#OT Sign?

for this year what used to be overtake is now boost but less powerful i think and overtake is now the new "DRS", they can use full power on those straights when within a second but it still takes away from their battery. this is how i understand it atm and im about 90% sure thats right
you are somewhat right, the OT signs are to represent the place where the gap to car ahead is measured (or when it actually becomes available to you, i'm not sure which of those 2 cuz these zones are really close together on this track) and if you are within 1s of the car ahead in the detection zone on the next lap you get .5MJ extra regeneration for your battery AND the energy falloff is much lesser than without it, you only start losing energy at around 340kph where normally you start losing it at around 290kph
christ
havent seen that graph yet, thats an INSANE advantage
yes it is
but the additional regeneration is a joke it's only a ~6% increase compared to normal regeneration
regeneration as a whole this ruleset is absurd
the regulations couldve been so good if they didnt mess with the engines
im praying overtake does SOMETHING to make overtaking possible tomorrow, even if its a huge mess
i mean IMO they should just reduce the electrical output much more in the early phases to reduce clipping and make the battery last longer than half a lap
might be a good idea
im worried for tracks like vegas, monza and baku, thatll be an absolute MESS on the straights
remember that the "battery unfriendly" tracks have a reduced battery output limit per lap compared to normal limit
i mean the overtake mode is a great idea in my opinion but the execution was kinda poor, the electrical PU now has to do way more while having less recharching capabilities without MGU-H
ah true, still wont be ideal tho
ofc it's not ideal but it's something that FIA thought of and implemented
it seems like it could definitely help overtaking, but we'll have to wait till tomorrow to find out, hopefully Max will be a good test subject considering hes probably gonna be using it a lot
yeah lol
i think it's kind of also to fight with the DRS trains because often the person ahead could just save up battery and not get overtaken in DRS but with how much ERS gives now it shouldn't be possible
yeah exactly, but tbf with how the grid is spread out this year i dont think we need to worry about trains 😭
yeah but it could help in a few years time
and in a few years the engine will probably get better so the battery will last longer
but Super Clipping is purely there because of rules and how the engine stops working after hitting a certain speed
It's only an insane advantage if the following driver has sufficient energy, which is rarely the case once they get to those speeds, especially in the race.
The deployment isn't actually limited in the new rule set, as far as I know, only the recharge is limited, so you could really spend a lot on one lap to get a pass done but you're then disadvantaged on the next lap.
No, what we see in the graph above isn't super clipping, it's just the highest amount of power from the MGU-K relative to the car's speed.
Super clipping is the lap time optimized way of charging the battery (with up to 250 kW) while the driver is still fully on the throttle.
yeah i hate it gng
defo gives way more overtakes but that doesnt mean more entertaining racing
