#How can racing be improved at Monaco?

smaller cars
Race in go-karts
Choose a track based on excitement and fan appreciation rather than money and glamour
Build a platform in the harbour that either features a track extension based on Silverstone or Spa, or routed across the decks of the yachts
Acc what real oscar piastri said 😂
Jokes aside, I think Monaco should be kept but it's the current cars that are the issue.
Smaller and lighter cars are the solution, but it will always be lower on overtakes than pretty much any other track.
if they make track a bit wider here there it might be a good overtaking opportunity
special monaco tyres that degrade super quickly
and banning red flag tyre changes
or mandate a 2 stop
Watched a video that referenced this area, apparently there's some fancy stone wall there or massive gradient change between the two lanes or something so it can't be done.
Might be inaccurate though.
to make that a better opportunity to overtake there is the frequently discussed roundabout available that could extend the straight through the tunnel
this
So at T7 they would go straight and do a long righthander, rejoining at T8? That's cool, they should consider that.
yeah unfortunately it would be a bit of a death trap if they added drs
if this wall is irremovable then welp that makes sense
but maybe they’d be able to do it
Back when DRS was first introduced you could use it wherever whenever (although presumably not under yellows) in practice and quali (or at least on F1 2011 😂) but I believe IRL it was banned at Eau Rouge and the Monaco tunnel at least
if they removed this yellow thingy then maybe, mayhe
although its close af to water
but then just make a huge wall there or something that you can remove after
ez? ez
Yeah they had it in the tunnel but then perez crashed
And they decided it was too dangerous
Although I think its the runoff that is dangerous there and not the drs
alr nvm this building is probably already removed
but i think they still can make this hard braking zone be a bit later
apparently that bit is man made and isnt part of the main road so they can just move it back
I don't believe the crash itself was caused by DRS - it doesn't seem to be open on the footage. However, I can understand why they'd ban it there to stop a similar or worse accident.
get rid of the 10/11 chicane, and drive the track in reverse.
= fast corner enteres a long straight, with a 90° corner at the end = overtake possibility.
i mean obvs would need huge alterations
I like this quite a lot! I was examining that roundabout on Google earth and realized that there was a potential to create a straight heading into a hairpin and then back onto a straight that then leads into the tunnel. It could be achieved by turning off the roundabout and heading onto Avenue Princess Grace and then creating a hairpin by turning onto the opposite direction of the avenue. If the new hairpin and straights were widened, it could potentially be a good place for divebombs.
wouldnt it be too narrow then?
probably
I did some measurements on Google earth, it could theoretically fit two cars side by side.
But it would barely fit two
If they removed the plant in the hairpin and moved the sidewalk back a few feet, it could improve the width
Unfortunately I don't know exactly how far the sidewalk could be moved inwards because there is no set minimum sidewalk width in monaco.
I think the main concern would be the lack of runoff
And adding such a narrow straight would be interesting safety wise
Bring back the 2005 cars
Add a jump over the harbour
What we do is that we make special cars for the Monaco that kinda look like the ones from the 50's but with HALO's and using 80's style tyres
Cars are small enough with the look alike, Tests drivers actual driving ability with the tyres that have grip when they ABSOLUTELY need it, and it can keep the more modern setup of the track
OK, good idea, but
- This won't happen.
- One of the main reasons that cars don't look like 50s cars anymore is because of necessary safety evolutions - these proposed 'Monaco cars' would end up looking very different to the 50s cars they were aiming to look like.
It's a good, interesting idea but very very unlikely to happen.
Double the hairpin
make the track thinner
redo the kerbing on the inside of sainte devote so that the corner is less sharp and a bit wider at the apex
remove the tree which has roots underneath the track as a bump
widen the entry to mirabeau haute
add the frequently discussed roundabout into the layout
widen the area near the port chicane
move said chicane closer to tabac and widen it up as an overtaking opportunity
drs detection 1 moved to start of tunnel, drs activation 1 moved to shortly after exit of tunnel
widen the exit of la rascasse
drs detection and activation 2 stay the same as original drs detection and activation 1
everything else stays the same
not all of these changes would be easy to implement but it would certainly change race stories if they were
I know this is 10 months later but I just saw a video from the YouTube channel Fun With Tracks and his video on improving the racing at Monaco. He proposed a new chicane that replaces the old chicane, but this new chicane is build on artificial land. He even drew up a render of what this would look like.
