14:15
Nankai bus 41 Koyasan Station - Kondo-mae 14:20-14:34
Lots of boomers struggling with inchecken
wow
looks good
I heard from Dutch 🤢 people that Mt. Takao near Tokyo can be nice for a little trip, if the weather's good you might be able to see Mt. Fuji from the top too
I've seen the big hill™ on all the souvenirs and photos and everything already
fair
I'm owed to see it still
man I spent all this time and effort to get to that stupid pagoda only for there to be clouds
perchance I'll try again soon?
You could, I have things I'd rather see and do tbf
ye no prio, I hope to see it this winter maybe? too bad you're not allowed to climb it then
A fool climbs mt. Fuji once, a word the Yanks don't like me saying climbs mt. Fuji more than once
Genshin impact
Yes Genshin Impact players climb mount Fuji more than once
Bus 41 Kondo-mae - Koyasan Station 16:04+2-16:23-7
Koyasan cable car Koyasan - Gokurakubashi 16:24-16:29
Nankai local Gokurakubashi - Hashimoto 16:33-17:14
Koyasan was a very good tip
Koyaaa saannnn
Are you somewhere close to Wakayama or Osaka still now?
Koya Hashimoto - Kawachi Nagano Shin-imamiya 17:25+5-18:07 17:51
Bought a drink at the conbini, needed cash to charge my suica when I get there, and then left the drink at the atm when I rushed back for the train
I'm headed for Shin-imamiya once they decide to allow us to depart
Which is in Osaka
Rip €0,70 and the very confused guy who uses the atm next
I might be able to get to Shin imamiya or Namba area by 1900
This train continues to Namba so whichever is more convenient for you
Well you still probably have like an hour before I make it there so I'll DM you once I get close, is that good?
Sure
LOOPLINE
I'm on a Nankai service
Shin Imamiya, ive been here many times
Not currently on the loop line
I was in the Osaka ghetto which is equivalent to the nicer parts of Almere/Lelystad
We've been to the same Japan right?
Yes
All of it is a ghetto
Which is equivalent to the nicer parts of Almere and Lelystad
Still shit
But couldve been Heerlen Noord typa shit
Everything in Japan just works people when the vending machine spits out my 1k yen bill without explanation
Zug fällt aus
Before vs after
Nankai Kawachi Nagano - Kitanoda 17:45+8 - 18:13
This was amazing
We should explore the countless little karaoke bars and cafes in the outdoor shopping centre, where totally normal Japanese people where drinking every night
There was a signal failure at Nankai Namba station today, Nankai is not doing great
You'll probably arrive before I do still
Japanese trains are so shit man it's like DB
lol that bad
no that can't be right Japan's trains are always on time
Ill actually do this with you
@brittle remnant Imamiyaebisu is where rico hostel was
Like under that station
I was at like wialking distance from Imaike tram station
And max too believe
Max had like 1 street further than me (idk like 50 meters)
I went into a random bar up a random flight of stairs in Kyoto and the bar was literally 6 bar stools long and only the owner was inside and it was amazing
yeah like 1.5 minutes from Imaike
(photos on the polarsteps)
Did you make it then? On to the last train?
You still have one at 0000
But yeah that's the penultimate rapid, you wouldn't want to go on the slow train
Special rapid!!
Very special
Osaka looplinr
Not this service
You know Senso-ji kinda ruined my appetite for Kyoto because now I know what kinda crowds to expect
JR Miyakoji Rapid Kyoto - Nara 9:37-10:21
Planning to escape the crowds again but I'm not sure how successful it's gonna be based on how busy this train is
Girl with a face mask covering her entire face save from her eyes, Which she covered with sunglasses
Petting zoo
So many girls pretending to be Disney princesses
And then finding out animals are hard to work with
The shrine complex at Nara is really nice
I only really knew about the deer before
The crowds are really not so bad here, expected it to be much worse
Nice
Ramen place, they're using a vending machine for orders
Unfortunately, I am retarded
Japan bus
If you ever wondered where people go dressed in goth lolita outfit, it's the aquarium
Or gyaru, it turns out
Aquarium closed, now what do
Work
It's too late to do that
Lovely travel advice
The alternative is taking a bus
And interestingly I can pay using my credit card on the buses here but the payment then doesn't come in
Interestingly the bus isn't significantly faster
nice
it can take a few days for credit card paymetns to process
Bad compnay
JR Nara Line Kyoto - Inari 19:39-19:45
I hear the Inari shrine at night is pretty, quiet and most importantly: open
Shinto shrines are so good
Keihan main line sub express Fushimi Inari - Gionshijo 20:16-20:24
I was just reminded there's no point in going to nice places in Kyoto
Everything is expensive and everyone else is here too
I'm almost starting to feel like going to Kyoto to begin with was a mistake
i found kyoto had a few very nice temples quite far out, but yh its busy in most of it
Like this place in the northern end here
yes this one is good
Got here before the first bus. I suppose I've seen it on photos too much maybe; the main temple didn't see as cool as I thought it would
The busload of tourists make it seem more like a theme park
Google maps showing me where to go to get back. Down these steps and then through a cemetery
Bus 206 Gojozaka - Kyoto Station 7:53-8:08
Laundry time
It do be lekker draaiïng
very nice
Omg this is the busdepot that my bus randomly drove into
Lol
oh that's the bus depot I kept walking past a few weeks ago
JR Kyoto Line Special Rapid Kyoto - Osaka 18:59-19:28
I think tomorrow I'm going to wake up early for Kinkaku-ji, and then do the Fushimi Inari climb
And then on Friday I will Osaka
@crystal forge what things should I go see in Osaka?
Good
Things to see? Not much apart from things you already saw on Monday, but maybe Umeda area and the 1970 expo park? Kobe has Mount Rokko and the port area which is nice to walk around
#1139526723743002685 message
Was this the one where they livestreamed you and Robert eating?
Yes I remember you doing this
Kobe
Things to do in Osaka: Leave
I'll look into Kobe and the expo tho
I looked into this
I don't understand exactly the appeal
This is just a beurs with a ¥7000 entry fee no?
No, it's just a beurs with a ¥7000 entry fee and long queues
beurs
beurs mentioned
JR Kyoto Line Special Rapid Osaka - Kyoto 20:45-21:14
This one is gonna be very full

Biggest waste of time and money
Lmao
This is one of places I would recommend if you are still doing sightseeing in Kyoto tomorrow:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/4Rix9EpActrTa4Df7
JR Nara Line Kyoto - Inari 6:48-6:53
I went the wrong way down from the viewpoint and now I am headed the wrong and long way around
Ended up in a fucking residential neighborhood
Got this as a bonus tho
Tofukuji temple
JR Nara Line Tofukuji - Kyoto 9:06-9:08
How naive. I thought rush hour had ended already
Okay so new plan is get to Kinkaku-ji by 16:00
JR Nara line Kyoto - Tofukuji 11:30-11:32
Keihan Main line sub express Tofukuji - Iwashimizu-hachimangu 11:38-12:06
Keihan Iwashimizu-hachimangu Cable Car Cable-hachimangu-guchi - Cable-hachimangu-sanjo 12:15-12:18
Noone else here, I might be getting a private ride
Although, of course, no-one includes the driver
This is shrine #2 in Japan
Like 6-12 visitors
Keihan Iwashimizu-hachimangu Cable Car Cable-hachimangu-sanjo - Cable-hachimangu-guchi 13:00-13:03
Again private ride
Keihan Main line sub express Iwashimizu-hachimangu - Chusojima 13:48-56
Even fewer people at the related shrine at the bottom
I saw 2 guys
Keihan main line limited express Chusojima - Sanjo 14:01-14:14
Bus 10 Sanjo Keihan-mae - Kitano-Tenmangu-mae 14:24-14:55
Bus 205 Kinugasako-mae - Kinkaku-ji michi 15:43-15:47
People don't know how cash works so getting off took 4 minutes
It's not a big bus
nice
you wouldn’t know by looking
Yeah because I held my phone way above my head for this
Tbf it was good to come when I did
Because while any fence with a view of this thing was taken it wasn't that much more crowded
Everyone was so focused on getting a photo I wonder if anyone actually saw it
Had to take a second picture of an angle other than the one everyone else did. I really liked how the reflection of the sunlight on the water on the gold looked
Anyway
Bus 205 Kinkaku-ji michi - Kitaoji Bus terminal 16:31-16:43
Also pretty funny there was a white girl in a traditional Korean dress
Birb
Chris anime kyoto filler episode
Just you wait for the beach episode
Oh hell no
Hmm far
Just use the Kintetsu
This is ¥5000 to save like 30 minutes
I could also try and see if I can do even more of the 22 shrines closer to Kyoto
Maybe this would be more worth
Yes
good
I've thought about this, is it literally the same model or just a very strict standard?
I mean I literally had a different looking bus back in Kanto
I've just been using buses a lot because I can't just Yamanote Line myself out of every situation
No clue but I feel like just about every bus in the Osaka/Kyoto region is the same
I don't remember it too well in other places but I felt that they were very similar too
I've seen pictures of buses like those in all places so I think it's all over Japan
Bus 28 Shimogyoku Sogochosha-mae - Matsuo Taisha-mae 10:03-10:38
Bus too full
Chinese tourists find the concept of keeping clear of the door to allow it to close hard
Driver doing announcements to the outside
Feels like there's more Flemish people here in Japan than Dutch people
Bus full of gaijin and they're all going somewhere else
The other one nearby I could feed the fishy
bus 71 Uenomiya Taisha-mae - Kyoto Station 12:29-13:23
JR Kyoto Line Special Rapid Kyoto - Osaka 14:00-14:28
Osaka metro Midosuji Line Umeda - Honmachi 14:44-14:49
Osaka metro Chuo Line Honmachi - Osakako 14:53-15:05
Osaka metro Chuo Line Osakako - Honmachi 19:14-19:26
Are you extra careful as to not take the loop line or was it never the fastest route
JR Joto line Osaka-Osakajokoen 21:47+7-21:57+6
JR Kyoto Line Special Rapid Osaka - Kyoto 00:00+4-00:30
Dutch people are much easier to spot if they have an FNV bag
Himeji castle has taken a lot longer than I expected
When are you going to tekashi's castle
I was a ter land ter zee and in de lucht kid
I was thinking the planned 95% underground of the Chuo Shinkansen is a lot but the Sanyo Shinkansen isn't far off
I was seriously considering this
Hiroshima tram 2 Hiroshima - Dobashi 15:58-16:20
Also pretty cool how there's a guy explaining how to pay for the tram (you only tap out at the driver when you leave)
Oh a conductor has spawned in in the rear to get off there
I hate how much my feet hurt man
good
Hiroshima tram 8 Dobashi - Yokogawa 8:28-8:38
The hotel wifi is very shit here
I can watch yt on it but somehow it really struggles with discord
Highest I've ever climbed
Waterfalls were nice
Being dead? Not so much
There was a Buddhist temple at the top
Stuck with Dutch people on the ropeway
Rip
Anyway this was cool
Whoops
Didn't see that one
JR West Miyajima Seaway 14:35-14:45
it's the thing
Hiroshima tram 2 Nishihiroshima - Dobashi 15:28-15:38
This looks good
Audi tram
As it turns out you need about 1,5-2 hours for the Hiroshima museum
I know this because I was chased out after entering an hour before closing time
And I was about halfway through
What a first half tho
yeah its fucking mental
in like the big memorial building was a exhibition on childrens drawings of the bomb
that had me almost sobbing
Not genuinely crying took a lot of energy
Hiroshima tram 2 Dobashi - Hiroshima station 8:34-8:56+2
Only foto I took in the Hiroshima museum
Felt a bit disrespectful to take pictures in the hall with the stories about victims
And then there were two tourists taking so many pictures it was like they were intending to make a clone of the museum elsewhere
Took them almost longer to get a good photo than it took me to actually read the text instead
But both of them needed a good shot so they spent an unreasonable amount of time blocking stuff, and they were both very wide so you couldn't look around them very well
Anyway me and the boys
JR West Sakura 545 Hiroshima - Hakata 9:30-10:36
JR Kyushu Relay Kamome 21 Hakata - Takeo Onsen 10:53-11:55
Would be nice if they told us at the platform where the non-reserved cars were
Wack
Overhead luggage compartments but they're too small
JR Kyushu Kamome 21 Takeo Onsen - Nagasaki 11:58-12:29
Nagasaki food recommendations seem to involve going to Chinatown
Reading the lore of why I had this transfer and imho it's pretty cringe
They basically finished the end of the line and the local governments at the start of the line are like "what's in it for us tho?"
Fuck capsule hotel check in is 17:00
Bad
Nagasaki Tram 1 Nagasaki station - Kankodori 12:44-12:54
All foreigners on here appear to be Dutch
Apparently it's one group
And they're all getting off at Dejima
Beautiful
Got my luggage safely stored in a karaoke location
Bro behind the counter did not know they also stored luggage
@formal quarry look I'm in China
Ja dit is de soundtrack op straat
https://open.spotify.com/track/0hEWvzkgbI301JZj947gFz?si=88399d250ef14661 deze hoort er ook wel bij
I'm wondering if doing the tatami mats wrong was original but none if the staff speaks English
Anyway 🇳🇱
chrisrit nice
thsi looks designwise like a bad copy of a TGV PSE lol
is that a ninja on that last post?
the guy with sword
When I asked him a question he told me where the exit was
If you ever find yourself here
It is cool to see
I spent 3 hours reading everything because I had nothing better to do with my afternoon
I feel like there was a lot of repeating information
I feel like only two of the rooms were worth reading
And then you can spend the 2 hours you save going to see the nuke park or smth
I didn't intend to go here because I've been to the Hiroshima one, and I've been told it's not super worth if you've been to the Hiroshima one anyway
Capsule hotel. Mattress is made of concrete
enjoy your floor I guess
Nagasaki tram 1 Kankodori - Nagasaki station 8:29-8:41
I hate it when suica is empty
JR Kyushu Kamome 14 Nagasaki - Takeo Onsen 9:08-9:39
JR Kyushu Relay Kamome 14 Takeo Onsen - Shin-tosu 9:42-10:17
Fuck the Russians are also doing this transfer
JR West Sakura 548 Shin-tosu - Kokura 10:30-11:01
JR Kyushu Sonic 15 Kokura - Beppu 11:09-12:25
These are not amazingly comfortable
The headrests are at upper back level which is just no bueno
Me to Robert 7 minutes after I boast that my phone tells me I don’t have enough balance for the trip we’re about to take but we end up taking a slightly different route and I forgor to top up my Suica, having the gate slam in front of my face and the public shaming alarm going off in the station:
Lmaoo
The bell traumatises me
I mostly get bus and tram drivers get mad at me
@sour sedge my Suica experiences were always flawless right ⬜
I always top up on the bus or tram because that’s when I really don’t want to hold the whole vehicle up 💀
There's shade but only for the bus, not for people waiting
Bus 41 Beppu Station - Kannawa 12:50-13:06+2
There must be something in the Geneva conventions about this
I have no idea why it thinks we'll be there by 6 past
Apparently the Suica I'd been given is the one local to this part of Japan
Steam really do be coming out of the floor in Beppu
I think I spent most of my meals so far in otherwise mostly empty restaurants
But I prefer that over packed ones
So this is where clouds are made
Bus 16 Kannawa - Chinoike Jigoku Mae 15:34-15:40
Bus 16 Chinoike Jigoku Mae - Beppu Station 16:23+6-16:58
The hells are cool
Now let's get the hell to my hotel and get my ass soft boiled
There's 2 of them on this bus
https://www.myinstants.com/en/instant/wah-wah-wah-i-dont-wanna-hear-it-90451/ €100 and I'll do it
Still not off the bus and they're STILL FUCKING GOING
So the offer still stands
trenitalia moment.
It's a bus
yeah but trenitalia is notorious for pulling this crap on trains
Terrible
also TI busses, like they do at qbuzz too.
So I had hoped to go swimming at the beach
A week old review shows the stunning views of the entire beach covered in trash, something which according to the other reviews has been a constant for ages
I guess it's just an onsen filler episode then
Bus 20 Kitahama - Yubinkyoku Mae 15:24-15:35-5
Going to the arcade but the arcade is next to the beach so I can check how much of a waste it was to take off my swimming trunks
I'm not just eepy, I'm
Horrible
Worst I've ever seen
like the amount of trash on the beach or
Bus 16 Yubinkyoku Mae - Kitahama 16:22-16:28
Tiny
yeah not much oversteek at the front
Everyone has to get off at the front so this might be by design
oh you pay at the end of your journey I guess then?
Yes
You get a ticket with a number for where you get on
Unless you're somewhere with a flat fare
Like Kyoto and Hiroshima
Would probably take too long for the driver to type in the numbers
where do you get the ticket
front also?
No at the entrance in the back
Another bonus for this hotel is that there's a free tea machine in the hallway
Better than a few bags of tea and a water boiler
It has Matcha, Oolong and "Black" tea
Miscommunication
This was not included in my hotel
And I did not bring any cash
Anyway time to bring my cash instead of my phone because I don't need to take this photo anymore
It was way too hot for me
Didn't stay in long
Got dizzy, usually a sign to leave
where are you now
GREAT
Actually had 3 more but they're ¥500 and I have to book them
Bus 50 Kitahama - Beppu Kotsu Centre 8:57-9:05
There's a tiny arcade in the ferry terminal
Also saw some on the boat
Uwajima-Unju Ferries Beppu - Yawatahama 9:45+1-12:30
I was looking at local cuisine in Ehime but I think I'm just gonna ask the waiter to recommend something instead
Lots of jellyfish
Decided to go for lunch here
Didn't realise this was gonna cost me a full hour because I'm gonna miss the bus
*LAYER 1: FREE CAMPING's
*LAYER 2: FREE HOT SPRINGS (Onsens)
*LAYER 3: MICHI-NO-EKI's (Roadside stations)
Before you start...

me whenever I decide to go for a small detour knowing fully well that I have a train to catch in the next hour
I'm not very impressed
JR Shikiku Ishizuchi 24 Matsuyama - Takamatsu 15:28-17:57
British ass looking train
JR Shikoku Shimanto 3 Takamatsu - Oboke 8:25-9:42
Random Japanese guy came up to me to I think ask something about football
I did not have reception at all in Oboke
No idea when the buses went
Anyway so I just walked on the way there as the sign said 2 more hours for the next bus
JR Shikoku Nanpu 12 Oboke Kotohira 12:05-12:47
Bus 21(I think?) Michi-no-eki Oboke - Oboke station11:07-11:09
On the way back I saw a bus going in the right direction so I got on
It was something like this:
https://livedoor.blogimg.jp/ferry_mishima/imgs/d/6/d68cf271.jpg
Apparently they think the Japanese name sounds like Udon and they really like their Udon here
Floating coins
Mine did not float
Oh there's a festival at 21:00 at the shrine I just visited
Guess I'm going back after dinner
JR Shikoku Marine Liner 41 Sakaide - Takamatsu 15:51-16:05
British train
I thought that too
