#Why does F1 have such long periods of dominance?

So i got into F1 quite recently, and while looking through the historic winners (i wanted to know a bit of history) i saw that F1 has had a lot of dominance through the years

Why is it always one team winning? Even if you have 4 good teams you still have one winning repeatedly, if you look at the major winners since the 80s you basically have only Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari and some McLaren dominance in the 80s and 90s, i know that 2012 was pretty close between Alonso and Vettel, but it was again Vettel winning. Why does this happen? Is it the money, the engineering that's so much better or what?

some people just get the regulations right

#

whenever there's a change in the rules or whatnot there's bound to be one team that understands them more than the others

A large part is directly or indirectly because of money. @dreamy sun

#

Not sure if that helps.

teams usually get engineers off the former dominant team and use their knowledge of the former dominant team's car on their own car which combined with new regulations creates a rocket
put it in the right hands (verstappen, hamilton, schumacher) and thats it

You can’t forget the Williams dominance from 1992-1997! The FW14B and FW15C are perfectionst F1 cars!

Money. Once a team spends enough money and the regs don’t change for a long time teams can just keep developing on the car that works and others can’t keep up with the money they spend

Every time there's a new regulation change like 2022
One team gets it right and the other teams are tripping over each other

#

And everyone is trying to catch up but by the time they do there is usually a new regulation change or the team that was leading found a loophole and got even further away

#

Like mercades dominace
They figured out how the hybrid engines work while redbull and Ferrari were stepping over one another then they were catching up (2018-2019) but then in 2020 mercades found a loophole (DAS system) then got away even further then in 2021 redbull had caught up

another reason is preference(added to all these), that's visible today in mainly one team(sorry to any one who supports that team) where the car is designed around one driver that's why though they drive for the same team, two drivers have different standings (sometimes they don't even come close) other times its lack of skill that year

And I think mercades used to?
