Can only be used in DRS zones after a certain number of laps after the green flag/after a safety car, you have to be within one second of the car ahead, and that second has to be timed at the DRS detection zone
2 laps
What if
Let's say point a to b is the drs zone
3 or more cars are present there
Cars with another car at least 1 second in front get DRS, the number of cars doesn’t matter
Take for exemple cars A, B & C. Imagine car A is 0.800s behind car B and car B is 0.600 seconds behind car C. Car B gets the DRS because they are less then a second behind the car in front, in that case car A. Car C would also get the DRS, but from car B, since they are less then a second behind it. In other words, they just care about the car directly ahead of you when calculating your gap, not the car in front of you mini-pack. The problem with it is that car C can't overtake car B because B also has DRS to be faster to defend, and car B has a hard time overtaking car A because they are not fully focused on the car ahead, A, and don't want to try to risky moves to fail and get overtaken by the car behind, so C. The resulting situation is usualy 3+ cars all within a second of each other, but no one overtakes anyone because the simply can't. This is what is called a DRS train. (i.e. Vegas 2024)
I hope this is understandable!
Thanks very
And DRS while being able to increase the speed of the car can also cause problems to rookies as they are not used to closing them quick enough for the corners and ones in a while someone bins it in the wall
Well, this only happend once to one driver on one specific track due to a slight overlook on this one simulator, so that is more of a one time incident than a generalised thing (I'm talking about Doohan FP1 Japan 2025)
Don't listen to him, DRS automaticly closes when you press on the brakes
The issue that there was fod Doohan in FP1 in Japan is that you take turn 1 flatout, but you need the rear downforce, so you should close DRS manualy because you didn't break there, and the problem is that in his simulator (you could also try in the F1 games, it is exactly the same) the DRS automaticly closed after a certain point, and due to that, he didn't have the muscle memory of closing manualy his DRS
no turn 1 you have to brake mid-corner
Yeah, sorry, I was mistaken, but it still is the same effect : You start turning when still being flatout, so drs makes your car turn into a beyblade
