As reported by Reuters on March 16, American border officials are permitting Ukrainians fleeing the war to remain in the U.S. until 2023, albeit on a case-by-case basis.
Melitopol Mayor was exchanged for 9 Russian conscripts.
The soldiers were 18-19 years old, according to Dasha Zarivna, a spokesperson for the presidential chief of staff. Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov was abducted and held captive by the Russian forces for five days.

The latest Ukrainian city to suffer wide-spread damage from Russian missile attacks is the besieged port city of Mariupol.
Zelenskiy calls Russia a ‘terrorist state’
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy gave a national address late last night where he called Russia a ‘terrorist state’ and said its attack on Mariupol was no different from the siege of Leningrad.
In case you missed it, here is a recap of his remarks:
The war has not stopped yet. Russia’s war crimes continue. The Russian economy is still able to maintain the military machine. That’s why we need new sanctions against Russia. The world must finally recognise officially that Russia has become a terrorist state.”
Zelenskiy also directly addressed Russians, asking them to question whether the siege of Mariupol is any different from the siege of Leningrad and promising Russian soldiers who lay down their arms a chance to survive.
Russian appeal to UN members to support most egregious hypocrisy - “humanitarian” draft resolution by a serial killer is outrageous. UN member may like to think twice before they dive in blood of children & adults executed by Russian military in Ukraine. Stay with 141 of ESS/11-1
The Ukrainian military has just released its morning operational report, claiming Russia has been unsuccessful in carrying out its ground operation and continues to launch rocket-bomb strikes on Ukrainian cities.
Officials said Russian troops are launching cyberattacks and destroying TV and radio signals in order to discredit Ukraine’s leadership.
Russian missile strike in Kyiv kills one, residential building on fire
One person has been killed by a Russian missile attack in Kyiv this morning, Ukraine’s emergency services are reporting.
Rescue services said they received a report of a residential building on fire in the Darnytsky district at 5.02am on Thursday.
American intelligence: Russia’s military has lost over 7,000 soldiers.
Unnamed American officials who spoke to the New York Times warned that their numbers of Russian casualties are inexact.
Pentagon officials also said that a high number of soldiers killed can destroy the will to continue fighting.
Human Rights Watch: At least 500 civilians were taking shelter in bombed Mariupol theater.
Belkis Wille, HRW senior researcher, said on Mar. 16 “this raises serious concerns about what the intended target was in a city where civilians have already been under siege for days.”

This was after putin announced a self cleansing of Russia
Something big is gonna happen
Probably stuck with putin
Yeah, we all know where we last heard that
he 'cleansed' germany of jews
USSR
He 'cleansed' the government of opposition
now?
Who knows
It’s likely Putin has increasingly isolated himself from reality
Definitely
Outbursts of anger from him are being reported alot
Dosent seem like mentally stable to me
i'd say kinda like hitler, but
Talked to @Nestle CEO Mr. Mark Schneider about the side effect of staying in Russian market. Unfortunately, he shows no understanding. Paying taxes to the budget of a terrorist country means killing defenseless children&mothers. Hope that Nestle will change its mind soon.

hitler was perfectly fine if i remember correctly, just had horrible goals
???
Hitler was also batshit insane
but for sure had some horrible goals
Hitler was an Amphetamine Addict who also isolated himself
Putin does suffer from severe paranoia
eh
A post putin Russia would scare me, to be honest. I’m not sure what kind of person is primed to replace him
Seems like it
Add dementia in the mix
Honestly i want the sanctions to have russia collapse as an entirety, economically and with its government
I wouldn’t hope for that
The last thing you want in a state with over 6000 nuclear warheads is extreme instability
Have it collapse, instate a new one
Tbh i only want the government to collapse
fund it
A foreign imposed government would be very unpopular
Worked in japan
Worked in Japan but Japan had different circumstances
Navalny would be a good candidate, definitely not batshit insane
Japan had been entirely flattened
Problem I see is a problem I cannot address due to the no politics rule
I would really like to address it
But I cannot
Although I’m certain that there is a bias on this server
Screw it, I’ll say this.
There are no good endings here, considering how many people are dead and how many more people will die. Russia destabilizing is growing more and more likely, which could lead to a horrible situation
The coming war will cost millions of lives, and will lead to the worst living conditions in modern history
Many of us have had the luxury of being removed from war. It was always in some faraway land, where soldiers fight people that we hold no connections to
This is like Vietnam
Just from the other side
NATO can't "act", that's world war three. So they'll supply Ukraine and it'll be a drawn out, proxy war.
Yes, and it will lead to millions of deaths.
Yes. This is the beginning of a world war
Well, nice knowing y'all
I'm saying exactly the opposite
I'm saying no one's going to let it become a world war
Just like they didn't let Afghanistan (either time), Vietnam, or Korea become world wars
It's likely in my view, another deadly, horrible, drawn out proxy war.
While I’m inclined to agree, it’s somewhat worrying that the desire for a military conflict is rising
It’s not gonna be a world war
They wont let it become one
I don’t think we are all screwed just yet
someone should draw a gun on putin quick

ITS TIME
🇱🇹🇪🇪 Lithuania, following Estonia, called on the world to close the skies over Ukraine
A no fly zone would be a declaration of war
So? It's time to end this and help.
well unfortunately things aren't that simple
A declaration of war would risk nuclear conflict
The threat of nuclear war is a real one
So its okay to let the tyrant kill innocent people.
How many more people will die in a nuclear war?
Why would the heads of state of China and America, men who are 68 and 79 respectively, during a global pandemic, have a phone call?
And yes, its not that simple, the true people of Russia need to step up.
It’s callous to say this but it’s the truth. People are dying right now. More people will die in a nuclear war.
Yeah, that's why it's never going to be a nuclear war
We've effectively just returned to a cold war playbook here
You do realise it’s not that easy right
It would be too risky to declare war on a nuclear state, especially one unstable as the RF
Yes and that's why its not that simple or easy
Name a stable nuclear state
North Korea
China
Yeah China, real stable, definitely not on the brink of about three wars or anything
Yeah but to say they need to step up? Chill dude
One of which btw would be with India, another nuclear state
China isn’t going to war soon, I think that’s been made clear
They're sitting pretty, seeing how this one plays out
In the end, they will have to, it's the only way out
i mean what do you want them to do
I don’t believe that it would be a good idea to militarily intervene with NATO
Yeah let’s not start saying shit like this from the comfort of our privileged homes in countries that are not at war on their own territory shall we
I know I’m im a privileged household but the truth is that more Ukrainians will die if this war escalates
Well, really, Ukraine is at war
The issue is if others join them
And right now, NATO and other Nuclear aligned countries, aren't going to.
Ukraine is at war, and the war can still get much, much worse
Because they don't lead Ukraine
Nah I’m talking about saying stuff like the Russians need to step up etc
Yeah I get that, I agree with you on that Mia 100%
I don’t think people understand that in other countries, worldviews aren’t the same
In the end they need, it's why we put sanctions, to pressure the regular people, even those who are against this war.
Unfortunately, while the sanctions will certainly damage the Russian economy, they won’t turn the people against the government
Russia's legacy will be tarnished and Russia will be an outcast if they don't deal with their leader. It's terrible but that's the way it is.
Unfortunately that is not how the world works
And it is certainly not how Russia works
Dictatorships don't need regular people on side, which is why sanctions have targeted the people who keep Putin in power
It doesn't matter if the people are against the government, because that isn't who controls who leads Russia right now
You would be surprised at human complacency
It's not about complacency, it's a fundamental practicality of dictatorships
see uh crap what's it called uh
the dictator's handbook
by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alastair Smith
The whole point of being dictator is that you don’t have to be held responsible to the rabble
There are solutions to this war that do not involve NATO declaring war
All of them
NATO would be stupid to declare war
NATO declaring war is not a solution
and theyre not gonna "have to" either
there's other solutions
is NATO thinking about doing it or something?
This is the American war in Vietnam or the Soviet war in Afghanistan
There's a lot of naive talk about a no fly zone
Which is the same as declaring war
No Fly Zone is a great political message
It is for certain politicians that I won’t name because this isn’t the time or place
just because Zelensky wants a no fly zone doesnt mean itll happen
A no fly zone would actually deny Ukrainian aircraft from operating
pretty sure they are hesitant
Reports of survivors emerging from rubble of bombed Mariupol theatre
Reports are emerging of survivors being rescued from the wreckage of a theatre bombed by Russian forces in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, according to local officials.
After an awful night of not knowing, we finally have good news from Mariupol on the morning of the 22nd day of the war. The bomb shelter [of the theatre] was able to hold. The rubble is beginning to be cleared.
People are coming out alive.
In Mariupol, the release of civilians from the rubble of the drama theater has begun.
The building withstood the impact of a high-powered air bomb and protected the lives of people hiding in the bomb shelter. Work is under way to unlock the basement.
- Liudmyla Denisova, the Ukrainian parliament’s commissioner for human rights
There is only one end to a no fly zone and it's this:
Russian aircraft enters Ukrainian airspace, a NATO installation shoots it down, Russia says NATO just declared war, NATO and Russia are at war
Which is why it wont and never will happend
Exactly
a no fly zone is the same as declaring war
which cannot happen under any circumstances
mutually assured destruction still exists uno
More than 187,000 refugees from Ukraine have arrived in Germany since Russia’s invasion three weeks ago, according to Germany’s interior ministry.
German police have recorded 187,428 refugees, mostly women, children and older people, as of Thursday, the ministry said.
Around 4,500 Ukrainian refugees have also been registered in Spain, although the real number is probably much higher, Spain’s migration minister, José Luis Escrivà, said today.
"It is difficult to know the real number of refugees because many go directly to their families here in Spain without registering with the authorities."
More than 3 million people have fled Ukraine in what the UN Refugee Agency called Europe’s worst refugee crisis since the second world war.
i dont think a no fly zone is going to happen
pretty sure most of nato doesnt want it
nobody does
zelensky cant make it happen himself either
A Russian court has extended the arrest of US basketball star Brittney Griner for at least two more months, according to Russian state news agency Tass.
Tass quoted the Khimkinsky court of the Moscow region as saying:
The court granted the request of the investigation and extended the period of detention of the US citizen Griner until May 19.
Griner, a two-time Olympic champion, has been detained by Russian customs authorities, who claim they discovered vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage at an airport near Moscow. She was arrested last month and could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of bringing drugs into Russia.
The Russian state-owned news agency also quoted Ekaterina Kalugina, a member of Russia’s public monitoring commission, a semi-official body with access to Russian prisons.
Kalugina told Tass that Griner, 31, was sharing a cell with two other women with no previous convictions, adding that Griner’s only issue was that the prison beds were too short for her 6’7” frame. Brittney Griner pictured at Barclays Center on 25 August 2021 in Brooklyn, New York City.
There remains a “very big gap” between Ukraine and Russia in peace talks between the two nations, Western officials have said.
Reuters quotes an unnamed official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, as saying that both sides are taking peace talks seriously but that there was little sign of an imminent breakthrough:
“Both sides are taking them seriously but there is a very, very big gap between the positions in question.”
Another official said: “Those ... who saw [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin addressing the nation yesterday would be forgiven for thinking that Russia was not in compromising mood.”

I still doubt a NO fly Zone is happening
Ukraine isnt powerful enough of a country to basically"force it" either
their air defence hasn't gotten worse
and it will get better with deliveries from the west
Russia doesn't have air superiority
I’ve been tracking the Russian navy from the start of the conflict
a no fly zone wont happen because it's basically declaring war. there is other solutions. NATO isnt stupid enough to declare war on a superpower with nuclear missiles
We are going to make Putin fail in other ways
Sactions are going to cripple russian economy the likes we have never seen before
we will continue to arm Ukraine
There is no way forward for Putin.
Europe has come too far to be bullied by another dictator with ideas from a past century.
I think a good peace treaty would involve new referendums in Crima, Donetsk, and Lugansk
not a bad idea
lines on a map shouldn't really matter in this day and age
we are no longer living in a zero sum world
if your neighbours do well, you do well
While I understand Ukrainian claims on that era, self determination is very important
well yeah but, it's not like these area's were wanting to break free before Putin started to fund speratists
It's what Putin will do to baltic states if he conquers Ukraine
While a fair point, Ukraine initially wanted to stay in the Soviet Union and changed their mind within the span of 5 months
So opinions can change
if putin goes after baltics thats WW3
he won't attack directly, he will fund sepratist sentiments first, then arm seperatists groups..just like he did in Ukraine.
he also funds these politicians in the west. Here in the Netherlands we had elections yesterday. One of the politicians was saying how Putin is a great guy, how we should ally with them. How the war is not Putin's fault but ours.
he got some seats in some cities
happy my city didn't give him any votes
lets just hope a no fly zone doesnt happen because zelensky keeps begging and pleading

The World Health Organization said it has so far verified 43 attacks on health care, with 12 people killed and 34 injured, including health workers in Ukraine. The agency said the war is having “devastating consequences for the health of Ukraine’s people; consequences that will reverberate for years or decades to come” during remarks made at the United Nations security council meeting on Thursday.

The Ukrainian air force says the aircraft repair plant in Lviv was struck by cruise missiles fired from the direction of the Black Sea.
It also confirmed that two other Russian missiles were reportedly shot down by Ukrainian anti-aircraft defences before reaching their target.
The plant was not in operation at the time of the strike and so far casualties have been reported, Lviv city mayor Andriy Sadovy said.

things are worse in mariupol and kharkiv...but that would be because those places are still besieged, i jost hope the russian army never reaches kiev
wha?
Subway is still operating in Russia and sending their profits towards Putin’s missile programs
Russians seem to have learned a few lessons from 94, like not directly entering a city to do urban warfare
oh
94?
Chechnya, specially Grozny, where they took horrific losses in the city in prolonged urban warfare
They seem to be avoiding entering larger cities
Kherson seems to be an exception but I do not know if the Ukrainian Army was defending there
nestle is also still in Russia
nestle owns a lot of food companies
the boss of nestle said one of the evils in this world is ngo's like amnesty international pleading for water to be a human right
he claims water is a comodity and should always be sold at a price for a profit
Nestle is the epitome of disgusting commodification of human necessities

Russian troops have reportedly stopped a convoy of busses traveling to Mariupol to evacuate residents, according to the Kyiv Independent.
Citing the Berdyansk City council, the outlet said the convoy was stopped a few kilometres outside Berdyansk and refused entry into the city limits, and the drivers were not permitted to spend the night.
China’s foreign minister says the country time will tell that they stand on the right side of history over the Ukraine crisis.
China had “always stood for maintaining peace and opposing war, and that its position was “objective and fair, and is in line with the wishes of most countries”.
“Time will prove that China’s claims are on the right side of history,” he said according to a statement published by the ministry.
Thousands of residents of Mariupol have been taken to Russia against their will, where they have been “redirected” to remote cities in the country, the Mariupol city council has said.
Air raid alerts go off in almost every region of Ukraine.

Many of the infants also have health problems.

👍 great sight
Respect they know that they’ll get arrested as soon as they get into Russia and yet they do that
they in space for a reason
Why are people saying the Russian astronauts are wearing Ukrainian colours
They'd have to get a shipment to them with those suits if it was
Otherwise it's literally just their regular space suit which is blue and yellow
Russia has given Ukraine until 5am to surrender Mariupol, after which it says it'll let the 130,000 remaining civilians leave.
The language it uses for Kyiv's forces – "nationalists," "foreign mercenaries," "bandits" – leaves little doubt about what Russia has in store for them.

Ill be surprised if someone does survive, but lets hope for the best
So it is indeed a nose dive
Owwwhhhh yeah i just saw the vid
It is a nose dive
Yeah, the ADS-B data checks out
A friend in another server almost booked that flight
Oof, super lucky
sorry to break it but.... not for Ukraine
they wore those suits before, in 2018
they are the colours of a Russian university where the entire crew came from
space suits also take months to prepare before being used so they cant do it so quickly

he was stopped by local police in GA, who searched his house literally because he was wearing cargo shorts
that entire case was thrown out, but because he had special gun licences with the federal government, the feds brought charges, and he went to federal prison for six weeks because he had like half an ounce of weed on him, and they seized and destroyed hundreds of thousands of dollars of firearms
he's still doing that podcast he does, uh PKA, the episodes where he talks about prison are pretty good, but I don't listen regularly

Japan has criticised Russia’s decision to withdraw from bilateral peace treaty talks to formally end World War Two hostilities between Moscow and Tokyo.
Russian forces 'largely stalled', UK defence says
A superyacht linked to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich was nearing the Turkish tourist resort of Marmaris on Tuesday, ship tracking data showed, a day after another yacht linked to him docked in the resort of Bodrum, also in southwest Turkey, according to a Reuters report.
There was no indication that Abramovich was aboard either of the vessels. He was among several wealthy Russians added last week to a European Union blacklist, and EU governments have acted in recent days to seize yachts and other luxury assets from them.
US President Joe Biden has said only India among the Quad group of countries was “somewhat shaky” in acting against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, as India tries to balance its ties with Russia and the west.
The Ukrainian military has claimed Russian forces have stockpiles of ammunition and food that will last for “no more than three days” in its operational report this morning. Officials said the situation is similar with fuel, adding: “Mobilisation is carried out chaotically ... most of them have no military specialty, because they have never served in the military.” Ukraine also claimed its forces have retaken the town of Makariv, just 50km west of Kyiv.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy urged direct talks with Vladimir Putin, saying: “Without this meeting it is impossible to fully understand what they are ready for in order to stop the war.” He also said his country will never bow to ultimatums from Russia and cities directly under attack, including the capital, Kyiv, and Mariupol and Kharkiv would not accept Russian occupation.
Russia’s false accusations that Ukraine has biological and chemical weapons is a “clear sign” that Vladimir Putin is considering using them himself, Joe Biden said. “[Putin’s] back is against the wall and now he’s talking about new false flags,” he said. The Pentagon has accused Russian forces of committing war crimes in Ukraine, saying there is “clear evidence” of such, and the spokesman of the US Defence Department said it would help gather evidence of them.
Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign affairs chief, heralded new plans to develop an “EU Rapid Deployment Capacity” that could allow the bloc to “swiftly deploy up to 5,000 troops” for different types of crises. He insisted a “European army” will not be created.
Russia threatened to cut ties with the US after Joe Biden called Vladimir Putin a war criminal, claiming his comments “put Russian-American relations on the verge of a breach”.
Almost 10,000 Russian soldiers may have already been killed in the war in Ukraine since Russia invaded almost four weeks ago, and more than 16,000 wounded, according to reports of previously-undisclosed figures from the defence ministry in Moscow revealed in a pro-Kremlin tabloid newspaper, Komsomolskaya Pravda. The paper later released a statement claiming it had been hacked.
British prime minister Boris Johnson is “desperate” to go to Ukraine and has a “real emotional connection” with the Ukrainian people, the Tory party chair has claimed. It was reported at the weekend that Johnson wanted to go to Kyiv but on Monday No 10 sources indicated this was unlikely to happen.
Some of Chernobyl’s exhausted workers have been permitted to leave the site.
The UK defence attaché has said Russia’s claims that it fired “hypersonic” missiles in western Ukraine is probably an effort to detract from the lack of progress in its ground campaign.
In Kyiv, a brand new shopping centre was destroyed in a missile attack that killed at least eight people, the largest attack yet on the capital.
The Ukrainian military said Russian forces hold the land corridor with Crimea and are blocking access to the Sea of Azov, according to a recent operational report.
A total of 2,421 civilian casualties have been recorded in Ukraine since Russia invaded, including 925 killed and 1,496 injured, according to an update from the UN Human Rights office (OHCHR).
Swimwear maker Speedo has ended its sponsorship with Russia's double Olympic swimming champion Evgeny Rylov after he attended a rally hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last week, Olympics news website insidethegames reported.

Russia completes 300 aircraft sorties over Ukraine in 24 hours.
A senior U.S. official said that while the frequency of military aircraft sorties by Russia has increased, it has still not achieved aerial supremacy.
Ukrainian troops liberate Makariv.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on March 21 that “the Ukrainian flag was raised over the town of Makariv” and Russian forces have been pushed back. Makariv is located 60 kilometres west from Kyiv.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has made an impassioned attempt to tell Russian soldiers, and the...
i really found his words moving and inspiring
ironically enough he is more popular than Putin
especially in Russia
to be a popular friend of russia too - especially in the 80/90's or idk how far back
they tried so hard to censor the guy but hes too popular
xD
the guy is a fricking legend
Russian casualties are now 10k minimum
i mean, who doesnt love arnold schwarzenegger?
Pro-Kremlin website confirmed before the article got pulled
putin, is putting lie upon lie upon lie, i mean he is just another hitler
his attitude towards ukraine, and ultimately europe is so nazi-like
A hitler
With nukes, lets hope his demented brain kills him before he pushes the button, which im pretty sure he wont
he is opposing a nation that is led by a jew
Nukes are more than pushing a button
But i did hear that he might put cyberattacks on the US, like the power supply and internet. Let’s hope it’s not one that does a lot of damage because if that’s the case Biden said he would basically give NATO the right to declare Article 5. I don’t think Biden would really want to start WW3 though.

Hiya: I now have 5 confirmations - the 5th from my pal fighter @brokenpixelua - this story is true, that Ukrainians have surrounded the Russian Army at Bucha, NW of Kyiv.
(Warning: I am in Kyiv centre so I can't verify this myself.)
That Vladimir Putin's war is in trouble.

Komsomolskaya Pravda, the pro-Kremlin tabloid, says that according to Russian ministry of defense numbers, 9,861 Russian soldiers died in Ukraine and 16,153 were injured. The last official Russian KIA figure, on March 2, was 498. Fascinating that someone posted the leaked number.

LMAO “TRYING TO DESTROY RUSSIA” WTF
Yes we totally have a “master🅱️lan” to destroy Russia
interesting
First time I see an actual NATO AWACS blatantly turning on their xponder
Even i didn't
So yeah
But just not buying oil the giv has done nothing but burden ur general population
Cause russia doesn't seem to give a darn about their currency
They are ready to become north Korea if need be
And immambe honest most countries will still purchase defence materials from them incl mine
Simply cause we can't pay the high end prices Lockheed Martin wants for their darn F fighter jets
The sad thing is that I dont think the majority of the russian people want to sacrifice their lives for this tho
Lockheed Martin is dicks. (I live in an area where Raytheon / Sikorsky / all those operate)
The military industrial complex is tight because it literally runs thousands of households
In india we have had good relationship with Russians for long and the west wants to drag our name into their conflict
Why on earth should we support any side in this
When I worked with the senate my senator green lit 200 million for nuclear subs...
In 2015...
like why the fuck
I think Putin thought this would be Georgia again
But this time there was no middle east conflict to distract
India should definitely just stay away, keep silently building that monster of an economy
But in all honesty we won't support him in war
Ive personally never heard that tbh
So it's him against the world
Belarus and China (and less by the day) are the only allies we hear about
I mean they say that cause our pm cares about his People more than pleasing the west
We increased our crude purchase from Russia cause we simply can't afford to pay premium to saydi
Why should we even
I also think its funny that "The West" is still a term
Youd think the cold war never ended
Hasn't man
It mutated
Why do u think nato exists
That's why Putin is agressive
There's a anti russia organization at large near his borders
Yeah, Putin was pissed because if Ukraine does join Russia becomes a much less defensible position
He's insecure
Yes
the buffers of nations would be gone
belarus is easy enough to defend, but
Well he should really have a right to do that tho
I realize that Americans say shit like that all the time, Im not saying were much better, but Ukraine wanted to work its way towards EU/Nato membership
let them, so long as its what they want
man america was playing ukraine
If Mexico or Canada decided to join the Russian Federation we would hate it a lot, but who are we to say
thats a fact ppl dont wanna accept
they just became the meat in the middle of the huge beef
I dont believe thats true. Apart from the oil interests, which is fair enough, I dont think thats at all what was happening.
Russia's Crimea move was purposeful
they had other motives....
u see
if they got ukraine into nato
they landblock russia
And?
like russia has no water access
their navy is under nato purview
and then they can control trades to russia
and their water
also have a base within a missile distance to kremlin
Then trade.
Russia bullies air space constantly, theres a reason flights avoid those paths.
i doubt russia wanted any of that
I think the intent was economic, the tactical benefits were a bonus.
The Ukraine has a ton of oil and Europe wouldnt need Russian pipelines anymore
yes , but nato has no business meddling with the current set of routes for russia, it was a part of having more view into russia
it backfired
terribly
That way oil becomes much more predictable
yes that too
its a lot of self interest
Backfired for putin tbh, because it wasnt about this before, but now it is
Lets be real, Russias got a stalling birthrate, an outdated military, and they still act like a superpower when nukes aside theyre about as powerful as canada
see there was a agreement
that the nato wont come any near russian borders
this was sealed back in 1980s
and thats how cold war ended
these mfs wanted to get in ukraine and violate the terms
putin got insecure
and he became a monster
I am well aware, but it wasnt nato going in, it was ukraine going out
the rest we know
The agreement also says nato can keep growing
the agreement russia wants is a nato cap
thats never going to happen, because why would nato decide on behalf of others that they cant join the club?
they were being manupilated into it man, america was telling how it will support ukraine if it stood up
tf did they do?
some sanctions?
weapons?
So tell me how we manipulated
thats not support
Gotta go for a bit, but let's keep it going this is interesting
no the fact that russia asked ukraine to stfu and america still encoraged this nato thing
idk man this seems to be huge
we dont know a lot
we are kept in the dark about most of the shit russia and the others are doing
nah i totally codemn the war, just feel america has more to do about it than it acts like
not to mention how the big boys made ukraine leave there nukes back in 1990s over "protection"
one of the big boys broke the agreement and the other 2 , one is sending cash and weapons the other is shouting in the parliment
Why does Russia get to tell ukraine to stfu tho
They don't, that's why the fight started
Bravo we are back to square 1

It's a circle we will never understand there's so much we don't know
Not worth discussing tbf
Not sure I get it
If a country tries to prevent another from free exercise, why wouldnt we all be against that?
And yes, the US has done it
Not excusing it,
U aren't and russia isn't happy they are being played with
And it isn't wrong to support ukraine
Just that they are a chess piece
In a big game
There's nothing anybody can do about it
Don't get me started
Let's stop this discussion this leads to nowhere
Yeah but i dont know that "being played with" gives Russia the right to bring tanks into it
I mean yeah, but it really is interesting
They don't have the right
Thanks for sharing your perspective I really do appreciate it
That's exactly why there is a fight
Its easy for all of us to get stuck in our country's narrative bubbles
Yes
And digging up i find both parties at fault
But russia is more of a dick here
And Putin should go to hell for his crimes
The asshole wanted war
He got to power using war
And he is using it as a instrument to this date
That said, I hope the Ukraine keeps up the good fight, theyre punching way above their level.
Its inspiring
It is
Man idk about this it's just pointless from day 1
They just can't beat russia
It is inspiring but it is killing ppl
Ppl are dying. And for what? Ukraine can't even win without support from nato who clearly don't give a darn
Civilians are being bombed
To their credit, they are doing what I don’t think Putin thought they would do, fight back
But you are right
It hurts Putin but it isn't good for the general people
Putin will recover tomorrow
But the people who died are gone
And they died in vain
Cause the country didn't even win
How much worse can it get
It is
My heart goes out to everyone that has been affected
I really hope ukraine surrenders at this point
I know it's below their dignity but honestly it's achieving nothing now, they tried and if nato supported they could have even won
It's delaying the inevitable and causing more casualities
If they surrender they are proving Putin can do this to any other country though
Well not any other, but a lot of the surrounding ones
Causing more wars
And more invasions
If Putin moves his finger in any of the nato areas usa will drop their.bags
No
The surrounding areas are nato
Putin won't dare
He is scared of a nuclear war himself
He is making those threats so he can go Scott free
Tbf he has nothing to gain
If usa does involve and somehow manage to cripple russia , there's nothing much russia can do
They are economically dead
A nuclear war? Nah they can't last for a week
Putin knows that but he uses that N button to scare the rest
Idk
I don’t trust him to say he wont
True
They are killing their economy with that ukraine stunt itself
They have nothing left for other ears
Wars*
As long as china doesn’t provide support
If he did plan it
They are beside a nuclear power and they will defi try make noise while they are at their support business
India won't stay silent then
India has a policy of not getting into a fight but I'd their neighbours make noise they will
I doubt China likes the fact that their capital is within a distance of a nuclear warhead
Putin is losing support by the day, thats the endgame
based stoltenberg
If there's a nuclear war both NATO and Russia are fucked
But a lot of EU countries would prob be fairly okay seeing it's useless to nuke countries like Belgium, they could get radiation from bombs dropped in Germany or France tho
not nuking american army bases in belgium
not nuking NATO headquarters
not nuking EU parliament, council, commission or the entire EU quarter
I hope u are an advisor to putin, we may stand a chance
Forgot about Belgium being the centre of NATO and the EU lmao
How do we know which fighters are fighting for ukraine

It concerns me how people on the internet react to this
And how they react to wars in general
Most people i see online are asympathetic here
Theyd rather have ukraine assfucked by putin
Many people in my country are either incredibly apathetic about this or passionate about Ukraine to the point of willing to support a larger war to “save lives”, and it seems that more people gravitate to the extremes
what country are you in if I may ask?
War. War never changes.

Biden to visit Polish town less than 50 miles from Ukraine border
We are getting more detail on the plan for US President Joe Biden’s visit to Poland later today.
AFP says Biden will travel to a town near the Polish-Ukrainian border on Friday, in an attempt to signal Western resolve against a Russian invasion that has increasingly turned to a grinding war of attrition.
Air Force One will jet into the eastern Polish town of Rzeszow - bringing the US president less than 80 kilometres (50 miles) from Ukrainian soil.
He will travel to Warsaw in the evening. In Poland, Biden will also receive a briefing on the dire humanitarian situation in Ukraine, which has seen more than 3.5 million people pour out of the country.
Russia and Ukraine exchanged prisoners in the first swap of soldiers since Moscow ordered troops into Ukraine one month ago, Ukraine’s vice-prime minister, Iryna Vereshchuk, said writing the first “full-fledged exchange of prisoners of war took place” where 10 “captured occupiers” were exchanged for 10 Ukrainian servicemen. In a recent update published to her official Telegram channel just before midnight local time, Vereshchuk said the humanitarian hostages taken in Mangush have been released.
Ukraine accused Moscow of forcibly taking hundreds of thousands of civilians from shattered Ukrainian cities to Russia, where some may be used as “hostages” to pressure Kyiv to give up.
G7 leaders said they are resolved to impose severe consequences on Russia and stand ready to apply additional measures “as required”. In a joint statement, they condemned Vladimir Putin’s “war of choice” and his “unjustifiable, unprovoked and illegal” aggression in Ukraine.
Russia has been hit with 65 new sanctions by the UK, in a move the Foreign Office said was designed to target “key strategic industries and individuals”. Among those hit were six banks and a defence company that produces drones, as well as the Wagner Group, which Britain said had reportedly been tasked with assassinating the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
The United Nations general assembly voted overwhelmingly to call on Russia to stop its war on Ukraine immediately and to provide more aid access and civilian protection in Ukraine. The resolution received 140 votes in favour and five votes against - Russia, Syria, North Korea, Eritrea and Belarus - while 38 countries abstained.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk on Thursday said Russian forces had tortured Ukrainian prisoners. The allegations could not be independently verified.
"We will find every Russian soldier who commits war crimes, along with their accomplices”
The U.S. ambassador to Mexico on Thursday urged Mexican lawmakers to join the United States in supporting Kyiv against Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a day after his Russian counterpart encouraged Mexico to defy "Uncle Sam."

Zelensky said if the sanctions had been preventative, there was a chance Russia would not have gone to war. He told the council:

Ukraine has 'dealt powerful blows' to Russian forces – Zelenskiy
The US has observed more than 1,250 missile launches since the start of the invasion.
It appears that the Russians are at the moment not pursuing a ground offensive towards Kyiv, but “they are digging in, they are establishing defensive positions, they don’t show any signs of being willing to move on Kyiv from the ground”.
The US is still observing airstrikes on Kyiv, but nothing on the ground “in keeping with our assessment of a couple of days ago that they are going to prioritise the eastern part of the country”.
Mutinous Russian troops ran over their own commander, say western officials
Just an update on the China Eastern 737 crash in China, it's been confirmed after analyzing the impact point, there is nobody that managed to get out alive.
Sad. It fell in a really weird way.
yeah, hopefully they can find that second black box which fired off a gps signal again earlier today to figure out the cause
but yeah really terrible
I watched the 737 Max documentary on Netflix last night its excellent if you are interested.
Somehow the way it fell is quite similar to the max...
Definitely will check it out tq, yeah that's going to take some time to find out
i feel 737's should be grounded again maybe
i think thatll depend on whether its an actual flaw within the aircraft design or manufacturing itself
or whether that's due to pilot error, issues out of the book
It is important to remember how many 737s there are. Also they have been around since the 60s
But Boeing is losing its reputation. In the last years hardly any Airbus have crashed.
yeah definitely hurting them heavily
but grounding a whole fleet isnt destructive on boeing but also the airlines themselves
many low cost airliners run 737s
Although statistically more A320 have crashed than 737, but not in recent times
Ryanair only fly 737s, it would be a complete mess if all are grounded, that's why it won't happen
yeah unless the aircrafts have an actual manufacturing flaw
Which is highly unlikely, unless more crash in the next months
That hopefully wont happen
Note theres also many 737 models. Iirc this was a older one in service since like early 2010s. So i think its quite unlikely its due to a flaw present in every plane of that type since then we wouldve known far earlier (like with the MAX)
This one is the 737 NG, a generation before the MAX started flying commercially in 1997
The accident aircraft however was first flown in 2015
There's something interesting tho
The flight crew consisted of three pilots, five flight attendants, and a security guard.
•Captain Yang Hongda had been employed as a Boeing 737 pilot since January 2018, with a total of 6,709 flight hours.
•First officer Zhang Zhengping was amongst China's most experienced commercial pilots, with 31,769 hours, and a flight instructor for China Eastern, having trained more than 100 captains; he was awarded the honorary title "Meritorious Pilot" of civil aviation in 2011.
•Second officer (as observer) Ni Gongtao, with a total of 556 hours flight hours, was aboard to fulfill training duties.
We talking about MU5735?
Yes
but the way the aircraft just came down like that
plane was literally almost vertical
It is indeed rather questionable
Yeah very scary how it went from 29K to 3K in a matter of seconds
i mean china has one of the strictest air regulations
even more than what the FAA has
The fact that, one of the most experienced pilot in China was one of the flight crew but he was the first officer and not the captain
well that really doesn't relate to the crash
most airlines runs through seniority but as a first officer you'd have much more control over your schedules
routes
and so forth
I mean, the crew is very capable
as previous pilots have stated, it depends on if the pilot wants to take that position and being a senor FO is better than being a low man captain
some are career driven, some just prefer to remain on a certain route and have that breathing space
My cousin just got sued by the Russian ambassador in Italy wow
He’s a journalist
He wrote an article where he analysed the possibility of murdering Putin to end the catastrophe
He stated that it obviously wasn’t the solution
And he got sued
Amazing
he an independent journalist?
He isn’t
or
oh so he'll be represented by them, should be fine hopefully
His reply to the ambassador was “he should learn to use Google translate better”
Lmao

Ye he should be fine
Not even joking that’s what he officially responded
no way it didnt lose its wings
lol they literally dont have the resources to take the entire country though
Russia struck military targets in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv with high-precision cruise missiles, the Russian defence ministry said on Sunday.
In an early update on Sunday, Ukraine’s general staff said it had repelled seven enemy attacks in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of the Donbas, destroying eight tanks.
Despite reaching one of the darkest moments in more than 40 years as a dissident and human rights activist, Oleg Orlov says that he has no plans to flee Russia.
Two humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians from conflict zones have been agreed for Sunday, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister Iryna Vereshchuk has said, including from Mariupol.
Residents of the besieged Donetsk city will be allowed to use their own transport to get to the city of Zaporizhzhia, around 250km away, she said in a post on Telegram.
People trying to escape the fighting in the neighbouring Luhansk region will be allowed to evacuate from the city of Rubizhne to Bakhmut, about 80km away.
Russia has started destroying Ukrainian fuel and food storage depots, meaning the government will have to disperse the stocks of both in the near future, Ukrainian Interior Ministry adviser Vadym Denysenko has said according to Reuters.
Speaking on local television, Denysenko also said Russia was bringing forces to the Ukrainian border on rotation, and could make new attempts to advance in its invasion of Ukraine.
As US president Joe Biden was visiting Poland on Saturday, Russian missiles struck the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, just 60 kilometres from the Polish border.
The timing of the attacks, only the third on west Ukrainian targets since the war began, and the closest to Lviv’s city centre and its residential areas, was clearly designed to send a message to the White House. At least five people were injured and one of the strikes hit a fuel storage facility.
Ukraine has asked the International Committee of the Red Cross not to open a planned office in Russia’s Rostov-on-Don, Reuters reports, saying it would legitimise Moscow’s “humanitarian corridors” and the abduction and forced deportation of Ukrainians.
The head of the ICRC said on Thursday after his talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that agreement between the Russian and Ukrainian armies was needed before civilians could be evacuated properly from war-torn Ukraine.

pretty rough to be a well thinking russian these days
Russian media is suddenly explicit about what Russia is really doing in Ukraine. Citing Vasily Zenkovsky's writings from 1931, propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov laid it out: "Russia will never cede Ukraine to anyone... it has to be part of Russia, even against Ukraine's own will."

That 5th screen. It is small Polish cargo aircraft (on image from PL Wiki). It isn't important comparing to other planes
i thought something happened
but it just nothing
PZL Mielec isn't producing fighter jets. Now they are producing one farming aircraft, two trainer aircrafts and one cargo. It used to produce until early 90s MiG-15 and MiG-17 on license as Lim-1, Lim-2 (MiG-15); Lim-5, Lim-6 (MiG-17)
but like what would they see as a "threat to the country" though?
knowing putin this is the scary part
its good that they wont use them in the ukraine situation, but who the fuck knows what putin would see as a threat to his country
Congrats @half schooner, you're now on lap 10
Reuters has a direct quote from Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, addressing the start of peace talks in Istanbul. He told delegates:
It is up to the sides to stop this tragedy. Achieving a ceasefire and peace as soon as possible is to the benefit of everyone. We think we have now entered a period where concrete results are needed from talk. The negotiating process, which you have been carrying out under the orders of your leaders, has raised hopes for peace.
There is also photographic evidence to confirm that sanctioned oligarch Roman Abramovich is indeed in the room.

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskiy has posted on Twitter to say he had thanked Czech prime minister Petr Fiala, saying “he noted the significant humanitarian and security assistance, exceptional treatment of Ukrainians who found temporary shelter in the Czech Republic”.
'Cold welcome, no handshake' at start of peace talks in Istanbul – reports
Ukrainian television is reporting that the peace talks in Istanbul started with “a cold welcome, no handshake”, although it isn’t clear whether reporters witnessed this, or have just been informed this was the case.
Mykhailo Podolyak, a political adviser to the Ukrainian president, Volodymr Zelenskiy, said on Twitter the delegations were discussing “the fundamental provisions of the negotiation process. Delegations are working in parallel on the entire spectrum of contentious issues.”
Russia’s defence ministry has claimed it has destroyed a major fuel depot in Ukraine’s Rivne region. The Guardian and Reuters have not independently verified this.
At the same time, Gazprom has just announced that gas exports to the rest of Europe via Ukraine remain high. The RIA news agency reported that gas has been flowing at a rate of just over 109m cubic metres per day, which is in line with the Kremlin-owned Gazprom’s contractual obligations.
We have the very first read-out from talks in Istanbul coming out in brief on Reuters at the moment. The key points to have emerged so far are:
Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky has said there will be a statement after the talks, in several hours.
Russia say they have protested to the Ukraine delegation over the alleged abuse of Russian prisoners – no doubt a reference to the video circulating purporting to show the torture of Russian prisoners of war.
Ukraine’s presidential advisor has said the main issue for Ukraine at the talks is security guarantees, with humanitarian issues second.
There are also briefings coming out of the Russian defence ministry, the regular daily press briefing from the Kremlin, and a press event from the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Roman Abramovich and other Ukranian peace negotiators supposedly suffered and showed signs of poisoning at peace talks
In Romans trip to Kyiv, he had lost his sight for several hours, and other symptoms that are consistent with the poisoning of chemical weapons. He alongside Rustem was treated at a Clinic in Turkey.
kind of relieved that we aren't all screwed right now
yup
however
we could still be all screwed if chemical weapons are used
because US and NATO would respond and potentially trigger WW3, which would possibly end the world
they probs werent gonna use it anywyas
it couldve damaged poland and russia
Today so far …
Russian shells have bombarded the besieged Ukrainian city of Chernihiv overnight, its mayor has said, hours after the Kremlin claimed it would halt attacks there and in Kyiv out of respect for ongoing peace talks.
Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the talks had been “positive but they do not drown out the explosions of Russian shells”, adding that Ukraine had no intention of reducing its military efforts. Zelenskiy said Ukrainians are “not naive people” and he saw “no reason to trust the words of certain representatives of a state that continues to fight for our destruction”.
Ukrainian presidential advisor Oleksiy Arestovych said Russia is moving forces from northern to eastern Ukraine to try to encircle Ukrainian troops.
The regional Donetsk governor, Pavlo Kyrylenko, has said Russian forces are shelling nearly all cities along the frontline separating Ukrainian government-controlled territory from the self-proclaimed republic of Donetsk in the east.
Moscow’s lead negotiator, Vladimir Medinsky, said Russia’s promise to “drastically reduce” military operations does not represent a ceasefire. In an interview with the Russian state-owned Tass news agency, Medinsky said there is still “a long way to go” to reach a mutual agreement with Ukraine.
Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, Iryna Vereshchuk, said there is still a danger of ammunition exploding at the defunct Chernobyl nuclear power station, and demanded “the UN security council immediately take measures to demilitarise the Chernobyl exclusion zone and introduce a special UN mission there to eliminate the risk of the repeat of a nuclear catastrophe.”
She also said Ukraine had asked Russia at talks in Istanbul yesterday to allow 97 humanitarian corridors to be established to the worst-hit towns, cities, and villages in Ukraine. Three have been set up for today.
The UN’s refugee agency, UNHCR, has said that 4.02 million people have left Ukraine since the Russian invasion began on 24 February. More than 2.3 million of the Ukrainians who have fled abroad are now in Poland. On top of the 4 million refugees, an estimated 6.5 million people are internally displaced within the country.
The British government said on Wednesday it had issued 25,500 visas to Ukrainians under schemes set up to bring in refugees. Just 2,700 places have been offered on the sponsorship scheme, despite over 150,000 British people expressing an interest in offering a home.
The United Nations has named three human rights experts to conduct an investigation into possible war crimes and other violations committed during the conflict in Ukraine. The independent panel will be led by Erik Mose, a Norwegian judge who was president of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda from 2003 to 2007.
China and Russia have agreed “wider co-operation” after a meeting of Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in the eastern Chinese province of Anhui.
Germany has declared an “early warning” that it could be heading for a gas supply emergency and said the measure was aimed at preparing for a possible disruption of natural gas flows from Russia.
2 Ukrainians killed in Tel Aviv suburb shooting.
Both Ukrainians were from Chernivtsi and lived in Israel, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko told Suspilne. A total of 5 people were killed due to the terrorist attack in a Tel Aviv suburb Bnei Brak on March 29.

im know i shouldn't laugh
