Roll-cages aren't the safest when the driver isn't wearing a helmet, but surely if the Europeans accept it, so should we.

and even with the 911's half-cage, seats can still fail and you can still make contact with the cage in a heavy rear impact

The thing is that Europe understands that cars like the GT3 are specialized. Not everyone is going to buy one, and those that do fully understand what they are getting into.

That's sort of the problem American automotive legislation has. It assumes that every car is going to be driven by the average person. What applies for the new Toyota Camry must apply for the new 911, and so forth.

It's good that they're being protective, but sometimes it's excessive.

A point that baffles me is the one I mentioned in regard to the 911 GT3 Clubsport: Only a handful of people want these sorts of classics. For every classic is at least a thousand compliant cars.

If that's the case, why base your rules on the idea that suddenly everyone is going to have a car like that?

There is no 'universal' car. They are interdisciplinary, built for all different purposes and lifestyles. Even a child can point out those differences by name.

As an organization on a level that great, you should at least be able to understand that.

My grandad used to own a 912 which when he passed away he gave it to my uncle who then traded it for 996 Carrera S. That's the only two Porsche in my family. It happened like 10 to 12 years ago. Funny enough we were able to track down the car and found that it's in Portugal now
