#Thoughts on the "GOAT OF F1" Debate

I came across this short today, and I pulled up what Schumacher's point total may have looked like with the 25-points system. (There were no sprints or fastest lap points in his day.)
I think the goat depends on what statistics you care about
Not to be boring, but that's genuinely what I think the truth is
Personally speaking, I feel like it depends on what you believe and what you know about each driver.
If you were to look at the statistics, no bias at all, then the best driver of all time would be Lewis Hamilton. He won 7 championships, has most wins, podiums, poles, etc.
Some people will digress (including myself), because there were people who were really incredible, but did not have the same amount of titles or success as Lewis.
Really just comes down to opinion and who you prefer or not.
Schumacher did race against Lewis, and if I correctly remember Lewis won
It was at monza
23 laps battle
Max Verstappen.
but it wasn't exactly on level terms, Schumacher was at his 40s and Hamilton was relatively new to the grid first battling each other in 2010 and the Merc wasn't exactly a fast car compared to the McLaren
imo Schumacher is the GOAT, no disrespect to Lewis but his dominant era in 2014-2020 wasn't really that competative (except Rosberg 2016) the Merc was the absolute fastest car and competition wasn't that great, compared to Michael he had better drivers to face in his career, Senna,Hakkinen,Alonso and Prost etc.. (Prost albeit only faced for 2 full seasons)
while Lewis' closest title rival (2014-2020) before 2021 was Vettel and Rosberg
Schumacher is better than Hamilton but I think we are forgetting the third option
That being Prost
Who would be a seven time world champion using today’s format
And retired the same year he won his fifth, his final race being P2 to Senna
Jim Clark and Max Verstappen are also options
Fangio as well
i dont think theres an actual "GOAT of F1" because all of the drivers mentioned mostly raced in completely different eras where its impossible to compare 1 to another because the sport was so different
theres definitely greatest drivers of certain eras but there isn't 1 thats objectively better than the rest because the cars were so different (if you put say lewis in a 90s car he wouldn't be anywhere near as fast as senna because they're just different to what hes used to)
thats why theres no greatest of ALL time, but id say for each decade itd go something like
50s - fangio
60s - clark
70s - lauda
80s - prost
90s - senna
00s - schumacher
10s - hamilton
20s so far - verstappen
it would be unfair to pick 1 driver out of all of those and say they're better than everyone else
not to mention there's other drivers that are also worthy of being on that list
PERFECT statement, my friend. You read my mind.
True but he still had a pretty good fight
One of the goat but not the GOAT
ROBERT KUBICA THE GOAT
Pastor Maldonado, Lance Stroll and Latifi, The Dark Triad
very true
Why are we including pastor in this
Monaco
