#The Q2 tyre rule?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
The top 10 drivers who qualified in Q2 had to start the race with the same compound of tyres they qualified with
The drivers who made it into Q3 had to start the race with the same set of tyres they set their fastest lap on in Q2
basically a driver could set a time in Q2 with mediums (top teams did this), and he would start the race with the same medium tyres, to have a better strategy in the race
Cool, when did this happen (year)?
Well it was for Q3 from 2011
And then changed to Q2
The tyre rule was scrapped for the 2022 season
Hmm I mean it could make it for an interesting quali and strategy options I guess, would have to rewatch the past races to judge this
It made a difference at Abu Dhabi 2021 for example
Lewis on the mediums, max on the softs
Lewis managed to pull a gap to max
Understandable
