It's the VW syncro,
under the then VW ceo Ferdinand Piech VW made 3 W12 concepts mainly to demonstrate that w12 engines were definitely capable and was a viable alternative to the v12 config.
This was the first Iteration and nardo i believe was the final iteration.
But yeah they are basically the same cars but at different stages of development.

In 2002 VW nardo averaged like 200mph over the course of 24hrs at the nardo ring in Italy, and it stills holds most of its speed and endurance records to this day.

Chaparral WJ 1970 Race Car, the car that got banned for being too stupidly weird and also fast

It raced in Can-Am, and had a pretty respectable record that was overshadowed by mechanical problems - McLaren argued against the 2J features, such the Vacuum, powered by a separate snowmobile engine that sucked air underneath the car, making it stuck to the ground - one of the first sights of a ground effect car. It never saw a CanAm win, but what it won was all the other teams protesting against Chaparral because the 2J was too stupidly engineered.
